Loyal Indian cricket fans who have gone through all those gruesome childhood traumas of test matches & series lost in Australia, where totals of 200 were rare, batting collapses happened every game, missed tricks, ordinary bowling, sometimes even Bucknor spoiling the curry, when you watched India lose games with your dad, & a gloom taking over the house, to have gone through all this, one knew India would eventually lose 1-2 today. This is a miracle, to say the least. The win in 2018 under Kohli made me feel pumped, but at the back of the mind you knew we would get back to losing once Australia fields full strength. This win makes you cry, a depleted side trumping the mighty Aussies. Classic underdog success story. This is NEW INDIA, not just in terms of cricket, but as a nation turning 75, brushing off our colonial baggage & self-loathing, we are coming.
Well written Mudit. I totally echo your sentiments. i'm 44 and I saw India struggle against Australia in 1991/92, 1999/2000 and later too. The 2003-04 draw was very satisfying at that time for me, but I they were without McGrath and Warne then, and that made the series a "bit" easier for India (i'm taking nothing away from Rahul Dravid and Ajit Agarkar in Adelaide). 2007-08 was again disappointing, and let's not even talk about the 4-0 drubbing we got in 2011-12. Since then we've shown some fight, but oh how satisfying is this one. I cannot get enough of it.
Thanks so much for the whole series. It's been a brilliant series of test cricket (the best I can ever remember), and having found this podcast has added to my enjoyment of it. Much respect, kudos and thanks.
