      I'd like to venture one more clarifying question, if you don't mind. You mentioned that you can p-lock program changes in the source menu. So, if I'm not mistaken, this should mean that you can change presets on your preset-enabled synthesizers on a per-step basis. Is that the case here?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +HalutioN I think you are correct. This should be doable. I have not tested it enough and as with midi there can always be unexpected kinks, but it seems to work

    Intro jam was sick AF.
    Great video. I'm sold.
    Question: If I had my trusty 5 channel Midi thru box hooked up to the midi out of the DT, I could use the midi out thru the 5 to sequence 5 external syntsh right? BUT.. could I then also use the Thru on the DT to sequence a 6th device? Does that make sense?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Matt Greer Music the tru only sends from input, so it does not send midi from the sequencer (as of now, might be changed, I have pointed this out to Elektron) but I use a thru box as you say

    hey hello, i was interested in the digitakt but i got some compelling questions. Can you use the digitakt to trigger e.g. the korg prologue to play a pattern (melody, bassline etc.). Also, how do you assign your external synthesizers to a certain midi track in the digitakt? And lastly, is it possible to use e.g. the prologue or another synth with keys to trigger the sounds on the digitakt?
    Thank you and kind regards!

    Hi Bo, thanks for your amazing reviews! Just a simple question: can you give a name to the CC value on the Digitakt? (even a short one would help, three digits I guess) ...When you start having 8 CC's x 8 tracks it might be handy ; ) Thanks!

    Thanks as always for your great tutorials, Bo. I'm learning a bit about the Digitakt out of curiosity. How do the patterns work, with the 8 monophonic sampler tracks? Does a single pattern consist of the 8 MIDI channels / tracks, as well as the 8 sampler sounds? So, in essence, it's a 9-part sequencer... let's assume your 8 sampler tracks are all drum/percussion sounds. So, you have those 8 tracks as "a drum track", and then MIDI A could be a bassline, MIDI B, chords, MIDI C a lead melody... etc? Thanks for clarifying!

  • @garvinkelly

    Thanks for the video! I plan to control my monolouge with the midi and I'm wondering if the patch knob is controllable/ saveable with Digitakt? If I use a certain patch on the mono for a certain pattern on the digi, will it be saved/loaded by the digi when I load a project? this would be great for faster transitions in live shows

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Garvin Kelly hm, I am not sure since I dont know much about the Mono. My guess is that Monologue responds to program change data to switch patches. So therefor you should be able to set up a program change value in the track on the Digi corresponding to the patch on the Mini.

    I was wondering how one could add this to another hardware sequencer such as the Yamaha RS7000 and if it would occupy one audio track of the 16 available in it? Also if the 8 MIDI channels on the Digitakt are added to the RS7000's 32 channels or subtracted? Thanks.

    Yours are the best tutorials I've seen on the Digitakt, thank you so much for this. Is it possible to use the Digitakt for MIDI sequencing via USB MIDI or does it have to be 5-pin MIDI? I own the Moog Grandmother, DFAM, and Mother 32 and use the mother 32 the least out of the three of them. With that being said, it does produce the best sounds though. I’m always taken by surprise of the warmth it has, especially with a little reverb on it. So glade I purchased it. I didn’t mind spending the extra money in comparison to the Behringer Crave. I’m a huge fan of Behringer btw. I have a Deepmind 12, and can’t wait for the future releases of there other clones. Mainly the OBXA and other’s alike. Anyways I’m starting to ramble. Point is, the M32 is well worth it. I hope in the two years after your commitment that you eventually picked one up.

    Idea: MIDI ch 16 sends from Digitakt to circuit to control some esoteric stuff about the session, like the left:right ratio on the delay, or the master filter q/rez. even to have a controlled, automated fade in or out of a synth part.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is a very cool idea mate! Very cool indeed. I did not think of it at all but having this much control from the Digitakt would surely bring the Circuit to another level. I will definitely add this to the list of ideas I need to try out

    If you have p locks on the filter and then have an LFO also effecting the filter does it lead to some weird interplay?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that should be the case. LFO modulates based on the cut off position/value, so naturally any change to that cut of position or value should change the sound when the LFO interacts.

    Question about audio routing of the hardware that Digitakt controls via the MIDI tracks. Can I route the audio out of my 2 synths into the audio inputs of Digitakt so that I can monitor them directly through the Digitakt headphones output without using an audio interface or mixer?

    I'm wondering about buying a Digitakt. Is it possible to record automation on the digitakt that you play on your synth (by turning knobs, I mean)? Or is it quite awkward? I mean, do you have to set up every parameter in the digitakt individually? For the sake of immediacy and the fun of improvisation, I don't really want to have to micro-edit every step of a sequence.

    Hi from the Netherlands, when you connect a midi keyboard (midi in) DT on auto channel you can play and record directly the sequence. I dont' understand why Aftertouch, Mod wheel Pitchband can't be used by keyboard, but only with the 4 knobs. Is that the big difference with the Octatrack ?

