John, as a mere 75 year-old I find myself drawn more and more to songs that are a poignant reminder of the need, as you say, to ‘get out of bed’ and embrace every moment. This song (sung with a pure voice that belies your age) certainly does that, while bestowing gratitude on your carers. I have subscribed, and look forward to exploring your back catalogue while awaiting further new songs you may have, before you (as all of us will) become one with the elements. I’m smiling as I write this, thanks to your gift for sharing the most personal of journeys, in such a joyous way.
John, I forgot to add to my previous comment … I was totally absorbed by your account of chatting with a sad Bob Dylan back in 1964, who had just penned a song about the intense pain he felt because his companion Suze Rotolo had just left him. (And then him SINGING it to you!) But the icing on the cake was when you then sang for us, with the emotion of a man who has truly lived, that very same song: ‘Tomorrow Is A Long Time’
John, as song writers, you and I continually strive for emotional connections arrived at with an economy of words. With that said, I give you my comment about this song. "Amen" !
I've always admired your optimism. and now, more than ever, I'm delighted that you still can make me smile. As you know, I once worked for a not-for-profit hospice; you've produced a wonderful commercial for them.
Amazing song, John, at this stage of your life, in hospice care, to find music in the rhythms of everyday life, and to have such gratitude for your caregivers. It’s simply miraculous.
that is a wonderful tribute to caretakers. may the wind blow you my way one day for inspiration & confirmation that in the end the good guys do win. be well. mind yourself.
Back in the 1960s a checkup phrase was to "Dig your self" I am reminded of that Mantra by your comments and thank you for that. Here's a Leonard Cohen song "Everybody Knows" with an added coda for the 21st century I think it's in the spirit. .th-cam.com/video/yLgxbeBZQkw/w-d-xo.html
