It must be nice to be planting your own garden rather than someone else’s! So clever to be planting NOW in,order for it to become established and FULL by the time the chateau reaches completion.
Nick is just a super hero. The two of you can literally do anything from cook to garden to build a freaking castle alone..... You both are super heroes!
You are doing history justice I am so proud of everything you and your friends have accomplished! My town has been ruined by cheap remodeled homes and slum duplexes and fires. Seeing a building this far gone become beautiful again warms my heart.
We saw a beautiful ruin in a Portugese city and we were tempted to restore it too but the practical things... like having the skills and I have no idea how much it would cost if we would let it be done.
I have never seen a man use a digger with such grace and beauty as Nick had done here today in the Garden. Great Job Nick!
You are desperate for a comment.
@@denzilburriss5156 Anyone who loves watching Dan work, loves watching Team Dan work, including Nick., the tree expert & fellow Jack-of-all-trades.
See the all the 👍 for commenter Barbblake, the next comment below, and many others praising Nick's expertise with equipment...such finesse!
You are so wise to recreate the grounds around the chateau right along with the rebuild…the end results will be well worth your time and care. You are truly giving her back her life…she is so much more than brick and mortar…she’s your home❤
There is nothing like a garden to make a house feel like a home. ❤
Hmmm, you need a house first!?!
Watching nick use that digger ,is almost magical, like he is caressing the soil. What a clever man. Dan it’s going to be spectacular 🤗
As a long term gardener, just watching that planting makes me happy, well done.
The boys were adorable with their excitement of popping the plants out of the containers on yesterday's vlog. Good to see them and their mom😊
Of course, you were absolutely correct to work on the gardens while you are restoring the chateau. When the chateau restoration is ultimately complete, the gardens will look like they belong.
No he isn't. He needs to finish the roof now to prevent further damage. The chateau will take 5, 6, or 7 years to finish. There will be plenty of time in the seasons ahead for planting and landscaping. At the moment a lot of the work he has already done is getting soaked day after day.
The roof is the absolute priority. A few months dedicated to that now is necessary.
Watching Nick with the wee bucket on the digger is a delight, he's an artist with machines.
We adore Nick, he’s the best, what a talented guy.
I really enjoy watching the dogs/puppies in the background as Dan and Nick do what they do best
Anna is such an active pup! She’s got her nose into everything! Elsa is a little bit shirt & seems content to just watch Anna. Beautiful dogs!
@@karenniehues4786 watching them running with Dan on the quad bike with Stephanie was brilliant!🤣
Due to logistics and budget, landscaping often takes a backseat to structures during a renovation. It's nice to see you're integrating landscaping with the restoration of the structures. The entire property is being renewed and revitalized. Lovely.
Not when the roof is open they don't.
There are no logistics and budget preventing him from finishing the roof.
Once the roof is on, he will have all the time in the world for landscaping.
The work he has already done is getting soaked by the rain and it will cost him €10,000s if he doesn't finish the roof now.
There will be 7 years ahead for planting. It's not important now.
@@PreservationEnthusiast I am in agreement, Dan's priorities last year ensured he put the part of the roof structure on during Winter which was a difficult task and one that took a lot of effort out of Nick and himself, if he carries on with his current priorities he will be putting the roof structure on the second wing in Winter which is far more difficult and dangerous than carrying it out in the Summer and Autumn, and yes there is in my estimation 8 more years before the Chateau and grounds are finished. Also from a purely financial point of view (Which needs to be considered during a long build if something goes awry, hopefully it doesn't) a Chateau with a roof structure on is more saleable than a chateau with a secret chateau garden which currently will add zero to the value of the Chateau and the grounds, Dan bought it but previous to that it has remained empty for 30 odd years, that's how important a "full" roof is!?!
@@TomTomicMic Yes, it is a bit sad that he said he will sort the roof as a priority and then gets sidetracked by landscaping again.
I mean once he gets the roof on, I don't mind if he spends the next year doing landscaping! Then it will have six or seven years to mature by the time the chateau is finished. That's ample.
He would be protecting the investment of time and materials he has already put in to the building.
