this show left me speechless. i was expecting cool fantastical magic, the trailer and first episodes made me believe that it would take that path but boy was i wrong.

@@andjelabozovic7365 good kind of speechless. I didn't know a lot about the show before watching it, so it was almost as if i went in blind. I wasn't expecting the story telling to be like that, especially it being a kdrama.
@@nicegud207 you could watch it yourself if you haven't, it's just that i did not know a lot about the show befote watching it so naturally i got shocked when they pulled out dark depressing themes here and there. I already had a hint of the dark themes from the trailer but i wasnt expecting it to go even darker honestly. Got me hoping for real REAL magic too ngl

This show was truly one of the best things I've ever seen, unexpected, original, endearing and the music made it all even more special. I didn't know there was going to be so many deep reflections on life, adulthood and not losing the magic of childhood. Absolutely incredible!
Same! I absolutely loved it & loved that it had some very important messages... yes it was great entertainment, but there was something to learn from it too.
I learnt things from the show and felt like they can understand the stuff lots of us go through.

This show hurts a lot at the last 2 episodes. I was hurt as if I was there with them. It was hard to lose someone who understands you especially when you need them. The realization that he also needs help and he needs someone who understands him made me tear up:
Here's my own analysis of the ending: The ending was purposely done so the viewers will not focus on the magic element, but rather the journey and growth of the main leads. It is also a subtle way for us to also see society issues, especially for children such as issue of the current way most adult see of education and the show also subtly tackles on depression. I also think it tackles how most adults treat children, especially the abusive employer who takes advantage of children with problems, the parents of Il Deung, and the teacher. As for the magic element, I think that in this story, the magic that Min Hyuk do to Ah Yi when helping her was real magic but is only limited when helping her and even then is still limited to certain extent. I guess his real magic only activates when he helps someone to make them truly smile so that's why when he helped Ah Yi solved her money problems, he failed (only prop money was generated) because that would not make her truly be happy, the same is also true when he helped Ah Yi with the abusive employer but I think it was partly activated when she checks after where was the boss that's why she didn't see him. The hint was the butterfly. The nail in the coffin was the police near the end asked Ah Yi if she was in the amusement park because they were flabbergasted that they saw flash of lights on that day, and that day was the day Ah Yi was shown the fireworks when she was transported to the Ferris Wheel. The butterfly (either the butterfly itself or the necklace) was always present when real magic was activated. It can also be a symbolism of their state of mind, especially Min Hyuk, but both Ah Yi and Il Deung were still not yet depressed. I think the butterfly was there to help Min Hyuk help children with problems that are caused by problematic adults. Anyways, at first I was disappointed that it was a bit of a cliffhanger (not knowing what happens to Il Deung after he dropped out of school and Min Hyuk after he disappeared), but it made me ponder about society issues especially on how we tackle education so I really liked it. I also think this is a clever way for them tot have season 2 if the show does very well lol
Just in case you're curious, though the cliffhanger for Min Hyuk is the same in the webtoon, we see in the last chapter than Il Deung attends the same university as Ah Yi.

Yes! Indeed, this not totally teach us to believe in magic literally but be responsible with our dying dreams and losing our true identity. “You should do whatever it is you want to do just as much as the things you don’t want to do.” -magician. From the point also of magician, “I just need someone who can tell me that no matter what others say, it’s not important, and someone who believes me. That’s all I need", that's a hint also for believing in your own no matter what other people think of you and focus on those who believe, that's the true definition of success that's why he keep on asking "Do you believe in magic" and if anyone believes, that's how his magic activates.
Ji chang Wook is the most versatile actor I have ever seen. He can make me cry, and laugh. I live in America, and I am hooked on Korean dramas. There is good lessons to learn in every one of them. For the most part they are clean to watch, great actors and actresses and you can learn so much about Korean people. They respect their elders and are taught manners. The men seem to really know how to treat women. I love my country but we could learn a lot from these wonderful south Korean people.
I am 71 years old and I still believe in the magic shown in the series the sound of magic. Congratulation to all people involved in the production of such masterpiece. Mr JCwook I could see your soul at your performance. Magnificent.

