What if the Papal States UNITED Italy in 1849?

- I believe that if the Papal States united Italy, then Austria would get to keep Lombardy-Veneto, which is quite important. This means that Austria is unlikely to lose the brothers war of 1866, as in our timeline Italy joined so they can get these lands.
As a result, if Prussia loses against Austria, then the Franco-Prussian war would not happen, so Napoleon III would remain in charge of France and Germany will not form, so this video changes quite a lot! When it comes to the Apennine Peninsula, having the Papal States control the country would also change quite a lot.

What if the Two Sicilies unified Italy
Fun fact: this almost happened in 1859. At the peace of Zürich, after the Second Italian War of Independence, in the article 18 of the treaty, there is written that the Emperor of France and the Emperor of Austria must favour the creation of a Confederation of Italian States under the Pope, which would include Austrian Venice and have a standing federal army. This however never materialised because, for it to happen, the revolutionary government which deposed the rulers of Tuscany, Modena and Parma as well as the Papal governors of Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna and Forlì, should've been dissolved and the old rulers and governors brought back to power, however nobody tried to dissolve that new revolutionary state and a few months later it joined the Kingdom of Sardinia Piedmont, therefore ensuring that Italy would unite under a unitary monarchy.

What if Africa was handled the American way? (According to History Matters, America suggested that the major rivers be considered "free trade zones" with the right of missionaries to proselytize as well. I don't know how this would look like if it happened though).

Basically chat gets to chose where the country will be, its name, its ideology, it’s flag and stuff like that. Afterwards they’d have to see how long they could keep a stable country before collapse. You could also just do chat controls a country in millennium dawn.

If Italy and France send generals or something, strategically cutting off the main army when they push in, then yes. If they're unable to or don't realize their mistake then, never. Prussia's win was still decisive and a major victory. After all, that doesn't changes the fact of Prussia still having the Dreyse Rifle as a huge advantage.

@@rewriting-history Weapon support won't change the incompetent army. And France didn't had the Chassepot yet to counter the Dreyse, so militarically Prussia is still better off. Not to mention Prussia could also gain support from Britain (unlikely.. if it were to protect the balance), and Russia (to have a counter against Austria).
But I guess it makes a better video like that :)

As an Italian, it was a Good video, although the Papal States was a pain in the ass for us. An idea for the next video: what if two sicilies did the thing? The kingdom was the richest and strongest militarily, with cannons, ships, gunpowder and men. Their coins wre made with gold in them. This kingdom had a HUGE chance of doing it.

day 1 of asking please make a what if the US enterede the german side isntead of the british on 1917 (btw in this cenario italy will still join france/british side on 1915) do you think this would prevent germany to lose or will they still lose how much different the war would change if the US joined germany side idk if this cenario is unrealistic
That would incredibly strengthen the germans. When anything stays the same until 1917 and then the US enters, they could probably not directly contest the British navy but if their forces land on German or Austrian lands and move to the west front (after Russia capitulated) then Germany would gain a lot of resources and probably have enough men to successfully do their last offensive onto Paris, possibly ending France.
Maybe I'm also just too optimistic, but that's a problematic topic.

@@rubenfigueiredo4229 It's atleast possible. The british can still blockade the Central Powers, Canada however might fall to them though, even if they can't help Germany, etc.
But in the end, the US might annex Canada and the Central powers treaty might be mediated by them.

This can be debated. Even if this is right, then nothing changes in terms of world history, just Italy is green on the map. I have to make something to make the video divert from our history.
I think the most unrealistic part of the self-admitted unrealistic stuff would be Britain joining a crusade against the Ottomans just because His Holiness declared one. It's as though Richard Lionheart himself was back on the throne and overruled Britain's usual notion of using the Ottomans to counterbalance Russia.

Nice video, very well thought out, but I honestly think that it would never have happened that the Italian irredendists would have agreed to give up Italian-speaking territories such as Istria, Dalmatia and Trentino so easily, especially in a timeline where they won against Austria, at the same time, in my opinion, the Pope would hardly have pulled out of the scramble for Africa giving up on evangelizing those territories but rather the Catholic nations would have given more territories such as Tunisia to ingratiate themselves with the Pope and rather than a confederation, agreements would have been made for a federation which by definition is much more unitary after all that was what the Italians wanted and finally I don't think that the Habsburg-Este and the Habsburgs of Tuscany would have remained because of the distrust of the Italians especially thinking back to moments like when Francis I of Tuscany gave a large part of the Florentine works of art to Emperor Ferdinand I, making enemies of the city.Aside from these details the video is quite realistic and accurate

I dont think thta prussia would lose in the brothers war bc Italy fought rly bad and prussia at the time had an technologucal edge(they used the "Zündnadelgewehr"=needle gun or Dreyse gun which at the time nobody used and which was only integrated in the other european armies after the war) and far better trained soldiers.

@@rewriting-history Well, ww1 *could* be altered.. but if the pope stays in power, Germany would maybe find France, Italy and Austria unite in a tri-partie against them. Britain and Russia would then likely support the germans for the reason that Russia wasn't happy of Austria and Britain would (if, even) to remain a balance of power. Meaning the three powerhouses will very likely win. Yes it doesn't changes anything up before WW1 (aside the mentioned Crusade, etc.). How it would then look is hard to tell, but that's how I see it.

I think it would be very likely for Austria to try and form Germany by themselves under their identity. Maybe even abandon Hungary and "Illyria" and turn to a greater German "Catholic" Confederation under the Habsburgs in such a timeline. But that's just a little idea. ;)

I think Prussia Should have gotten less in the scramble for Africa as in this scenario they are not a great power
I really doubt Prussia would be defeated in the Austro-Prussian war, since the Prussian army was MUCH BETTER than the Austrian one, and besides, the Italians performed very poorly in that war, and another, it was Prussia who ended the war, not Italy, The Prussians could very well arrive in Vienna in our reality, but Bismarck refused, It makes no sense for Prussia to lose this war, even without Italy as an ally
I agree as I may have overlooked it, but I think the way I went made for a FAR more interesting scenario. Still in the video I made France and Italy support Austria, so it was very much possible.
Austria have no chance against Prussia even whit Italy and France support Prussia gonna smash Austria. Prussia has the strongest Military by far the only way for Prussia to lose the Austrian Prussian is when France joins directly the war no other chance. And Italy was very weak at the time and was not Importen for the Austrian Prussian war because there was so weak
I think it's a bit too much for Prussia to take Italy, France, and Austria at the same time. On top of that, if Austria were starting to lose, France would enter Prussia through their shared border and destroy them.
I find it nigh impossible that Italian nationalists would accept the loss of Milan if not Venice. Edit: I am pretty sure the Pope was not inherently opposed to a Parliament since he allowed one. His problem was the fact a murder went unmentioned.