The only reason I can think of is that he has a large audience segment of gushing American ladies who don't understand the first thing about construction and he thinks he needs to keep them happy doing some planting and the like. So it's a social media decision ... perhaps he gets more funding or patreon action from this kind of content.
But he is taking a big risk on the higher chateau levels where a storm could destroy the back room window portal or damage the tower as well as the continual soaking of stuff he's already invested in.
@PreservationEnthusiast at the speed he is going now the roof will be finished soon 🤞 I think few weeks at best, that would be best case scenario, remember he has a lot of friends and 2 small kids now so possibly a lot of distractions.. I would also love to see when both roofs are finished and then he see him do the brickwork and plastering connecting pipes possibly putting a fully functioning bathroom etc would be awesome! I hope he doesn't go with original plans and makes some twists like maybe see tru roof glass in middle or something , could be a star gazing room with a telescope , what a Dream Dan will be living in 2 3 years time.. can't imagine 😍😇😇🫠
@@MarcineKKK I honestly don't think the roof will be finished before Christmas this year and that's minus the tower which is a very complicated roof. Essentially he has 4 more roofs to do. The other wing, the back wing, the central corridor and the tower. These are more complicated than what he has already done with lots of valleys and awkward joins, different levels.
Yes I agree a skylight may be good but local planning says the exterior should be as the original chateau so he may have to be fairly careful or get permission for that modification if it is visible from the outside... he can do what he wants inside. He may have to put a temporary ridge roof over the tower because getting the turret right will take a lot of time and he needs to get the whole place watertight.
A bathroom would be nice but again he needs to get the roof on and let get the whole place dried out as water has been soaking into the structure for 40 years and that needs some time to dry and stabilise before he can think of internal furnishings.
Dan you Nick are just what we need in these crazy times ❤❤
So pleased to see you having a few days off from building construction. Your boys were so gorgeous explaining how to get plants out of the pots, what a wonderful experience for them to be a part of it. ‘The End’ cracked me up.
I know it's just me and is a bit sentimentally mawkish, but every time my TH-cam feed says there's a new EtRF video uploaded my heart skips a happy beat and I click straight in for the latest visual bit of joy! - yay!
definitely not alone in that!
It's not just you. Dan is the reason I check You Tube every day.
Yup. Not just you. The gardening side is not my favourite but you can really see the outline of what it will mature into
This channel is the ONLY reason I turned on notifications for TH-cam ❤️
Ooooo agree with all of you! I love the progress inside out! 😊❤
My gardeners heart is dancing with joy, the garden will be worth it!!!
I hope you take a moment every now and again to recognize what has been accomplished. Those sunsets from the various balconies always look fantastic! The view must go for miles. I hope the weather will cooperate now and you will get natural irrigation so all the plants can take hold. Thanks for the opportunity to see this grand project grow!
Did you see the recent video of Stephanies visit to help plant the plants? Well Dan took her up the 'steps" to show her what he has done. Also rejoicing together on the beautiful balconies and fabulous views, including the new plantings.. It was a lovely with 2 close friends celebrating what has been achieved.
Brilliant that the garden is developing at the same time as the restoration of the chateau. Great admiration from me.
Nice to see Nick planting trees as well as he can take them out!
Beats watching the telly, love these videos!🧡
I could watch you and Nick all day. Dan, I believe this will be one of the most beautiful Chateaus around. The views you will have will be epic. Be careful.
With the green of the plants and the birds chirping and the view of the chateau I can see it coming alive, excellent team Dan. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Getting your hands in the dirt, and connecting to the Earth is just what the doctor ordered, Dan. ❤
You make a old lady happy. I love watching your journey 💕🙏

One of my favorite channels. As an architect and historic preservationist, I look forward to the new vlogs.
The garden is going to be lovely in its own right as well as a perfect frame for the chateau. Well done!
Dan, it's looking more and more fabulous every day.
Cheers to you and Nick.
There is nothing I enjoy more than watching you and your associates recreating the chateau and gardens. Even though I am longer physically capable to do the work in my dreams I feel like I am right beside you doing this. That is the magic of your cinematography.
