I bought the pattern and my glasses turned out awesome! Thanks! A few things I did to make it easier: To make the head screws instead of cutting them I applied heat to the end of a flat blade screwdriver and touched it to the screw heads. This made an instant mark and looks perfect. I used "Plasti-Dip" spray to rubberize my entire goggle. Awesome product and if you get black, you do not have to paint! Just paint and rub and you're done!
My daughter and I bought your combo pack of patterns and started making the goggles. What fun! We had a bit of trouble with the glue on the skinny edges, ended up using super glue for those, but otherwise it's coming along great! Will post pics when completed. Your videos are fun and entertaining and give great info. Well done!
I just want to thank you for this tutorial. It was really helpful when I made mine out of leather. I'm amazed by your level of creativity and your painting techniques. Stay awesome!
Awesome! Your Steampunk glasses are better than sliced bread, toilett paper and definitely better than heavy welding glasses! Watching your video on Steampunk Goggles solved a number of my "creative" problems! Brilliant! I like to make things, too:-) But I'm overseas, so I can't always get the stuff needed for some projects. Fun Foam! Who would have thought... Thanks for sharing and offering your pattern (I sent you an email about paying via PayPal) Thanks again!!!
Hi Patricia, I am honoured that I got to help solve some creative problems! I sent you a reply to your email, if you didn't get it, let me know:) Cheers.
I flippin LOVE your tutorials. Not only are they well made so that even I can make them, they are hysterical to boot. I dig your sense of humor. Thanks for the awesomeness.
I made this along with the top hat to wear to a carnaval party at my school and everyone loved it! Unfortunately the pattern wasn't available where I live so I had to try it by heart... I also found some reaaaally big round blue sunglasses and used them for the goggles! They turned out really pretty!
I've seen a few of your videos now and I'm dying to try them out with my nieces. You are wonderfully creative. Thank you for sharing it with the world! I'll let you know how our projects turn out.
Here's a response to Iris, First, I can't post a reply to your comment unless you change your google plus settings. Go to Google plus settings, open Google account settings, Where it says "who can click on your public posts" change it to "anyone" That would be awesome! The Diameter of the lens I used is 48mm. Cheers.
Here's a reply to Brume Novembre. First, I can't post a reply to your comment unless you change your google plus settings. Go to Google plus settings, open Google account settings, Where it says "who can click on your public posts" change it to "anyone" That would be awesome! O.K., I added the liquid latex to make the nosepiece stronger, however, you could also use white glue to make it stronger, and then you don't need the liquid latex.
Hole punch idea....genious!! Please post some more videos of cool steampunk items! Steampunk belt, jewelry, mech arm, cool cuffs, gloves, wall art, table pieces, etc... thnx!!! I never fully attempted a steampunk themed item because i felt i didnt have the necessary materials (brass/copper/other shiny metal pieces, wires, mesh....and a lot of tutorials require special glue/paint/gloss/glaze that i wouldnt even know where to buy). Your vids are simple and use basic items yet turn out amazing! Eagerly awaiting more vids =D
Rememer your Steampunk Top Hat Tutorial? I was actually thinking about making a pair of goggles and a book for a steampunk-loving friend with that 'patched up metal' theme (will start as soon as I get some lenses for the goggles), but this is quite awesome too. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing tutorial, as always. Funny, you look just like a really talented stock photographer named Konrad Bak. I did a double-take. Your tutorials are really inspirational.
Another great tutorial - excellent value! I'll add this to my mountain of partially-completed projects, which is 'topped' by two of your hats. Very best wishes to you and your family.
this is still my fav tutorial of yours! i discovered your channel from this video a long time ago and i actually made my own goggles a few months ago! i was so proud! 🙄
Oh god I've only seen two of your videos, but I've noiticed 3 things. 1 they are useful, 2 they are awesome, 3 you are hillarious. Thank you for making this! (sorry if I mispelled anything, english isn't my first language)