I absolutely loved the show. I was afraid I would not like it due to it being a musical but I truly loved the songs that were not too present, just right. There was a needed dose of magic and a good reflection on the pressure of societal norms as well as the passage to adulthood. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Somehow I missed that it was going to be a musical. I didn't watch the trailers or clips. I just saw the title on Netflix and decided to watch it after finishing another drama that I had vested my time in. This was a short drama and it looked interesting. Actually, I found it far more than interesting. Like so many other viewers, I had questions for later. But I'm okay with it. I am blessed with an awesome imagination and will find my own ending. BUT... I want to know what was the deal with both the Magician and the Smart Boy and the scars on their shoulder and back. We kept getting glimpses of that, but if there was an answer, I missed it. Still, I enjoyed it all.
@@hunnybee971 im not sure but I think the boys is from his constant anxiety whenever he's studying cos he's stressed and has to do well cos of the pressure and the magicians might be from when he tried to suicide but idk I feel like the magician one might not be true its just my opinion

@@bell-xk5dd It was but she only kept coming there to agitate Ri-eul with no reason, even shaking Bella around the first time, I also feel bad no one found out how Bella died other than Ri-eul, Ha-na just disappeared and I'm kinda hopeful she was arrested for wire tapping.

My worst fear is getting old, magic means so much to me and keeps me distracted from knowing I’ll get older one day. I’ve always believed in magic and always will this show brought me closer to that feeling and I am forever grateful for magic.

The post credit scene doesn't really continues the story, but gave me a feeling that it could have season 2.
Great show, it has exceeded my expectations. The only loose end I didn't get (I didn't read the webtoon) is that rash in the boys's neck. What did that mean, after all?
Ji Chang Wook was charming as ever, the girl also sings so beautifully, the songs are enchanting...

I really liked it, as an middleaged adult : working, paying your bills and being programmed/brainwashed by parents, teachers and society you risk to forget the miracles in live. You lose your connection with your heart ( which is endless) , your inner child and with spirit and live in your mind ( which you only have to use to think). The first 2 songs in the movie made me cry because it felt so sad that with growing up and living up to expectations of others instead of living your own life according to what makes you happy. It is so sad and painful when you lose the connection with your innerchild, the purity and joy. I think people should try to cherish that connection their entire life so even at the age of 80 you still have that joyful child inside that believes in magic....🦋💖
I wasn't overly pleased with the show the first time around. My second time watching, it was a light bulb moment and everything clicked. I've watched it five times now and every time I fall deeper into its magic. Wonderful program.
This series was really needed at this time.The beauty and innocence of magic stayed present The whole series. I thought it was really lovely to see the friendships grow,and especially with the magician and the teen,it wasn't cringy or creepy,he held his position as someone to look up to,which can be devastating if it turned sexual. Very happy and upbeat visual feast for all of us that DO BELIEVE IN MAGIC.Xx
I felt a little bit of sadness when JCW is nowhere to find at the final episode but that sadness was taken away when I saw the last theater performance of the over-all casts and saw JCW there singing. Atleast that way made me to like SOM even more
Well done to the South Koreans. Cinematography, writing of script and actors/singers, even Bella the magicians beautiful bird who he adored. There’s a scene were I was sobbing when Bella was hurt by a nasty schoolgirl. I loved everything about this show. Well done to everyone involved.

I recommand reading webtoon annarasumanara too, if you were free. The original manhwa behind this adaptation. ❤ Art style is unique and gothic.

In my opinion for what i get, living the dream not that bad in order to continue living in life but if u really a believer …& don’t push yourself out of limits u will lose urself whatever it’s right or wrong eventually u will get hurt

Absolutely loved it. I went through a roller coaster of emotions. It was beautiful, magical and yet heartbreaking. The cinematography was A+. Ji Chang Wook as Ri-ul was amazing. He did a great job and so did the other actors. Overall I am happy with the adaptation. A must watch show.
I really enjoyed this series. There are definitely lessons to be learned and lots to think about, especially about the pressures that are bestowed upon us. Overall it was a very well made series. The ending was disappointing, but only because it felt like a cliffhanger, leaving you wondering what happened to the Magician and the male student. Thumbs up for me!
In the original comic version it was Christmas Eve in the last episode. Before Ah Yi began working Ill Deung called her and ask her out for dinner. A kid next to him made fun of Ill Deung's blushing smile but dropped his candy. Ill Deung picks it up and return it to the kid while performing magic. The amazed kid asked if he is a magician. Ill Deung chuckle and said "no... I'm just a college student." Both Ah Yi and Ill Deung looked up at the snowing sky missing Ryu the magician. The ending remains the same.
However, the secret ending showed the magic mailbox opening by itself. Inside Ah Yi's letters have vanished and instead was replaced with Ryu's signature invitation card.
I was really salty when Netflix didn't use the secret magic mailbox ending. 😤

