I thought I recognized you! I actually discovered the LPii through your videos! Your reviews are what sold me. Thanks for the encouragement brother! I certainly plan to, LORD willing. ;)
It seems like the 2 is great. Has phone receiving and sending, messaging, GPS, music, podcasts. Just what you need from a phone. The 3 seems like it’s a closer step in ease of use. Better performance, easier texting, camera, picture sending, flashlight, etc. They both serve somewhat different purposes, and I’m glad they’re not viewing the III as a direct upgrade for the II, just a different option that will continue to be updated as it’s own separate product.
The Light Phone III was announced a few days ago and It looks like it addresses all of the issues that kept me from buying the Light Phone II. Which was primarily the E-ink screen and the lack of a camera. I am seriously considering buying it. Right now I’d rather be sitting on my porch drinking coffee before work than leaving a comment on a TH-cam video but I am unable to control that impulse. Nonetheless, I appreciate that you made this video. More people need to speak out about the harm of smartphone addiction.
I saw it, and contrary to popular opinion amongst us "senior Light Phone ii users," I actually like the concept. I'm personally going to stick with the 2, but I appreciate that they are lowering the bar and making it easier for new people to ditch their smartphones without throwing out the original vision. I don't think a camera and an OLED screen adds any distraction, as some would accuse. I do think the final market price is kinda insane, but as long as you preorder it I think it's definitely worth $399. Thanks for the comment, friend. Trust me, I know that the impulses feel uncontrollable. But know that the phone you hold does that to you by design. The manufacturers DESIGNED it that way to exploit you. Your time is their money. However, there is an alternative. And I can guarantee if you do decide to go down this dumb phone road, that it will be hard, but completely worth it. ;) May Yahweh be with you!
@@burntheboxes I agree that $800 is a bit steep for the functionality Light Phone III provides but when you consider that it has an OLED screen, a 50MP camera, a processor capable of driving both, and that it will sell in lower volumes than a comparably specced Android phone, the $400 pre-sale price is probably what it cost to manufacture the phone. Their press release indicates that the final price may come down if they meet certain pre-sale thresholds so I hope a lot of people jump on the $400 pre-order before ends in July.
@@kgeo753 Interesting! I didn't see the specs so that's good to know. Honestly as weird as it is, my favorite part is the accessible battery compartment. I felt that longevity was a major weak point in the current models, as I would have to buy a brand new phone if the battery dies.
@@burntheboxesabsolutely. Similar to older vs modern cars. Older ones are more customer-fixable. Newer ones you gotta pay someone (usually affiliated with the car company) to fix it. Great addition.
Love the video man. I have a light phone 2 and have struggled to use it for more than a couple days. I always find an excuse to go back to my iPhone because I think I may miss something. It is strange the grip that these phones have on our lives. I am going to switch my SIM card again and commit to at least 2 weeks. I’m going to work through the uncomfortable moments because I do need to “cut off my right hand” so to speak. I don’t like google and social media tracking everything we do either.
Thanks for the encouragement, brother. I won't lie and say it isn't hard, but take heart, it is completely worth it. Though you may lose some convenience, in my experience, you gain everything else. I hope you stick with it man! May Yahweh be with you. :)
Well done, Chase! You are definitely an example that you CAN live without a smartphone glued to your hand. Proud of your decision to break away and stick with it, through the help of the Holy Spirit!
Thanks for sharing! I've definitely been feeling the bad effects of getting a phone and I appreciate how you said that nothing is more costly than our own souls. I also like how you said, "does it glorify our Lord?" This is definitely something to think about.
Thanks for watching, brother, and for your honesty! I know how hard it is, especially today. I had dealt with its effects and temptations for many years. But take heart! Where there is temptation and sin, the LORD always gives us a way of escape. (1 Cor 10:13) Though, most of the time, at least in my experience, it's not the exit we want to take. Be blessed, dear friend, and praise Yahweh!

@@burntheboxes thanks! it’s holding up great. Battery life seems like it’s either progressively gotten better recently or optimized better. Either way mine is in great shape. I pre-ordered the new Light Phone III recently as well, not sure if you saw that! Only problem I’ve ran into is the lack of a camera at all times, so that seemingly solves the issue.
@@CropdusterMiller Oh nice! That was the biggest worry I had with mine. That's one thing I really appreciate about the Light Phone III is the ability to change the battery should it die. With care that thing should last you a lifetime. Can't wait to see what the pictures look like on the III as well!
@@burntheboxes I am quite excited too for pictures on it!! They said it should act more like a point and shoot camera than a smartphone one. Considering Light is such a consumer friendly company as well, with one's own care and their care, these Light Phones are truly built to last man.
@@CropdusterMiller That's what I like about the company, is how much they care about their customer base and providing the highest quality products they can. Even the screen protectors are better than Apple's (from personal experience haha).
Good concept hardware. The problem though is that it can be done through software via the smartphones we already have, where you can just download an app that restricts to bare down what the light phone can do.
Well true, and that could definitely work for some people, but for me I would find myself eventually just turning the app restrictions off and going back to normal, since I literally had the password. But, if you have the discipline, by all means go that way. Saves you from buying a new phone. Good to see you man. Hope to see you around!

Everytime I consider switching over to a dumb phone my mind automatically races to remind me of the different "conveniences" that I'll miss out on. It's good you're thinking about that, as you certainly do have to count the costs. It does involve great loss. But, if we are not willing to experience great loss, we will never be capable of experiencing greater gain. It really just comes down to priorities and desires. Also, nowadays, there are even more options to choose from, a few that I think do support WhatsApp. But they are a lot pricier. You'll just have to do a little research and find what works best for your situation. But, if you want to just put it on trial, you can't beat $300 for the Light Phone 2. Thank you very much for this wise teaching Chase, well explained with alternative solutions.
