The director has toned down the intensity of the events because reality was much more ‘horrific’ and these incidents can be cross checked. There’s even a book on it ‘Our moon has blood clots’ by Rahul pandita.

Hi jaby. I am a kashmiri hindu too. Though I was born 15 years after this event happened, my family would often tell me stories about situation during that gruesome time. My mom's family was quite rich. They had a 3 storeyed house, a big farmland and an orchard. But one day her cousins got kidnapped and they got threats to leave that place immediately otherwise the kidnappers won't return them. So without taking any money, any documents, they had to flee from the place at midnight in the back of a truck. Their property was later burnt down. They had to live in refugee camps and change places many times before they could finally settle down. My grandfather and grandmother had to find new jobs. But one thing was ensured that my mom and siblings' education is not hampered the slightest.
I will tell you another one. When my paternal grandfather went to claim his house, he found out his property records were deliberately deleted. So he had to face a lot of hardships for claiming the amount. When he was done, he met 2 of his friends(KMs) who were taking him somewhere. They reached near a house, they told him to wait outside while they both went inside. My grandpa saw a KM woman at the window who was gesturing him to run away from there. That's how he narrowly escaped from a possible murder.
Now there might be some people saying this film is fake and all, but they belong to the same lobby that downplayed our suffering for 32 years. I would request you to ignore such people.
    Thanks for watching❤

The Rice container incident is based on the BK Ganjoo murder
The rape is based on Girja Tikoo rape
The reportage by the journalist is based on the Barkha Dutt news clip
This movie shows just 5, percent of the atrocities
There were thousand of such cases
One of my Kashmiri Pandit friend's father was a fruit merchant and his head was cut off and planted on the main door of his family, one of his aunts kidnapped and all this happened with the support of local Muslims.
In fact there were lists of women being put up in every locality, on which Hindu woman will belong to which Muslim man
There is another famous incident where a man was cut into hundred pieces and his body was discovered when a sack containing human flesh was discovered in the local river, it was being eaten by fishes. The terrorists had written a letter to the woman stating that her husband has been killed and thrown into the river. the head was intact that is how it was identified
Another woman when discovered her father's dead body, when was about to lift it for final rituals, all the organs of the body came falling out. Kashmiri Hindu teachers were murdered by their very own Muslim students, A kashmiri pandit teacher was gang-raped by her teenage students, A renowned KP lawyer again was brutally murdered by his own friend. These were the people who had grown up with Kashmiri Pandits and turned into monsters .
The incidents are so brutal that it becomes impossible to believe them but they happened with the help of educated and rich neighbours and terrorists alike.
This was the FINAL ethnic cleansing in Kashmir. Post independence there have been 7 exoduses/genocide of Kashmir Hindus
And since the Islamic invasions, millions have been either converted or killed. Kashmiri Hindus have lived in Kashmir for over 6000 years of available recorded history long before Islam was even born. Thousand of temples in Kasmir have been destroyes. Despite that we still have a few hundreds left and they ar still being attacked. These are ancient temples and speak of the ancient Vedic civilization of Kashmir.
Recently too a Kashmiri Hindu boy was killed in Kashmir

It is no surprise that the tale of this Kashmiri Holocaust was brushed under the carpet and silenced for all these years, as it wasn’t the first or the last either. This was one of the seven large-scale genocides of Kashmiri Hindus. The first was between 1389 and 1413, the second was between 1506 and 1584, the third followed in 1585-1752, the fourth was in 1753, the fifth was between 1931 and 1965, followed by the sixth wave of genocide and exodus in 1986. This reflects the timeline of the six Kashmiri Hindu genocides and subsequent mass migrations since the arrival of Islam.

For me, it wasn't the last 10 minutes that drove it home. It was the first 10 minutes when they started assaulting Shiva just for cheering Sachin. More than anything else, it showed the last moments of an innocent childhood that was soon to be plucked away. When I looked at that moment, I remember how, at his age, I had a carefree childhood, played cricket with friends, cheered Sachin, and went home to my mom and dad. Some part of me felt like it was me going through such experiences. I too had a grandfather who lived with us. I had an elder sister. It was more disturbing to watch that single scene than all the cruelty shown later because it felt like something that could've easily happened to me. The victims looked and felt like people I knew: my friends, my relatives, my family. Watching the kid's childhood and life destroyed on screen was something I could barely stomach. This hit harder than the random acts of violence. This is why I got to give some credit to the director. Shiva could easily be someone you know. Even your cousin or sibling. Watching him end up like he did was painful in a way that stays with you long after the shock of the cruelty done to all the others has dissipated.

This movie has left me in tears(in theater). I have been fact checking so many events for that entire week and i was so pissed as to why this was kept like a secret and not let this in the open just for political purposes.. so pissed at media being bias and back in those days i guess the powerful people had all types of means to change how the news be told from one corner of the country to everyother corner. We only heard about all the stories in the film as rumours spoken around few people.. while there was so much of evidence buried deep.
Huge respect for the filmmakers without any bias or sugar coating .. of course they had to tone down the violence. But other than that they have put forth the story that has been waiting to be told for so many years and the cries of pundits muted for such long period.

