We are grateful to God that you found this documentary beautiful. A good number of Orthodox parishes are becoming more capable of welcoming inquirers and helping them get orientated to services, as it can seem overwhelming. Part of visiting for the first time is simply walking in the door and being present for a service :) Please let us know if we can help at all in finding a community near you.
@@annunciationlancaster thank you. @@maddssmithy Coptic, Syrian, and Ethiopian/Eritrean communities are not in communion with the Eastern Orthodox Church. For your first experiences, a moderator of this account recommends you seek to visit a Greek Orthodox Church under the GOARCH (Greek Orthodox Church in America), an OCA parish (Orthodox Church of America), or a community under the Antiochian Orthodox Church of America. Romanian and Russian Orthodox communities can be very nice to visit as well, but they are often smaller and very ethnically driven, which can be a greater shock for a visitor. Any Greek Orthodox Church which labels themselves under the "Genuine Orthodox Church" or the HOCNA are schismatic communities and not in communion with the Eastern Orthodox Church.
@@annunciationlancaster wow, that's a lot. thank you for the information. Jesus Christ is Lord. Sometimes when the wind is blowing I can smell the fresh air of Mt. Athos. Do you remember the air there? In another lifetime, I was there as a man worshipping Christ. Now in this lifetime as a woman, I am living faraway from there however it is often on my mind as my spiritual earthly home. I am a painter and Jesus is my focus. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It is good that women are not allowed there as too much drama may occur. You have created a beautiful homage to an amazing spiritual center of the world where Jesus is deeply honored.
After a little research I found one in Greece which I will not name, but it is not in communion with the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is a schismatic old calendarist community. Practically speaking it is impossible to do this unless the monastery never allows a priest or any sacraments to take place. A priest must come to serve the sacraments. Many women's monasteries are conscious of the needs of their female pilgrims and will take special caution to only bless overnight male visitors whom they know well and trust, and many parts of women's monasteries are completely off limits to male visitors out of respect and protection of the nuns.
I don’t think a person is supposed to attend more than one Divine Liturgy daily. It is prohibited for a priest to serve more than one Liturgy a day. As laymen, we are also partaking and participating in the Divine Liturgy, it is not some show that goes on without us. And we can only receive holy communion once a day. So truly attending a second Liturgy means we are either going against the canons or we are just watching, onlookers as it is being served, which seems spiritually not beneficial. The Divine Liturgy the the Life of Christ that we partake in. How can we partake of the full cycle of the Life of Christ multiple times a day that makes no sense.
That's correct. The monks don't participate in more than one liturgy a day, nor do they commune more than once a day. It's common for larger monasteries to split up their priests and celebrate liturgies at the same time in the morning at different chapels around the monasteries for a more intimate prayer and for the closeness to the particular saints of the chapels. The monks and visitors are free to go to the chapel they wish, and the typicharist of the monastery assigns usually a chanter or three among the brotherhood for each chapel. That way every priest and deacon of the monastery grows closer in his walk with Christ as he serves the divine liturgy every single day as head celebrant.
Only 1 monastery is in "war" with Patriarch since 1972! Esphigmenou monastery. They suffer a lot until today. For them, Patriarch is not orthodox, is a traitor of Orthodoxy. Many people agree with them.
As a woman I am not allowed to visit the Holy Mountain; thank you so much for sharing your experience.

You 've got the point my sister! With your mind you can travel wherever you want! May the Lady of Holy Mount protect you!

Hi Daniel! 😅

I'm actually curious I know female only monestaries exist but what's the most popular one where only women can go?
CORRECT.
What is the relationship like between the Holy Mountain Monks and the present Patriarch of Constantinople?
Only 1 monastery is in "war" with Patriarch since 1972! Esphigmenou monastery. They suffer a lot until today. For them, Patriarch is not orthodox, is a traitor of Orthodoxy. Many people agree with them.
