    Thank you for talking about vets!! I hate how no one realizes that hamsters might need medical care from an exotic vet and it's not optional. I spent $570 taking my sick hammy to the vet recently. She went more than 6 times in one month. I'm only 15 so I'm very thankful my mom allows me to spend my money at the vet, on top of that she usually helps out when my bills go into the couple hundreds. I'm very use to saving up money for my small pets because I rescue them sick/injured.

      I know! One time, when I was at petsmart, this couple was going to get a hamster. I told them that they should get a 40 gallon tank, or a 80 x 50 cm bin, because they are both 450 sq. Inches or over. They shrugged it off. Then, they were looking at the flying saucers. I told them tho get the medium size for a dwarf or a large for a Syrian. The took the medium. For a syrian. I hate this.

    I had to take my hamster to the vet earlier in the year, I was very glad that my parents were definitely okay with getting her treatment, as she was obviously suffering, if was wettail, she didn’t just get it right away, we already had her for months. By the time I realized though it was to late, we got her to the vet and got medicine but she died the next morning. I was still very glad to see that my parents were completely okay with getting my baby to the vet, as I am completely financially reliant on them

    My dwarf has a decent 40 gallon snake tank he's been relatively comfortable in for almost a year, though sometimes he does paw at the walls and has been getting lazier lately. The last time we went pet supply shopping I looked at tanks and mom kept asking if I wanted a bigger one, but they were too expensive at the time (aka i felt bad). My birthday is coming up next week, so I'll ask about upgrading then instead of going to our special restaurant if we can't do both.

    • @phrog1582

    Thankfully, I asked my parents, they would be perfectly happy with paying for a emergency vet visit, as they too would care for the well-being and health of a hamster. They said they would prefer if I would pay for it by myself, but if it was absolutely needed (such as wet tail, broken bones, extreme weight loss) they would have no problem with throwing them into a carrier and driving to the vet. That’s definitely something you should ask your parents if your a teen wanting a hamster. 🐹

    10:40 yikes yeah this has happend to me...
    the story goes like this... so my school nurse (yes I know kinda weird) was giving away a hamster as a class pet or in some cases, just a singular childs pet. So my last hamster had just recently passed away and I was feeling sort of down. I decided to talk to my parents and ask if I could take the hamster home. (if you're wondering SHE was a ginger colored serian hamster) So my parents said yes to taking the hamster so the next day at the end of school the nurse came to my house, dropped off the animal, told us a little bit about her and then left. I was much younger so I didn't really know how to properly take care of her so after about 6 months she became... ill?? The reason I am questioning this is because it wasn't something that seemed like sickness. Basically... we believed that she had very VERY severe constipation... it's awkward and slightly gross to talk about but I would like answers to this. Anyway... she had... IT... and basically a very large strand of um, fecal matter, was litaraly stuck... it just hung there. I know it's awful and gross and I'm so sorry if I've just caused someone to vomit but like I said. I WANT ANSWERS. Later that week my beloved pet died and I could tell it was painful. The heartbreak set in and as a THIRD GRADER... everything just SUCKED. I'd like to know if I caused this and I would also want to know what it was, how I could've prevented it and a whole lot more. Please Erin I know this video is a bit older and you might not be keeping up with it but please answer. Anything helps.

    what do you recommend for a mouse that won't run on anything except a mesh wheel? i've tried comfort wheels, silent spinners, diy wheels, flying saucers, etc. he's only willing to use a mesh one. he has several running items available to him at all times and refuses them all

    • @SomethingAnimal
      @SomethingAnimal  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From what I know mesh wheels are fine for mice, it's hamsters that have problems because their feet are a little more delicate than mouse feet. I would suggest asking on a mouse forum to be sure though :)

    Thanks to your Viovet vlog, I completely changed up my hamsters' diets, and they love it. I got them all kinds of seeds from Rodipet and I'm now giving them fresh fruit/veg every other day because there just doesn't seem to be commercial pet food out there with a decent amount of fibre. As for protein, I add dried mealworms to the mix and I also put dried crickets in their digging area. You weren't kidding when you said that nutrition is SO difficult to get right with these little guys. Only 2/5 of my Robos have had consistent weights in the last few months, so I'm hoping this new diet will change things.

    I recently got a detolf. However i had my hamster in a bin cage. It was the largest i could find which was about 80x50 cm. What can someone do if they cannot build a cage or buy a detolf?

    When i got my hamster a year ago i got a small cage without a sand bath and a very bad wheel ( 56cm x 45 cm ). after a month or 2 I started doing my research and upgraded her my cage is 95 cm x 50cm (and 50cm in height) with a sandbath and a large wheel . She seems to really like to dig and run around in her cage however she doesn't seem to be interesed in most toys, she only likes the wooden sticks or food chewtoys. Any tips for her toys?

      you can but its not recommended and you have to clean it up quite often because of the odour and it could create bacteria and fungi

    hey i have a tank cage and and it's made of glass and has a plastic black lid however I'm very scared to put my hamster in it because the lid can very easily be lifted off how can I attach the lid securely to the glass tank? The lid very simply goes on top of the tank and is not fixed

    Hey I've got a question about picky eaters. My hammy isn't eating all his muesli, I'm using the pets at home muesli rn. He'll leave the yellow cornflake looking ones and the brown circles (soz don't know what they are) but he'll eat the others. Should I switch him to a different feed or is this okay?

    My apartment had 2 get sprayed for bed bugs. I don't have bed bugs but the guy upstairs did. So I had to be out here for one hour. My four robos I bought four 10 gal tank & put them in my car during that time. Now all four of them are scared to death of me & it's been about 3 weeks now since they sprayed. Looking back I could have just put their cages in the hallway but I didn't know what to do. It took me hours to clean everything & now I have four animals who will only come out when I'm asleep. If I come out in the night they will all run & hide till I go away. I'm very sad

    Should i put his cage next to a window? Or would that be too bright for the hamster? My room (where the hamster is gonna stay) doesn’t really get allot of sunlight

    • @a_Aurora_a
      @a_Aurora_a 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, dont put your hamster in direct sunlight, maybe near it would be fine but not right next to or into it, if you do your hamster might go into heat stoke, because remember, they are living there so it heats up alot in sunlight AND they have a fur coat (Some bigger then others) so they will get very hot if you do that