This movie is just a Propoganda of BJP in reality neither director nor BJP care about kashmiri pandits for example: When a reporter asked Director Vivek Agnihotri that 'will you donate some percentage of profit to kashmiri pandits'? he just ignored that question completely
And now BJP doing so wrong with kashmiri pandits that they're protesting against modi and govt. and Vivek Agnihotri, Anupam kher and these hypocrite people who were crying while watching this movie has no guts to speak a word against modi and stand with kashmiri pandits because these people just don't really care about them, these people and govt. just using Kashmiri pandits name for propoganda and for their own benefits
This movie is completely biased and showing only side of story, it just made to spread hatred in reality there were indian muslims died too, both Hindus and Muslims survived because of they were supporting eachother and helped eachother, That's what a kashmiri pandit of that era would say and they already claimed it in several interviews.
So this movie completely biased and propogandic

@Prabhat Kumar Islamists justify it. Real liberals and left wingers just call out the right wing on their bs and propaganda which is exploiting the pain of the pandits to gain political ground. Dont u dare call Islamists as left wingers. As for the extreme left that is radical commies, they dont care about all this or know much about it so have a valid opinion. We dont have a proper liberal front in India. Congress was supposed to be that but gandhis just sit there and rot it away without any actual ideology. Kejriwal made a blunder by appearing as if he is a genocide denier. Eventhough he later clarified, such a blunder will always be used against him. However he is still the much better option than congress at this point. That was a blunder which he clarified later so at least for me, there is a chance. Even BJP has a very dark history but people gloss over it, one or two mishaps wont matter if AAP can deal with it later on.
We need a real strong liberal front, a moderate centre left party that can show what proper liberals look like.
Also recently the pandits in Kashmir protested against BJP for their inaction and all bark no bite approach after rahul Bhatt murder. How has no one called out BJP on that? Even the pandits are frustrated. Dont treat them like playthings for politics

Thank you for this jaby... I commend you for being a true equalist and liberal...
Also Achara, Shiva being the progenitor of yoga and meditation, the symbolism of him being under constant attack is to say that compassion, wisdom, and fairness are the first victims of any war based on fanatism. Sharda being the goddess of art and culture under threat symbolizes the sheer absence of art and culture since the brutal incident that happened in the Kashmir valley. And the protagonist is named Krishna, A spiritual being appearing a materialist and becomes an astute politician for the sake of justice in the world. It's a hint that hope still exists if responsible people come forward to provide justice to those that have been utterly deprived of it.

    Dear Jaby and Achara,
I salute your courage to react to this movie, It has been very casually ignored in India by majority of bollywood and it has been labeled as a fake movie by the whole left ecosystem. The incidents which took place in Kashmir that time are 10x more horrific than shown in the movie and FYI all of them are on record and one can very easily find out their authenticity. When I watched this movie in the theatre I was sad and disheartened but now when I am watching with you guys it is hitting altogether at a different level.
The point raised by you people regarding student politics being this important is very correct- In majority of colleges and universities student politics is very docile but this college which is being shown in the movie is drawing a parallel to JNU (JawaharLal Nehru University) in Delhi which has been in news for decades and very often quoted by media as breeding ground for anti India propaganda....
Thank you for your impartial reaction.

I was teenage school going child at that time living in the eastern part of India (more than 1000 km away from that state). I can tell you whatever shown are just 2% of the incidents really happened. It was pre planned. Chief Minster Farooq Abdulla, resigning (who already released several terrorists by that time), Home Minister, Mufti Md Syyed ( he is also from Kashmir and is unofficially credited to allowing breaking of at lest 500 Hindu temples when he was home minister of Jammu & Kashmir) and opposition leader former PM Rajiv Gandhi inert and then blaming everything on just one month old PM, VP Singh and Governor who went after 19-20 Jan 1990 incident ie on 22nd.

Only 70-80 yrs ago anyone who studied Vedas were advised to visit Kashmir for higher education in Hinduism or Vedas. It is a tradition as old as Hinduism. So u understand the civilisational significance of Kashmir for Hindus.

kashmiri used to practice shaivism during 16 and 17 th century , it was a place where everyone was studying that following that and so even after centuries kashmiri hindu still celebrated and follows same ritual.. so hence the coloring of face as and the name shiva also.. and we do have skits about our history books.. so that is the reason

1.) Achara's intuition regarding Anupam Kher's make-up as Lord Shiva and his grandson's name also being Shiva is correct as those have a deep significance in the context of Kashmir because it is the land which gave our world a very sophisticated system of philosophy of studying Consciousness, by the name 'Kashmiri Shaivism' ('Shaiva' are those who follow Lord Shiva).
On a side note, even the name 'Kashmir' of that region is after the Hindu Rishi 'Kashyap' who's said to have drained out a large water-body to create that land.
2.) The intensity of student politics is different in different Indian Universities. The University depicted in this movie (the JNU, modified to ANU in this movie) is a University in the National Capital of India which happens to be a fortress of extreme leftists/communists, and whose alumni has had its stranglehold on almost all Institutions of Thought-control in India since the early '70s (courtesy India's heavily leaning towards the USSR during that era, and also the Indira Gandhi Govt requiring the support of Communist MPs to form her Govt). All domains of the Humanities, including politics, the medium of power, have been under the thumbs of the communist left since then. So powerful has been their grip that, even today, the present dispensation hasn't been fully able to free the system of their influence completely despite Modi being at the helm of affairs for good 8 years now.