This channel gets nothing but love. The only controversy is whether or not one worries about the safety of Dan and company or trusts them to be safe without nagging them. You people need to let them do their thing. YOU PEOPLE!!!😉😃
Short n sweet. Day by day. One bite at a time, can’t wait to see it all come together. Dan The Man.
A little advice - if a wheelbarrow wheel is too soft it is harder to push when it`s full. Make sure it`s pumped up
The garden is going to be blooming lovely Dan Daily 🌿🌱🌺😊
Looking forward to seeing 90yo Nick trimming those trees in a distant future episode of “Escape”
gardening is more pleasing when it is your own plans or land.
So true. I find that gardening is a great stress reliever too!
Absolutely nothing else compares with all the Beauty of Nature it attracts...Awesome.
@@ultraviolettp3446 yup doctor told me to keep doing it.
You're doing amazing justice to the history, location and environmental soundness of the area. It's going to look absolutely wonderful 🌳
It's going to be amazing when it matures!! Im glad to see sunshine your way, and Nick playing with the big toys is always fun to see. Thank you again for including us all in your fantastic journey!!!
The amount of people invested in your journey is astounding. 10k views in 10 minutes kind of baffles me. But I’m one of them and always looking forward to the next video. Love the progress and the efforts you’re putting into everything that will turn the chateau into the chateau it deserves to be.
I think the appeal is that we get the satisfaction of the creative process without having to do any of the hard work!
An hour later and he’s maintaining that pace (10k/10 mins) the appeal of this channel is undeniable. Glad to be amongst this crowd 😀
Hi everyone. Hope you are all well. The garden is beginning to look better and better every day. It's truly starting to come to life.
Dan and Nick and Cameron where ever you are have done a lot of work on that garden and to see Dan do the garden as well as the chateau has been a lovely journey to watch. Have a lovely day.
Love watching your video from Australia every day. The garden will be beautiful when mature. Congratulations on all you have done. I love when people write the country they are from. on the live broadcast. A world united and happy for you. Finish the stairs with a rail. How Steph went went up and down on the stairs is beyond me. Remember safety is important and not a joke. See you tomorrow.
This is going to be so beautiful Dan. Love how you all are planning the gardens out. Davy is such a big help. All the best to you all. I love following and watching all your progress. The puppies are getting so big and very pretty! Love how they follow you all around. So good to see Nick back helping you.
It’s lovely to see Dan back doing what he did when we first got to know him. The garden will look fabulous ❤
The garden is going to look amazing! Well done! 😎
I see you have loads of people who came to help. It's a good thing you and Nick are fast workers.
Amazing work Dan and Nick - really taking shape and looks fantastic
I love that you are putting the garden in now rather than once the work is done on the chateau. You'll get to enjoy it so much longer and it will bring you joy through the rough times. Great job!
I love love love how it's coming together! Dan and Nick are rockstars! It's a grand palace, Dan! I can't wait to visit!
Goooood Morning! ❤
Big Dan, it was short but it was definitely sweet, we'll see ya tomorrow!!
I just imagine all the new happy varmints that will be calling the Chateau home!
I would like to see the grounds again in a year. It will be magical, I’m sure!😊
Of course Dan the Gardner side of you will have an amazing garden! With your's and Nick's expertise it will be as if it was always there! I love watching the process!
Love the garden content ! Can we get an idea of plans from the floorplan what you want each room to be or what you invision in 5,10, 20 years time . Would be lovely to see
Juniper!! How lovely.
I realy enjoyed you and Stephanie. Naughty boy frightening her!😂❤
I'm glad you plan ahead. If you didn't do the garden you could finish the house a couple days earlier - but you'd have delayed the garden several years.
That spreading juniper will be amazing at covering the ground and has an added bonus - deer do not eat it.
Thank you, Dan. The garden looks like a lovely garden, more and more.
Those dogs are so sweet.
Thank you. ❤🎉❤🎉😊
Yippee he’s back.
Another great day of fluffing the dirt and planting! You are doing a fantastic job with the help of your friends and family. Keep on keeping on, it is a fantastic journey you are on!🙏❤️
This place is going to just beautiful when its all done.
Woohoo! A live!!!