    • @BoBeats

      I don't think the sequencer can record those things... I think you have to program it manually. But I am not sure.

    Mr Bo, I'm having a midi issue I'm hoping you can help me with. I've got track 9 (midi track A) set to channel 1; midi out to midi in of my minitaur; but this weird thing is happening that when I'm not working on track 9, when I press the trigger buttons (any of them, 1-16) a signal is going to the minitaur and it makes a noise. so i could be previewing a kick sound on track 1 but the minitaur will also get triggered, even though I'm pretty sure the minitaur itself is set to midi channel 1. the same thing happened when i had a reface cs connected. i went into settings and set channel to off for tracks 1-8 but that didn't change anything; in ports output is set to track channel. i'm running OS 1.02. any ideas what's happening?

      +Fahad Ashraf my guess is that the Minitaur recieves midi on some other channel as wellZ autochannel or say channel 16 where Digitakt sends and receives some control messages... other than that I really cant say

  • @murahachibu
    @murahachibu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great reference. The thing that I was having problems with is that the midi notes on what I was trying to sequence are for some reason two octaves higher on the Digitakt.
    I am also having no luck with figuring out how to play the external device and have that be sequenced. I have heard that you need to use autochannel to do that but I haven't been able to figure that out yet.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The keyboard issue: you go into settings, midi settings, channels, look up auto channel setting and set it to say channel 10. Then you switch your midi keyboard to midi channel 10. Then you should be able to play any selected channel and play it.

    Hey @BoBeats Been a long time fan! I wanted to know if it's possible to program the patterns on the digitakt to control my tr8s. That way I get the sounds I want on the tr8s without having to program both digitakt and tr8s. I'm new to CC control and that is giving me trouble. Thanks so much.

    Can you please tell me what are my actions if I wish Digitakt to control Digitone and my modular system via midi splitter? I mean is there any way to route audio from each device to Digitakt w/o using an external mixer? Or simply send a mono signal from Digitone and modular into the two input channels of the Digitakt? Many thanks in advance! 🙏

    I have set up the Digitakt to change the sounds on my synth through Program Change. There are 5 banks of 128 sounds. How do I limit a control knob to 5 banks? It tries to do 128 banks which then breaks the MIDI somehow.

    Hey Bo, do you have any insight on how to get the Digitakt sequencer controlling the Blofeld? I've got them on the same channel, and the Blofeld light blinks when I hit the Digitakt's chromatic keyboard, but there is no sound. I'm completely befuddled. I watched your video, but didn't come away with an answer to my particular problem.

    I want to send the digitakt sequencer to korg ms 20 mini on channel 1, but the weird thing is that, and I could not figured out yet, digitakt is sending midi signal to another 2 instruments at same time, on the same channel 1. All 3 instruments are connected through a midi splitter out from the digitakt. Why do I cannot split the instruments on different channels (why all instruments receive signal on channel 1)?

      Jared Rodgers hey! You press the record button once. Now you should see steps light upp. Hold a step, tweak any knob. If value backgrounds changes color (white I think) the value is now program changed!

    nice video's, makes me think of replacing my MPC 1000 as studio brain. which brings me to my question. I like the MPC but it has to stop playing when you want to set things up or record which is a bit of a downer when making beats or jamming.
    Do you think the Digitakt will make a good modern replacement for a MPC 1000 in a small studio/ live set?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +jip Homburg I have little experience with MPCs so its hard for me to say. I think you need to adopt the Elektron workflow in order to truly enjoy the Digitakt. And I am sure you will miss some of the sampling options on the Digi... it doesnt slice samples for example

      @jiphomburg9818 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply.
      i've been looking at your video's and tutorials and the workflow on the Digitakt looks more hands on then the MPC. The fact that it also has 8 channels i can sequence my other synths with makes it very interesting for me since I mainly use the MPC for sequencing.

  • @findjonmoses
    @findjonmoses 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey BoBeats, loving the Digitakt got mine a few days ago and its great. I noticed you have a Korg Minilogue like me and I have been trying to understand why I cant get the midi CC of Digitakt to control the filter cutoff. I have read page 57 of the minilogue manual which provides the midi mapping as CC43 but when I set all the correct things in the Digitakt it doesn't work for me.
    I have managed to control env decay and I can sequence sounds on my Korg using the Digitakt but no dice controlling the korg filter. I wondered if you have the same settings?

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jonathan Mosley i have gotten the filter to work but yes, it was behaving a little odd at times. Try setting the CC parameter first THEN enabling the CC controller (under filt page). This helped me.

    • @findjonmoses
      @findjonmoses 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah cool I will give this a go. I did notice the video cut when you mentioned you were going to setup the filter so wondered if you also had trouble. I couldn't tell if its an issue with the Digitakt or the Korg, but if I remember correct I had no problems doing the same with the Octatrack, so maybe its just Digitakt teething problems. Thanks very much for the help :)

    • @BoBeats
