As you turn it, ur holding it open slightly, and when u need to adjust ur hand back to turn it again, u close it obviously bc u need to adjust ur hand lol
I love how you approach this literally from the point of knowing nothing about the curling iron for people who are brand new to the idea of styling. Really awesome and I'm sure you've made thousands and thousands of people more confident in working with their hair.
I’ve seen a lot of tutorials, but still couldn’t get the hang of it, until I saw you do it, and then it clicked😮 It makes me so happy! 😊 Thank you so much !!
I'm just checking in. End of 2019. 61 years old and bought my first curling iron. Been using it but figured I should check to see if I should be going backward with all sections of hair because I did a poor job the last time. LOL Thank you for this!
I just had to do this for my girlfriend because she was crying so much that she couldn't do it hahaha I figured out a 'cheat' way. Basically clamp the end and roll it back in towards your head. Makes it a bit simpler. Then you can build up to the turn and switch :)
Vaalid the hair on the ends is older and weaker so it shouldn't get more heat than the healthier parts which are usually higher up closer to the scalp. I'm sure that's why you are supposed to start mid way and twist
Do not be intimidated by a curling iron. I know absolutely nobody within my friend group that knows how to use one. They think it's too difficult. Everyone knows how to use a curling wand for some reason. If you don't understand what she means by turning the iron, you basically just twist it in the way you want the hair to curl. When you are twisting, open the clamp slightly so the hair can slide around the iron. Make sure your ends are under the clamp so they won't be straight and don't leave them in for too long. To prevent the dent or crease in your hair that is caused by the clamp, the moment you clamp down on the hair, start twisting to the clamp doesn't dent the hair. It won't dent after you start curling because it's purpose is to keep the hair in place on the heat source. Remember, this takes practice so if you are an absolute beginner, try the technique without the heat on. A curling iron makes more structured curls compared to the wand so it's your choice. In my opinion, I think the iron is better since you can create different looks with them from very glam and done up to more beachy and the plus is that you don't really have to touch the iron AT ALL since the clamp does that for you.
Instead of letting the hair go through the gap in the clamp when you switch hands, you're unintentionally clamping down on the hair, making weird crimps in your hair, trust me, just try it loads of time and you'll get it, it took me a while!
I want to thank you. I’m having a 20 person wedding with some of my family and my fiancée’s family and so I will be doin my hair and makeup and I just want to say that I love LOVE your video! I have never been able to curl my hair since I cut it short and I just did a test curl and it worked! I am hoping to curl my whole head before work one day and just see how it turns out. I want to thank you for your video and say that you are a life saver! I have 3 weeks left!
Omg I just saw you video a f now I’m curly my hair fast . I came to learn a d hunny that was real fast .. OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH . I have watched over 20 videos a d after watching your for 10 minutes I have a head full of curls
this worked so well. I have layers in my hair and i was never able to curl it correctly, so now i am so happy that i found something that has helped me. I was so stressed because i thought i wouldnt be able to do anything fancy with my hair. i am so greatful that you made this video, thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!!!! I've tried and failed many times to learn but your explanation was just what I needed for how to clamp and unclamp the hair. Now I can do it myself for my engagement shoot!
OMG thank you so much! I have never been able to curl my hair and am finally on my way to having it look pretty decent thanks to you! This was a perfect intro for struggling beginners like me :)
literally watched soooo many curling tong videos and this is the only one that makes sense!!!!! thank you so much for describing how to hold it to curl the OTHER side of your head I ALWAYS struggled there!!!
I am glad I found this video! I always curl my hair with a flat iron but recently started using a regular curling iron and I gave up because one side was so much easier to do than the other. I could not figure out why or what I was doing wrong to the other side. Switching fingers makes so much sense. This was very helpful thank you so much!
PLEASE READ VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!! GOOD INFO!! I would recommend this technique just not for first-timers. Me and my bsf wanted to curl our hair randomly, but we realized that we didn't know how! So we went to TH-cam for help. We had to watch not ONE not TWO not THREE but FOUR videos to find one that actually was helpful; and that was this one. This technique is a little complicated and we ended up with some very fried and dry pieces, so we decided to use a technique given to us by someone who curls their hair close to every day. For this we started by pulling the iron through the entire strand and then curling upwards. Once we were at the top you release the curl in a spiral/twist motion. The ringlets are quite tight, but we liked that the best, because then we were able to just separate the curl, to get a couple curls in one! Definitely recommend for beginners like us! 💁♀️💖
I find this 7 y/o video to be very helpful. I think she was too the point, not that she needs anyone telling her about her video- it's majorly old. I also understand when she says open and close while she's turning because you don't want to pull your hair while you do this- it also allows for even heat to be distributed through the strand you're using. Also crazy helpful that I by chance bought the same type of curling iron! I have really short hair, got it cut the other day. Trying to replicate Shirley Temple curls.. wish me luck! Thanks for the video Drysdelle! ♥
LMAO at me for thinking that I would be able to curl my hair after watching a video. I was essentially just flat ironing it with a flip at the end. Fml.
GAAAH! I give up, its actually impossible for those who have frizzy, greasy but dry hair all in one... I wasn't made to be a girl... I have a BaByliss curling wand too, GRR!
2021 anyone still watching? I guess only me😂 Wow! Thanks for making curling so easy. I do makeup dye hair and other stuff, but never thought I could ever curl a hair in my life. Just watched you do this give me so much idea how to, even though is not as good as yours but better than I ever tried 🙌🏽
You are awesome! My hairdresser sent your video to me. This is how she curls my hair. After watching your video I CAN DO IT!!!!!! Love it. Thank you so very much!!
I've watched so many videos since I only know how to use a wand and decided to use a clamp for the first time. This video has helped me the most!!! Thank you

Hi--excellent video. I've never used a curling iron--just hot rollers. When you say "close turn switch" are you actually opening the barrel & if so, why is that necessary? Can't you just roll up the hair keeping the barrel closed? Thank you so much, Julie
Omg! This is the best hair curling video that I have ever seen 😍 It's so simple and very informative. So thank you so much ❤️ I'll surely be able to do it now... Hopefully 🤞 xx
before i watched your video my hair would get all those crimps, but this video finally helped me get it right!! took a while to get it right tho. but it was a better explanation than all the other videos. its all about which side of your hair you are doing and which way you turn the iron
Sooo, I gotta say how thankful I am for this tutorial and how sad that it took me til I'm almost 30 to finally learn how to use a curling iron. You saved my day.
LpsMeghan Me too i just got it yesterday but i need heat protectant before i do it. My hair is slick straight and i wanted to do something so it isnt boring

Thank you , thank you. I've really struggled with using my iron, the girls I've watched make it look quick and easy but I couldn't workout how they were doing it without getting tangled. Showing us in slow motion really helped. Thank you again 😄
bought my first curling iron thinking this was a simple process....um no...without your video I would've given up!! I was just grabbing hair and rolling it up with out slightly unclamping and turning....thank you
I don't really understand how you open and close the clamp while twirling it

you're turning the curling iron in the wrong direction, so the hair gets stuck over the clamp leaving a weird crimp thing

Hi--excellent video. I've never used a curling iron--just hot rollers. When you say "close turn switch" are you actually opening the barrel & if so, why is that necessary? Can't you just roll up the hair keeping the barrel closed? Thank you so much, Julie
I think you open the clamp on the barrel slightly and it's so you don't pull at your hair as you move it down the stand you're curling!
Thanks-makes sense.

i love watching 5+ year old hair tutorials cause 9/10 they work better than the new ones
