Grant Writing for Artists

Hey there! In today's video we are talking about grant writing for artists!
We'll cover four main tips that we have for you as an artist and we'll round it out with some tips from our student, Tsēmā, who's a rockin' artist and grant writing unicorn! 🦄

1️⃣ Defining a Project Prospectus
It's important to have a 1 pager overview on:
🔶 What the project is
🔶 The problem that it solves
🔶 Who you serve
🔶 What it's going to cost
🔶 How you are going to do it
🔶 Why it matters
When you visit with a potential funder or build partnership support, your 1-pager will be a clear and concise tool to help you communicate your objectives.
2️⃣ Think about what you want to get funded as a project not a program
A project has a clear beginning, middle and end. While a program is ongoing (operations, etc.). Funders usually want a project so that they can clearly know how their funding will have an impact in a designated time period.
3️⃣ Be clear on WHY the work matters
Infusing why the work matters in your grant applications will make a huge difference in how the funders read and remember your application!
4️⃣ Be intentional
When you step back and think about what you want funded, and then select the 2-5 grants that you want to pursue in the next 12-18 months, you will be much more successful.
