      Well that is actually the idea. Probably not all in one go, but over the coming months I hope to do most of the parts to a full suit or at least a solid partial suit in this theme, and others in the future

    Hey Folks! It's really great to finally be producing content for our fans, old and new. I'm just now learning how to shoot and edit videos so I'm totally open to input on how I can improve. I've got a lot of videos planned for this year but I'll be doing some fan requests along the way as well so make your voice heard if there's something you really want to learn about, or a project theme I should make a tutorial for, or any questions and I might do some Q&As too.

    I've been making small leatherworking projects for a few years now, gradually moving up to full armor. I'm definitely going to be making a helmet now, and I think I'll attempt snaps (which is so frustrating in fabric I can't even imagine it in leather). Thank you so much for this video, it was really awesome to watch, and the end result is beautiful!

    • @Princearmory

    Thank you for taking the time to show the steps and processes involved. The editing for speeding up, cutting out once the audience has a good idea of a step, and audio was very well done. I especially appreciate your break down of the tools, materials, and equipment involved from the crafting to the tech. Very glad to have seen this come across the front page and happily subscribing to see what else you create! Thank you for sharing the video.

    I used to work at Tandy ages ago in my home state of KY before the store shut down. Leather work is therapeutic, and I must say the inclusions of the 'mistakes' really sets this video to the highest standard of "it will happen, you can't avoid it" Bravo! and Simple Beautiful Helmet.

    TH-cam randomly recommended me one of your videos. I'm not into cosplay or LARPing but I play a lot of video games so I can appreciate finely crafted pieces of armor -- and the stuff you make are exquisite! You are very talented. Can't really support by buying patterns or whatnot (they'll be wasted on me LOL) but I've since subscribed to this channel and shared your videos to everyone I thought might appreciate them.

    I love this. I just wish I had access to leatherworking tools in some fashion without just having to commit to buying into the hobby completely without any idea of knowing whether or not I will actually like it. This is super awesome though and you do a really wonderful job making this not just look easy but possible for anyone to learn.

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been teaching apprentices for years and these are designed exactly for the purpose of teaching people while still being interesting and cool. And I am deliberately making them approachable for those without a lot of tools. You don't even have to tool it. All you need is a hammer and something to cut with and you can make this helmet if you get some leather.

    Lovely work, always liked the look of leather-craft.
    The video is well thought out, Good descriptive talk through, although I would probably shorten some parts like the paper cutting, and all the bevelling, we don't need to see examples of every piece done, it just makes the video longer and I found that I skipped parts.

      The one thing left-handed people may want to know is that using right-handed scissors will scuff up your top edges and points because blade closest to the edge pushes down and not up like it is using them right-handed. It almost drove me crazy because my edges were ugly. I fixed it by using a box cutter or letting my right-handed wife cut them out.
      Thank you for the inspiration. I have started making your spaulders as my first ever leatherworking project.

    Yo this has been SUPER helpful and has given me dozens of idea's about how to go about my current piece of cosplay (doing the helmet soon).
    Just one criticism to give, whenever you're speaking in the video, could you maybe just lower the volume of the music just a wee bit? 41:00 It might just be me, but this was a part in the video where I had trouble hearing you half of the time due to the music being so loud. I mean, the music choice was great and very enjoyable, but I very much prefer your voice and being able to understand what you are trying to say.
    Again, thanks for doing this!
    Edit: Oh, and I instantly subbed, not for the free pattern because I think I missed it, but just for future content. Thanks!
    Edit 2: I just realized you've already been told this by other people so I assume that the whole criticism remark wasn't necessary. On a side note, saw your portfolio on your website, and my jaw just dropped. It all looks SOOOO GOOOD. Just wanted to say that. :)

    • @Princearmory
      @Princearmory  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great, glad it helped. Hope to get more videos out soon. And yes, the audio levels thing was an accident. What actually happened was part of my voice recording was too loud at the start so I lowered the whole track a bit and I think I missed adjusting parts of the music as well.

    at 42:50 I have had full-blown panic attacks from snaps doing this. Think it's completely set and "boom" the little stinker just pops off. What I do is use the bigger line 24 setter first but only give it a light smack. This starts the doming of the inside piece. Then I switch to line 20 setter to drive it home. Works wonders. Trial and error is a huge part of Leatherworking.

    • @maxcabrera9775
      @maxcabrera9775 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya its really confusing bc you can't meet everyone wants. You just have to stick with what YOU thinks is right for your channel. Another option is to do a mix of both. You can have the long videos like this one but then you can have 10-15minute-ish tutorial videos on the one subject that you are talking about. That way if people want to watch a long video they have the option and if people want to watch a shorter video they also have that option. Also having some shorter videos will make it easier on you for the editing side of things since the videos won't require quit as much work. Thank you for responding and have a good day!!

    Great stuff Prince, leather is definitely a medium I love but lack the knowledge to work. However I've made several items using EVA foam, the patterns are similar so in that aspect I believe I could make this, but at the moment I also lack the tools for working leather but could definitely use EVA foam for practice, I love how you glob the ink or dye on the leather to get that marbleized color effect,
    with the light & darker tones.
    Looks beautiful Prince, Im also an artist who likes to draw & create things from wood, EVA foam & other mediums who knows leather may be my next medium to add to my attributes Im kinda a Renaissance man Prince anything in the art of creating attracts my attention.
    But love your work & the presentation of your videos,
    I'll sure be awaiting more :)

      This pattern would 100% work in EVA! You may have to adjust a little for the thickness of the foam, but definitely usable! A lot more of the techniques used in foam smithing are transferable to leather than many people may initially realize. :D
