    *one big thing Gilly missed*
    Pitches were playable on Day 5, but the credit should go to Indian batsmen and blame should go to Aus bowling attack. If Day 5 pitch was too easy to play then how did Siraj and Shardul go through entire Aussie team on Day 4?? both of them barely had any experience among them.
    And this was the situation after Aussies won 3 tosses, if india had won even one of the those 3 tosses, that match would have been totally one sided. Imagine if India got to bat on Day1 in Gabba, Aussies had bowled 131 overs at the end of Sydney test, if put to bowl again they would have conceded 400+ runs!!

  • @mysticriv
    @mysticriv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +110

    Respect gilli, but Tim won the last 3 tosses. Which is one more thing that makes this series the stuff of dreams. I think it’s unfair to keep saying the the pitches didn’t deteriorate, that they were 2nd and 3rd day pitches when 1) your bowlers bowled badly & 2) the captain of all men drops catches. The aussies weren’t good enough, Lyon is overrated, Starc is erratic, and Hazelwood isn’t Waqar Younis. You just can’t rely on Smith the batsman and Cummins the bowler.

    • @RanjitKumar-in3xq
      @RanjitKumar-in3xq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with most of your points except (1) Lyon is overrated. He's not. In fact, he remains one of the World's best and UNDER-RATED bowlers. Throughout the series, Lyon was undone by his thick-headed and pompous captain. Almost EVERY crucial catch Paine dropped that would have been a Turning Point in the game was off Lyon's bowling. Moreover, Lyon has always bowled well across the world and no player has genuinely dominated him. So its unfair to say he is overrated. (2) Waqar Younis is NOT a great benchmark for comparison. To be honest, I rate .... Akram, Akthar, Aamir as far far better bowlers than him. Please look at his bowling trend. As soon as BALL TAMPERING started getting scrutinized heavily, his vicious in-swinging toe-crusher yorkers almost immediately disappeared !
      Anyway, these are just my personal opinions and not trying to enter into any debate. For the record, you are completely entitled to your own opinion and I respect it.

    If the aussies blame the pitch for the loss, i am sorry that argument doesn't stand. The aussie bowlers were meant to take 20 wickets on their home pitches and this was a home series for them not away!! A quartret of bowlers with over 1000 wickets was overshadowed by a group from india who have less than 50 wickets with two of them who made their debut in the test. It is the depth of the Indian team and the outstanding India A program which gives the closest prep to international teams for all those players who are in the squad. You couldn't expect someone like a shardul thakur picking up 7 wickets and score 67 runs in a test in the 2000's and early 2010's on his first proper full test match home or away.
    Give credit where it is due! No need to be a sour patch and blame the pitches when you have total control over them! Accept the defeat, give the opponents their due share of praise and move forward!

    • @diptarshis
      @diptarshis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The greatest Test Series ever was India vs Australia in 2001. It was the greatest Australian side ever (on a 16 match winning streak) against an India reeling from the effects of players being banned for match fixing under a new captain. India lost the first match in Mumbai by an innings but came back to win the next match in Kolkata after following on (second time in a 200 years of test cricket) whilst trailing by 350 runs but scoring 680 in the 2nd and then bowling out the Aussies for 212. Post which India also won in Chennai in similar circumstances to eventually win the series by 2-1. Let me reiterate that this was the greatest Australian side in history led by Steve Waugh having the likes of Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Langer, Hayden Gilchrist amongst others (A team of champions) on a 16 match winning streak after winning in Mumbai. That to me is the greatest Test series of all time. It is probably not remembered across media in Australia and England due to Ashes 2005, but where else would you find an underdog coming back to win a test match and then the series after following on against the greatest Test side ever assembled ?

    • @jigarp999
      @jigarp999 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@diptarshis - Some good points there you made, however, also remember that 1. Indian team had names like Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Zaheer-which was not the case this time around. In fact, this time around we did not even have the 2nd tier team. 2. Home team always has an automatic advantage due to conditions and pitches-this was even more true back in 2001 days. For e.g. Having our fast bowlers do well in Aussie conditions (like this time) is bigger than Bhajji doing well in our own backyard. Also note that even the greatest fast bowling attack in India (in 2001) is not as lethal as the same type of attack in Australian pitches-which is what India faced this time around. 3. Being bowled out for a mere 36 and then escaping from that definite loss in Sydney, and then winning the almost lost game in The Gabba-was no less than winning after a follow-on, if not greater. So in that regards, 2001 and 2021 can be evened out. In the end, at least the conditions were in our favor in 2001. At least, we had the best possible team from the available members in 2001. At least, there was no soul crushing 36 all out in 2001. This time around, you could not come up with a single reason why India should win the series after 36 all out. Back then you had a few things to hang on to at least-such as conditions and big names in the playing XI.