The show was brilliant, so different from the majority of k-dramas I've watched so far, original, interesting and meaningful. Although I have to admit I was reluctant to watch it at first,I'm so glad I did. My beloved actor Ji Chang Wook proved his super talent once more,as well as the rest of the cast. All in all, this show was the pleasant surprise of the year!

The show was the best show I've ever seen. It had so many unexpected twists and turns that you don't know what's going to happen next. It also had deep reflections on growing up and becoming an adult and loosing the belief in magic as well as the magic of being a child during childhood. The songs and the music were enjoyable to listen that it made me want to listen to them all day. I am wishing for a second series.

I came in looking for a feel good drama but i got a masterpiece instead definitely one of my favorite kdramas out there
something i really liked in the show was the friendship of the magician and ah yi. ive seen videos where people wished they got together but i personally dont agree with that and saw them more as platonic soulmates.
This show was AMAZING and obvs ji changwook never disappoints
a combination of willy wonka and peter pan....it was extremely well done and i really enjoyed the highschool musical aspect of the show. beautiful voices.......allowed me to escape for a time and that was well needed and appreciated in these times

The show is visual magic & I love every second of it! I am a little disappointing that I spoiled the show for myself, after reading the Webtoon graphic novel version first. It is a beautiful read, that I had to finish in one sitting.
When I was watching this kdrama I was confused on why he always said his magic was real when everything he did was a trick. But then after watching it more and witnessing the events between the magician and Ahyi, I figured out that the magic he had was to make people feel better and happy. All the times he showed Ahyi magical things was the magic that was real.

I am a new fan of Ji Chang Wook. This series is the first thing I've seen him in and now I'm hooked on his talent to make me feel love. It lead me to other films he's been in such as Lovestruck in the city. Both of these films made me want to hold him until he felt better. I really wanted to take away all of his pain. What Talent this man has. Singing voice is also very soothing. He could sing me to sleep for sure. Certainly I hope there is a season II for this series. I would love to see Ri-eul and Ah-Yi get together despite their age difference. The way he looks at her with so much compassion and genuine love. I think I'm jealous.
I really enjoyed this drama. It was very well written and acted and the songs and singing enhanced the whole production. I would have happily watched a few more episodes.
I loved this series especially bc Ji Chang Wook was casted (especially since he looks like Howl from Howl's moving castle lol). The music from this series slaps so hard tho. Even if I'm not Korean, I get LSS from the soundtracks alone and their visuals were also great!

This show was Amazing yet short i really loved it the plot , characters EVERYTHING was on point
I personally think he really had magic and that in the end when he disappears he actually just got sent to a safer place, where people can't find him, at least for now...
This thought also tells me that, maybe.. the magician will come back someday to see how his successor is doing but... idk what comes after the but, I can't exactly put my finger on it yet
This really makes me want to believe that there is gonna be a season 2 but we don't know yet. Guess we will have to wait and see
i loved it but i got really confused at the end as to whether the magic is real or not. When he made the boss disappear it turned out he had pushed him. When that young girl caught him on camera and snooped around he choked her and through his fit of rage hurt his parrot. He literally fell into madness so i’m honestly confused how that wasn’t addressed? plus what happened to the boy with the glasses (sorry names have left my brain) ? we don’t really know what he decided to do and where he went? is the magic real or is it hallucinations? because when glasses boy breaks down and throws a chair you see him look at the light and a butterfly but no one else seems to be able to see it? i don’t know :,) because the girl becomes a party magician afterwards so does that mean magic is as real as you make it? and the last few things she says to the magician is “your a real magician because you made me believe magic is real” or something along those lines IM JUST SO CONFUSION. but the concept was so cool

This show was very unexpected for me. It spoke to me and I could relate to the story . This drama is unlike anything I have ever seen before and was beautifully written and produced. After I finished it I found myself thinking about it over and over and the Peter Pan storyline really did stand out. My daughter and I watched the whole series on Mother's Day. We loved it.

