just going through all your videos and this is one of my faves...Seeing the inside of these things makes you realise how amazing moving lights are, and the fact it is a perfect marriage of mechanical and electronic technology. Great video
you probably dont care at all but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
CJ... THANK YOU!!!! I've been beating my head against the wall for the last week trying to fix two 7R's with disassembled pan gears!! The static one.... yea.... I took the wrong approach and started to get at it from the bottom with no avail. SO SAD to hear that I have to unplug all the wiring to get to it, but SO HAPPY that I found a solution. Also, so happy that the info came from you! Been a fan of your channel for a couple months now. I'm a lighting guy in a sound shop, so I don'thave a ton of people to bounce ideas and thoughts off of, so I gleefully resort to your videos. Thanks for being here!! If you're ever in the Memphis area and need gear or help....
Love the video, personal preference I strongly dislike some Elation fixtures, I give you mad props to having the patients to work with the 5R. I found that customer service not very helpful. I personal am certified by Vari-lite as a Technician, our shop has primarily VL, Clay Paky and Robe. Also, just for some constructive criticism, when you were explaining the 5R with yellow belt being broken. I like you asked your viewers what the problem could be, but you should go in to detail about why the belt broke. Also for people who don't know that the glass flags are dichroic glass. Over great video, love your channel.
On the second unit you repaired, the one with the frayed and broken cable like belt, what caused the fraying that led to it's demise? Was it caused by age, use, or poor quality material it was constructed from? Have viewed a number of these repair videos and no one takes the time to explain why the malfunctions take place, or even question the reason for it's failure. For the sake of longevity and reliability, plus customer satisfaction, why are the failures never questioned or investigated prior to returning the unit to the customer?
Great video very helpful! I'm going to eventually fix lights, just out of curiosity around how much would you charge to fix a light with a simple problem like this or something that takes you an hour? you don't have to answer if you don't want
This just reminded me of a PR XS250 that had its head crushed down (somehow) I had to remove the whole head off the base and pull the brackets out to straighten them. This is what happens when the client wants the light repaired and the parts are no longer available.
I was sent to a repair certification for GLP lighting fixtures. I feel your pain with the pan belt. With GLP stuff you basically have to take the whole head off to replace the damn thing.
Hello Sir. I have platinum HFX having hard time to trouble shout the pan tilt And I already done check all of the pan/ tilt motor / tilt card but the issue is stil persested, still sending message pan/ tilt error, any thought? Its a big help. Thank you appriciated.
Christian; when i have to fix lights in my club its party of my base pay :( But sometimes its fast for me to send them back to the manufacture as they have the part.A few weeks ago I blow one belt and they told me "we are out of stock". OMG I sent it to them and they fixed it in less then a day. But the newer lights that are out now are so much easier to fix; then the ones i had in 2004
Some of the belts are generic stock. Find the width of the belt, the pitch which is most likely metric, and number of teeth. For example a 2mm pitch belt 5mm wide with 200 teeth is easy to find. The belts are often the same as used in robotics, CNC routers, laser printers, etc. The motors are common stepper motors. Often NEMA 17 or NEMA 23 in size with 3 or 5mm shaft.
I have a Platinum Spot 5r (non pro.) It boots up fine, everything nice and smooth. When you signal it to pan, it just jerks till it hits the mechanical stop. Any idea what's going on?
I just got a fixture, the till doesn't alight as the others and it grinds when it hits the stop buy doesn't reach the till stop when it tills on the opposite direccion. I adjusted the head by removing the belt it improve but still off a bit. should I move the belt a bit more or I have a bad motor ? sensor.
hello i have one unit tilt is not working thinking the motor is shot. is there a way i can turn off the tilt or unplug it to make it not activate on its own?
I have a problem with an elation platiun beam(like the ones u have boxed) lamp strikes but turn off after a second motors reset, this one time it would turn for a few minutes then the lamp will go off, i try it at home and it works fine. I had taken for service a few times, they change ballasters twice the lamp is only at 600hrs life. Any help would be aprecited
If you mean it doesnt work when at venue and works fine at home I'd be looking at the temp sensor in the head. If you have it sat on a desk in your home the heat will rise but in flown conditions ambient heat collects inside the heat.
@@giglight thats what I was thinking. but as the sun set it got colder and samething will keep happening. motors reset, strike for a min then when stars to get brighter and motors reset a second time(not sure if thats normal)it won restrike.. and stay off permantly. I olso start the fixture with lamp off then after motors reset for second time I turn on the lamp fron the fixture controlls, it turn on and went off after a few minutes. i was certain i had a bad lamp but as mentioned, i got home and worked just fine... olso i check all fans were runing just fine
@@ladjkaoz not familiar with elation stuff but on Martin kit you have a lamp off on dmx signal loss. The lamp not coming back on after it goes out is normal they are not hot re strike lamps they need to cool before they will lamp on again. Keep resetting itself could also be a bad signal being sent to it. If it's at the venue not plugged in to anything other than power how does it behave?
@@giglight im aware that discharge lamps won restrike hot after. thats why I let it go thru the reset proces lamp off. and once it had reset i turn on the lamp but only turn on for a short time. I guess it maybe a fan or as you mention a temp sensor but all fans spin fine and sensors? I dont know how to test them. I plan on switching parts Power supply control moduel, but as i said when i got home it worked fine. this is the 2 or 3 time it does this. elation change ballester last time...but it did it again...
I have a question about GrandMA on my surface pro 4. Why can't i press the TEMP buttons properly? Is there any other way of using my toutchscreen for lighting control besides sliders?
not sure, I never use temp buttons on screen because the nature of them is more suited to the buttons on a midi controller in my opinion. sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Good afternoon, I bought a new lamp for my moving head to think that it was from the lamp that did not light. With this lamp lights but the light that gives is weak. I measured the voltage between the ignitor wire N and the igniter L by disconnecting the wire from the ignitor to make the measurement and gave 230 volts or the ballast is good ? Ignitor link imgur.com/a/3QmXcTZ ballast link imgur.com/a/zAjw20j
Lamps are run in constant current mode. Current may vary with the voltage changing little. Need a DC amp clamp to measure the lamp current. If old an new lamp are running low current, and the voltage selection is correct, the ballast is not providing the correct current. Check the current spec for the lamp for the actual expected current. Weak light can be dirty optics, damaged reflector, Lamp position incorrect, sticking shutter, etc if the lamp and lamp current are OK.

You don't get them for free, you pay for them...
@@awareness5014 What? No. Why would anyone give those expensive fixtures away for free?
Trippy Hazzard I’m sure you were.
They are cool and all untill you get to clean them...

Having the same issue, it just shuffles. Did you find the problem?
hi I have two platinum spot 5r by elation and have a tilt error on both units. what do I do to get these fixed. where is the magnet or sensor at ?
sensor is in the arm.
What about the magnet
everything is in the arm
Ok thanks
what's your location? head me up if you run into some elation platinum beam extreme like the one in those white boxes you have back there...😁

Really unreliable
I have a question about GrandMA on my surface pro 4. Why can't i press the TEMP buttons properly? Is there any other way of using my toutchscreen for lighting control besides sliders?
Because holding down with your finger registers as a right click by default on surface pro 4.
Yeah i turned that off, but i need to click 2 times on the temp button before it works. Even though i don't need to do that for normal Go buttons.
not sure, I never use temp buttons on screen because the nature of them is more suited to the buttons on a midi controller in my opinion. sorry I couldn't be of more help.

anything that sends notes as control info