Slowing down a few days to do the planting doesn't delay the roof that much, most likely. I'm sure dan could use a break from the absolute monotony of doing the same thing day after day. The garden is getting planted and mulched, so he won't have as much weeding to do this summer.
Good to see the garden progressing so well!
The garden area is coming together very well. Looks nice!
It will be beautiful 👏👏👏
A real home taking shape🥰🙌
Closing in on 500k viewers. Incredible!
I love seeing the bushes flowering. It's a lot of work but it is worth it.
The yard is looking good. Good choice
I have always liked the spreading evergreen with rocks and such. good choice
Me too!
I’m amazed that he planted without gloves. Whenever I tried to weed junipers I came away with pokey, itchy wounds that lasted for days. Look great, tolerate being ignored, hated trying to prune or weed.r
@@louisehadlock9463 hope he mulches with chips
I’m glad you’re balancing your work between construction and gardening - so healthy and so satisfying to see completed projects!
Did l just hear live feed tomorrow thanks ❤❤❤
Loved your last live feed week
The garden is going to look great. 👍👍
Love the garden work!
The garden will look amazing when it all grows, so looking forward to that. 🌸
So smart to develop the garden now and keep future maintenance at a minimum.
Inspired by your video, I’m heading to the Garden Center after work.
Any excuse to buy plants, is a good excuse.
Happy Gardening.
Don’t t forget to sit in the garden and enjoy your hard work.
Dan,Nick my gardeners. Beautiful job with the plantings. When completed I can imagine how beautiful the grounds will look. Slowly but surely the work will get done. Until tomorrow. Please, take care and stay safe. Love ya 🍺🍺👍🙏🕊😇🌞🇺🇸🌹🌈❤️
Well done Dan and Nick.Fabulous job on the garden. It’s really looking beautiful 🥰
Well dones, with the small stuff. Planting all those small pots can be backbreaking work - speaking for experience!
Really looking forward to see where the pond and streams are mapped out. See you tomorra x
This whole place is going to be gorgeous when it is completed!! The garden is really taking shape 😊
The garden is looking amazing Dan. The work you and nick, plus others have done on the chateau is truly amazing. It is slowly coming back to life, and your attention to detail will do it justice in the end.
I just love watching the garden come to life with every plant put in.
I enjoy watching the people around you showing you love. I hope all of your dreams come true. Thanks mate.
The boys are growing so quickly. It was a nice treat to see them.
Garden looking so nice. Suggest you put a little air in the wheelbarrow tire to make moving it a bit easier. Love watching you transform and learn the history of the chalet.
Watching your videos has become a part of my life now. 🎥👀I look forward to seeing you whenever you are on. The progress you have made is almost magical. History in the making right before our eyes. One day I can say, I saw this Chateau go from runes to its magical Beauty one step at a time.
Looking good Dan, love the pups. Thought your kids were twins, too cute in yesterday's video. Glad Stefanie did not fall walking up and down the stairs. The french translation of the fire report was needed.
Looking GOOD love the progress ❤❤
Well done all! 🎉❤
in the states you could go to Walmart to buy a couple of boxes of worms and throw them into the garden to help condition the soil.
I've really enjoyed seeing how all the new plantings and new gardens have grown at Stephanie's and now it will just as enjoyable watching your gardens grow each season. Lots of hard work, but it pays off in the pleasure you'll have seeing them grow.
The garden is growing a bit at a time and is going to be beautiful when done.
Great to see you and Nik working there together . I hope that he will be a regular visitor to the Chateau when everything is complete , you 2 appear to be forming a strong friendship over there
Dan, my dear mum used to say "it's not stoney, it's well drained soil" 💜👌
Looking fab 😃
I love gardening just wait till this summer things will really start to go👏
Oh my goodness Dan. My hands are itching to get in there and help out with the garden!!!!
Rhododendrons by the gate... of course. Of course. Perfect.
My inner scepticism about designer gardens is being held under strict control for the next few years. The tension is likely to affect my health. So get watering! 👋🤘🤞💪👍
PS I think mini diggers are surely one of the top ten unrecognised wonders of the world.
If you have deer, the rhododendrons will be gone!