Man, i was waiting for the romance
One correction - it's not becoming a boring adults that horrified the teens but rather becoming corrupt adults. they wanted to retain their innocence, purity, morality which they didn't witness among the adults around them (except for the magician).

I just completed this series this series is amazing, I was expecting this series to end with a invitation card in the mail box just like how the webtoon ended but I hope there will be a season 2
Thw show made me appreciate ji changwook as an artist his voice is so beautiful
I also thought it is about magic then I realized it is actualy a educational and a awareness drama about mental conscioness and awareness however I love the musical and singing.
I feel like it was too short of a show. They could’ve done atleast 8-10 episodes. I got to ep 5 and was confused when i saw there was only 6 episodes.

For those who shift the female cast and JCW, well they casted as an old man and minor not as a love team. Min-hyuk says he likes ah-yi not something as crush but a girl with a good heart.
Watching this has the same feels as reading a Murakami novel. Seriously thinking the characters would be more fleshed out and would be more magical surrealist if it was a book

They want season 2 but it's been 7 or probably 8 years since Author made a original webtoon... He haven't made his season 2 on his webtoon after the first season... Probably they won't make it... Netflix didn't renew it... Or the director finished the story without telling that they will get season 2 because *Author of the Sound of Magic* didn't make his season 2 since he finished it...
I recommend this Netflix series. You can see Jichangwook's ( Rieul's) wonderful acting, singing and magic
In my opinion, it is a happy ending. Lee doesn't go to prison, Yoon grows up to be a happy adult, the real murderer goes to prison. This show really made me believe in magic. This show showed me so much, so many emotions, twists.... 🤨But, do you believe in magic💫. (btw idk if it's Ri or Lee, Google says Lee but netflix Ri)
It is interchangeable. In the Korean language there is no real “R”. “ 리 “ could be pronounced as either “L” or “R” so the English writing, it could be either one. Hope this helps.
@@kellifedds6358 Google translate can't be relied on for words with this letter because it is machine translation, not human. The name we say as Lee in English is actually just Ee in Korean. The Korean translators on Netflix presumably know which pronunciation is correct. It is not "either" in Korean, but the pronunciation must be learned for each word.
@@cathybaggott2873 I’m just learning Korean and I still have a lot to learn. I have found that it is dependent on a number of things with that case with pronunciation. It’s a hard one but I do use Papago to help me with translation and much better than Google translate. The translations are always confusing when learning as it often changes from translator to translator.
Honestly i read annarasumanara ages ago and it made me sad idk why so i don't think i wanna watch. I can't bear to watch anything related to pain

I think the show isn't as depressive as the webtoon and had a proper explanation about the crimes (somehow I remember accusing L as the perpetrator, maybe the webtoon doesn't explain much about how the shop owner was the one doing murders and crimes?) anyway, actually i haven't watch the show for exact same reason lol didn't wish to bawl my eyes out of nowhere again
I haven't read annarasumanara but i can say that the show is a lot more lighthearted. The manhwa has a black and white color tone so i think it just adds to the pain? Idk but i think the show also had pacing problems so it isn't as painful, more like bittersweet.

there are a lot of good messages they tried to give though after reading the manhwa, i think there are things they could've included in the drama more to make it less confusing but the drama did well on the manhwa as well. i think whats confusing in this drama was how they made his magic seem legit in the story like the day with fireworks and lots of lights which isnt as enforced in the manhwa and is just shaken off as a dream/imagination. other scenes are all just his little trickery in the manhwa. because they focused on the security cam capturing the "magic" it distracted me at the end asking myself if magic legit in this story's universe? and missed the important message
Manga* manhwa is a BL or yaoi manga and is called manhwa, the book of this serie is a manga

This series really was a magical experience
I did enjoy and I am looking forward for the next episodes most especially the magician, JCW

I JUST LOVED IT!!! I DO WISH THEY WOULD HAVE BROUGHT HIM BACK TO THE TOWN! Since He was proven Innocent, he could have stayed and make it a Real Circus to give more Joy to everyone!!!