    • @diptarshis
      @diptarshis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jigarp999 Names like Laxman, Dravid were not household names in 2001 ( Not atleast before that series ). Zaheer Khan was a good bowler, not a great bowler. There were players like Venkatapathy Raju, Shiv Sundar Das, Sameer Dighe (debut), Sairaj Bahutule (debut) in that squad along with Harbhajan Singh who was playing only his 5th or 6th test and on the verge of quitting cricket to go drive trucks in Canada. The miracle of surviving follow on and winning, the miracle of a rookie spinner on the verge of quitting being the first Indian to take a hat-trick in tests (and then going on to take 30 wickets in the series and winning Man of the Series award), a relative newcomer to the squad scoring 281 against possibly the greatest spin bowlers and swing bowlers of all time far supercede the miracle of winning after scoring 36 all out abroad. The points working in your favour are - 36 all out, Overseas, 2nd string squad debilitated by injuries. The points working in my favour are - Really bad squad condition and a weak squad depth (demoralised squad who had lost to Pakistan and South Africa that year, suffering from the match fixing scandal), losing comprehensively against the greatest team in history in the first test, coming back after being made to follow on against the greatest team in history with a 16 match winning streak, Winning again in the decider with only 1 fast bowler with the Rookie spinner taking 30 wickets in total. Finally, please do not refer to home conditions as an advantage as India did not have Anil Kumble for that series who was the only great spinner in that squad at the time. We had spinners like Harbhajan (playing his 5th or 6th match), Raju, Bahutule (debut). Others like Zaheer, Agarkar and Srinath were either good (not great) or relative new comers. Also note that the impact of that team in 2001 was incredible. It attracted sponsors made cricketers household names and put India onto the next level since then.

    • @jigarp999
      @jigarp999 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diptarshis - This time around India was defeated by SA, Eng, NZ before Aus tour and so I don’t believe that the team of 2001 was any more demoralized than this one. The playing XI in 2001 series were fairly stable and did not have a new XI playing in every game like this time around. A new combination every game and on top of that having players injured during the test match (not before) is like playing with half the squad. At least, 2001 team had all players fit during the play and there weren’t this many forced changes after every game. So to sum it up -If you were to put on paper the XI that played in 2001 vs the XI in Gabba before the game in Gabba begun, most will agree that 2001 Indian side was much stronger. The chance of 2001 Indian team bouncing back from any situation IN India was much greater than this Indian team bouncing back after 36 all out IN Aus. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree, but anyways, always good to have a meaningful and respectful conversation vs. having a swearing match. Cheers.

      I think that name is only to represent that it was not the first or even the second choice team. Don't be too sentimental about it. What's wrong in him being an Aussie being biased towards the Aussies. Sanjay Manjrekar was vilified for not being pro-India all the time. Double standards?

      All aussies are shellshocked - they have just lost 2 in a row. It will take decades to understand that you can’t bully a team to submission, to behave less partisan in the commentary box. Heck, I still can’t believe that for such a massive series as this, they could get no Indian presence in the box (I’m discounting 5 mins of harsha). Time again, it was Isa Guha v the rest. The commentary actually became comical and pathetic on the last day of the series.

    Australia played the same set of bowlers last series 2017-18 and this series too... India had faced Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc and Lyon for thousands of overs and that is where Australian team selection made a mistake. They should have bought in Jhye Richardson for Starc who was clearly out of form. They are saying Lyon didnt bowl at his best which is unfair cos it was Tim Payne who missed all those crucial catches and stumpings off Lyon. In a nutshell Tim Payne had a poor series as a keeper and it cost Australia the series. Having said that Well Done Rahane and Young India👍👍👍👌👌👌

      Yeah. NZ eng bought Jamieson Curran and they did major damage. Curran robbed 2 games from India and Jamieson had big impact. I wonder if aus go with same bowling line up in coming ashes. But this quartet has been amazing though....I'm sure they will bring their best in ashes.

      Yeah why not? 10 other players dont score and play their part, we blame the one guy who scored runs irrespective or opposition and country. Pujara scores 50 and others play their part with 90s and unbeaten 80s and win the game and he is is selfless. Rahane scores 1 100 in a 4 game series and doesnt get another 50 across 6 innings, he is selfless. I guess, scoring runs is selfish. If only games are won by getting out cheaply.
