    Here are some materials I use. If you want to support me, consider purchasing them via these links.
    The paints I use are 'Old Holland' from Dutch factory 'Scheveningen'. These have a very high pigment load and are very thick. This way you can add your medium of choice, without thinning the paint too much. I usually get 225ml tubes which saves about 30%. The tubes last a long time, on average I use about 1 225ml tube a year for each color. The set I use, in the actual order I have them on my palette:
    Titanium white: 40ml: amzn.to/34lTQkH 225ml: amzn.to/3c9EjqR
    Scheveningen yellow lemon: 40ml: amzn.to/2JVWMuE 225ml: amzn.to/2xYFWc2
    Cadmium yellow deep: 40ml: amzn.to/3c3rpud 225ml: amzn.to/3aXmlaS
    Scheveningen orange: 40ml: amzn.to/2UWmR3e 225ml: amzn.to/2Rmxwlp
    Scheveningen red medium: 40ml: amzn.to/3aWu1dx 225ml: amzn.to/2xkaQvk
    Alizarin crimson: 40ml: amzn.to/2V9kNne 225ml: amzn.to/3eaIrZi
    Dioxazine mauve: 40ml: amzn.to/2JUxmxz 225ml: amzn.to/3eeIhQX
    Ultramarine blue deep: 40ml: amzn.to/2RrAwgv 225ml: amzn.to/39SutYV
    Transparent oxide red: 40ml: amzn.to/2Rkf5ht 225ml: amzn.to/39WSKwS
    Scheveningen green deep: 40ml: amzn.to/39Rrsb3 225ml: amzn.to/2wwSPK8
    Sap green lake extra: 40ml: amzn.to/2xk9ctE 225ml: amzn.to/2Vdv0zj
    Ivory black 40ml: amzn.to/2JVYcFu 225ml: amzn.to/2UURoye
    Occasionally I use a small amount of this very saturated blue/green, but I don't keep it on my palette: Scheveningen blue: 40ml: amzn.to/2ViAPLA 225ml: amzn.to/2RrCFZB
    My standard medium that I've been using lately, consists of equal parts venetian turpentine and linseed oil:
    Talens venetian turpentine amzn.to/3aVTBz3
    W&N Stand oil amzn.to/3aUR5JC
    W&N Linseed oil amzn.to/34pUpKn
    Some brushes I use: cheap hog bristles for initial lay in, similar to these: amzn.to/2VxdYfL, long script liner brushes for details, eg. these Da Vinci ones: amzn.to/3a5Q0xb (size 10 or so). Other favorite brushes of mine are Rosemarys bristles, and Talens Van Gogh round ox hair brushes.

    I am going to make myself one of those grid tools this weekend. I enjoy your videos and appreciate you making them for us.

      Yes its very convenient. I used elastic nylon thread for this so they can be pushed sideways and are straight when left alone. They are fixed to a foam board by running the thread through slits cut in the sides at 2 cm distances. The first thread starts at 6 cm from the side for easy alignment.

    Wow that was really beautifully handled. looking at the way you work gives me a better understanding of the kind of stuff I want to do. sometimes I look at my work and I'm not sure if it is quite the way I want it to be. But after looking at your presentation I realize that maybe I just haven't gone far enough. n Thank you for sharing your work with us. It is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Jos. From one painter to another, marvellous work! I’ve
    enjoyed watching many of your painting demos over the years but I’ve never seen
    you use a grid before. May I ask why you’ve adopted this method now? I’ve found
    that a grid can speed up the transfer of a complex drawing but actually slows
    the process down when working with a simple composition! Thanks.

    Wonderful painting. I'm so envious of your talent! Just read how you made your grid. What a good idea. I'm presuming you would grid the photo you are copying from too? But you can't use this method from an scene in front of you, can you? Or do you have a magic method for that too?!

    • @josvanr
      @josvanr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thnx ! Yes I did use a photo to make the composition and gridded that to make the drawing. But I do paint from the actual setup, to get the balance of colors / tones right. What you could also do is place a similar grid in front of the subject. I did try that: I made a grid with half the grid size, mounted on a tripod in front of the subject. But that isn't very practical. Your head needs to be in exactly the same position then (like with sight size)...

    Amazing painting. Really appreciate the video. One small thing though, watching the canvas being turned constantly, loosing the fun in watching. I know when one paints we do exactly that :)

    I was at the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam a few months ago and your painting really reminds me of Vermeer's painting. Crazy work!
    Just one dumb question though. If you are not painting from a photo what's the point of putting your painting sideways and upside down occasionally during the painting?

    • @josvanr
      @josvanr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      thnx! Yes a great inspiration that one... I occasionally put the painting in another orientation to be able to access certain contours more easily. Eg at some point I want to paint some of the backgrond back over a cherry. I need to then smudge some paint in the background, with the tip of the brush pointing to the contour of the cherry. So then the brush would have to be upside down which is not so convenient. Turning the painting around makes it easier..

    How can you colour the cherries through the bowl glass?

    • @josvanr
      @josvanr  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! Hmm I'm not entirely sure about the phrasing but I think you mean: through the glass the cherries look a bit greener, so I just use a bit greener paint there and it looks as if they are behind glass..

    Ужас! Кто вас учил рисовать с линейкой или палкой. У каждого художника должен вырабатываться свой острый глаз и навык в руке для писания картин.

    • @user-ew8xh1in8r
      @user-ew8xh1in8r 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Это не линейка, палочка ставится под руку, чтоби кистью не размазывать свежую краску и при этом на нее можно было опереться.. Линии под нее никто не проводит. Лайфхак довольно часто используемый, потому как если день ото дня рисуешь на весу, кисть болит так, что чашку чая не удержишь.

    • @user-qy3cm2ch6k
      @user-qy3cm2ch6k 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Первое смотрите внимательно самое начало видио где накладывается сетка и начинают ставить точки. Потом линейкой проводятся линии. Второе весь рисунок от начала и до конца рисуется рукой на весу. В свое время также много рисовала. Рука настолько была натринирована что до сих пор держит себя. К тому же рука на весу и при этом кисть руки крутилась во все стороны.Рисовали мы натюрморты. Красками или карандашом. Гипсовые части лица только в более большом размере. Глаза нос уши рот голова. Кто то нашел настоящий череп и также его рисовали. Потом приглашали старых людей. У них лучше просматривались черты лица.
