    Thank you for your videos! I am a new subscriber. I am Filipino and 43 years old without any background in healthcare. Migrated to Canada for 10 years and decided to take nursing. I am in my second year of LPN. I struggled so much but I would love to work as a nurse so I have to keep pushing! I wish all nurses are like your personality because I just encountered a nurse who doesn't like a student. I met awesome nurses also who are great with me and my clinical group.

      Amazing! I started nursing school in my 30s, as a new mom who also moved (across Canada). I appreciate you sharing your journey. Everyone struggles in nursing - it is a demanding occupation. You are in good company

    I'm from the Dominican Republic, I just finished my LPN program, getting ready for NCLEX.
    Learning a new language and a the same time a profession I work so hard my grades in the first semester were depressing but I was improving as the time went on and I finished class with a GPA OF 4.0
    I so amazed 👏

    Ok, so I'm 46 and in nursing school, just starting out (week 5 starts tomorrow). I am totally overwhelmed and while working full-time nights in the ED and being a single mom of 3, I'm also exhausted. Thank you so much for this WONDERFUL advice. I needed this more than you can imagine!❤🎉

    Just finished my first year and I appreciate the advice. The struggle for A’s and comparing my academic performance with others burned me out. Second year will look differently, I hope 👍

    I wish all preceptor were just like you. Some are so mean that doesn’t want to share information at all and then retaliate on student nurse being un safe.

    What helped me boost my grade was doing the practice questions first, then read again at any point I didn't get well during the self evaluation.
    Usually, all the questions come directly from the class, shocking as it sounds, the new language we have to learn and polish is "application/critical thinking/prioritize interventions." That's the most challenging part, but it's imperative to master that because lives depend on us.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! The practice questions are there for a reason :). You may not see the exact question on a test, but something similar

    In accelerated program yet still struggle. Our cohort is a little older, gone through a lot in life, w/ 2-3 degrees including MA. Nursing is a beautiful profession. 🌺 Btw some I'm my class also are NOT native English speakers- it's their 2nd- 3rd. 😆🏆⭐😘

    Objectives? Study guides? We have neither. We have 1200 pages of readings per unit and 300 pages of a power points and then half the questions on the exam weren’t even on the power points and are based off of one sentence from the readings. And that’s per class which we have many. Not to mention clinicals and physical assessment. New York State is awful. Then you need a 75 and up to pass and the teachers don’t even let you know which questions you got wrong to study. They give us nothing. And they just read off the power point and explain nothing. This is not helpful.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Really? I am surprised to hear that. No Learning outcomes? There has to be some direction in a program to guide both the teacher and the students. Most textbooks will have outcomes at the beginning of their chapters

    Do you speak on how to take these tests? I just bombed a test and I feel like I am studying , but when I get to the test I get confused. How do you think when reading these questions. I am 55 and in my 3 rd semester of an LPN to RN program. I need some advice please.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes failing happens - it does not mean you don’t know things, it means learning some test strategies will help
      Talk to your school advisor and they will connect you with resources in the school to help.
      Some subjects may be more challenging than others, its natural
      Review the test with the teacher.

      Preceptors: they are not all the same and sometimes it will feel as if they don’t want a student. It is likely because they want you to succeed and they are feeling like they cannot fulfill the role to the level they would like to.

    Good advice, but the marks do matter. Because they make the grades and now hospitals want nothing less than 3.0. They don't care that you graduated, they want to see grades too. Making student nurses even more anxious.

    • @NurseMinder
      @NurseMinder  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is the first time I am hearing a hospital asking for your marks. It is disappointing because I have seen students with book smarts and great marks have awkward bedside manner

    • @lucycan6363

      @@NurseMinder it's true. Sorry I can't name the hospital, but it's part of their qualifying process for hire. They want the brightest and the best to maintain their magnet status. Must have BSN or the ADN has limited time to achieve it. Seems best to eradicate the ADN programs altogether.