This was a fun way to make goggles! I took a few liberties with the design. Mostly I just used hot glue instead of all the other adhesives. Also I used some paper fasteners instead of little hole punched circles. Instead of using liquid latex I used Elmer's glue because I did not want to wear them and have to worry about people's allergies.
I love those goggles, you are amazing at what you do lost wax. But I do have a question, what would say to someone who has never created anything like the goggles or the top hat...or well anything steampunk before like me and really want to but worried that the projects will turn out completely wrong in the end? I'm sorry for the run on and blabbering question, but thank you for your time.
Lizzy Sanders I say, go for it! I do lots of projects that turn out to be complete failures, but I always learn something from trying them. The only way to get good at something is to start doing it:) If I were you I would probably start with the top hat, and expect to make 2 of them. The first one to make all your mistakes on, and the second to look awesome!
Hey everyone a quick helpful tip! When making a notch for the screws at 2:16, you don't really need to a really sharp blade simply use a solider tip and draw a line and that's it ! it will melt a perfect thin line with perfection :)
Hello, I will like to say this is such an amazing tutorial and thank you for sharing it with us! I will be using this to make my Horuss cosplay. Thanks once again! :)
Thank you for the great videos and patterns! As a blogger and Etsy artisan, I love being able to support fellow makers. We're about to have some very cool photo props thanks to your work. =)
It's amazing how creative you are ! Thank you for sharing your experience and ideas. I'd share it with some friends, and all of them think your work is really great. Perhaps one day I'll send some creations made with your patterns ! ( A french fan so sorry for my english ;) )
+Lost Wax nope I found a brownish/gold plastic bottle from a ice team Switzerland mark and it is a little bit transparent so that will be perfect lets so it !
Amazing design, Lost Wax! The goggles are just what I've been looking for. But, can you include in your future videos that we have to pay for the PDF files? Just a bit disappointed, cause I'm broke. Thanks, though!!
Hi Chris :) I want to know if you had problems after wearing this goggles. I mean...Do the paint let a black mark in your forehead or your hair if you sweat or maybe if you are inside a very hot place?
Manuel de lasHeras Garrido Good question, I have personally only worn them on top of a top hat, so I haven't had a problem obviously. If you use the latex rubber, it shouldn't leave a black mark, but if you use acrylic paint, I have heard that some people have had the paint leave a mark from the top hat project. If you are going to be wearing them for an extended time, I would probably recommend a clear acrylic coat of paint to seal it all and create a barrier from the black paint.
Could wire be added to the nosepiece to make it stiffer? Maybe by sandwiching it between the foam and the yarn. This is a great steampunk project. I didn't know something this cool could be made from foam!
Thank yo for posting some really good and interesting info :) love everything about spectacles and I cant wait to re-create some of my own. I will of course check out your blog and support
Nice tutorial, I think same goggles but more sturdy might be chieved just as easy with PVC pipe washers and actual screws though? What do you think? I try to avoid foam, it deteriorates faster
I like the overall design, but the paint could be a bit more shiny. Maybe add some copper or shiny brass paint to some of the details like the little pipes to make them pop. it would make it look a lot nicer.
Im one of thos people who can't pay for things by themselves so Im going to have to make my own template, but this SO FREAKING AMAZING OH MY GOD In our school we have to dress as a story character and I'm dressing up as one of my own characters, who has goggles xD This really helped Thanks!
art cid I got got the liquid latex in Australia, but if you look for costume making supplies, you should find it. Or as an easier option, you can just use white glue on the nosepiece.
So I just thought of using JB Weld liquid instead of 2 part epoxy. Same idea: 2 part adhesive that sets up fairly quickly, but it already comes in metallic colors because it's steel reinforced liquid welding bonding agent. Apply after painting for a contrast rivet!
Hey everyone, you can check out my current favourite paints and supplies on my Amazon page (affiliate link) www.amazon.com/shop/lostwax
I bought the pattern and my glasses turned out awesome! Thanks! A few things I did to make it easier:

Hi Chris, just thought I'd let you know that I have had great success using your pattern with leather offcuts instead of foam 😄😄😄
My daughter and I bought your combo pack of patterns and started making the goggles. What fun! We had a bit of trouble with the glue on the skinny edges, ended up using super glue for those, but otherwise it's coming along great! Will post pics when completed. I like how you throw everything down without a care lol
Your voice is so calming for some reason
Hope I didn't put you to sleep with my calming voice:)
Awesome!
Your Steampunk glasses are better than sliced bread, toilett paper and definitely better than heavy welding glasses!

Oh bless you for this, watching it go together is SO helpful as prep for making these.
You're welcome! And just so you know, the liquid latex is really not necessary, I just use regular acrylic paints now:)
I flippin LOVE your tutorials. Not only are they well made so that even I can make them, they are hysterical to boot. I dig your sense of humor. Thanks for the awesomeness.
Cheryl Land Thanks for the encouraging comment. Makes my day:)
I made this along with the top hat to wear to a carnaval party at my school and everyone loved it! Unfortunately the pattern wasn't available where I live so I had to try it by heart... I also found some reaaaally big round blue sunglasses and used them for the goggles! They turned out really pretty!
Thats cool.
I don't personally care for the steampunk aesthetic but your stuff is STILL rad.
I've seen a few of your videos now and I'm dying to try them out with my nieces. You are wonderfully creative. Thank you for sharing it with the world! I'll let you know how our projects turn out.

This is awesome! I've been looking for diy goggles to make a steamy Fallout cosplay. Makes for a subtle flare. Might pin them to my wig.

Hehe, yeah, I guess I kinda do. I could be his stunt double!
Another great tutorial - excellent value! I'll add this to my mountain of partially-completed projects, which is 'topped' by two of your hats. Very best wishes to you and your family.
Thank you! Much appreciated:)
I can't believe how fricking amazing this is. I might just do the top hat and goggles as a low-key halloween costume. We'll just see, won't we..
Incredible! *-*

You are awesome! I'm trying to make an cool end of the world steampunk video and with your tips.
Indie Charted Sweet, I'd love to see it when you're done.
This was a fun way to make goggles! I took a few liberties with the design. Mostly I just used hot glue instead of all the other adhesives. It looks so real!!! You are amazing!!!

Dude these are amazing
At 5:50 in the lenses of the goggles, you can see all of your filming stuff. This is not an insult though. I love your videos!
I'm thinking of making the top hat, and then making this as the band around it, kind of like the goggles in the picture you have of the top hat.
thank you! This is so helpful for a cosplay I'm working on !
Excellent !
Bonne idée 👍
Superbe travail manuelle 👍
You're awesome,Thank you,now I know what to wear at Comic Con 2014 Romania!Thank You!
i made these goggles! they are awesome!
+macabre_laughter I have had someone use plastic from a pop bottle, said it worked well.
I wish I had a pair of round black broken sunglasses for the glass in the middle cause I haven't got. :/
Apparently it works to use a plastic pop bottle. THough then Your lenses will be clear or green:)
+Lost Wax nope I found a brownish/gold plastic bottle from a ice team Switzerland mark and it is a little bit transparent so that will be perfect lets so it !
Saturday project okay I'm ready let's go
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!
Just wish the pattern was free lol

Yeah, you probably could add wire or a thin metal strip. Also I have been told that using white glue works as well.
Thank yo for posting some really good and interesting info :) love everything about spectacles and I cant wait to re-create some of my own. I will of course check out your blog and support
Very impressive! Thank you for uploading this video. :)
Smart idea cool invention but did you cut the wires off of your weed cutter
Nice tutorial, I think same goggles but more sturdy might be chieved just as easy with PVC pipe washers and actual screws though? What do you think? I try to avoid foam, it deteriorates faster
PHISHNET CREATIVE TEAM Sure, give it a go. It's all about coming up with new ways to do things!
I have real authentic ones I got from my uncle's old workshop I know surprisingly wear them whenever I'm doing an experiment
also to cut the lenses, you could ge tthe rough shap and then finish it off via sanding, weather with a belt sander or by hand
This is an awesome find.... thank you!!!!
these rock!!! i love them thank you soo much you rock man!!!
I like the overall design, but the paint could be a bit more shiny. Maybe add some copper or shiny brass paint to some of the details like the little pipes to make them pop. it would make it look a lot nicer.
Its gorgeous!

Olá Chris achei muito legal o tutorial de como fazer esse óculos e fiz um pra mim, parabéns você tem um seguidor brasileiro.
This channel is hilarious I don't even know
Oh no... I forgot to leave enough room for a mustache.
Everything is ruined.
Always watch the entire video first, then you wont make stupid mistakes like that again ;)
I like to make things too ......you are awesome!!!!
You are amazing!!!!
So I just thought of using JB Weld liquid instead of 2 part epoxy. Same idea: 2 part adhesive that sets up fairly quickly, but it already comes in metallic colors because it's steel reinforced liquid welding bonding agent. Apply after painting for a contrast rivet!
