    One of the first things I like doing in a new country is to go to the supermarket, not only because I need to eat but I need to see what the cost of basic items are. Santo Domingo isn't the cheapest country I've been in for groceries but the prices are not bad.

    The price for those limes is per pound (lbs). So for $1 you get like 5 or 6 limes.

    I remember the days when I never had to look at the prices,because they were stable,not anymore,I have to watch the prices these days
    Costco is a life saver,it got so bad I couldn't shop at the grocery store no more and Costco was our life saver
    The only thing with Costco,you have to go early to catch a parking space,and don't try to get gas there if not around 10 am❤❤❤❤❤❤

    I work in a supermarket in the USA so I watch people grocery shop around the world to see what foods they are choosing and the prices of they products . I suggest you get an IKEA bag for shopping more items in one place instead of multiple bags.

    One of those shelf stable milks that you picked up was lactose free for those with milk allergies. It is a good idea to buy the long life milk as it does not have to be in the refrigerator until after it is opened.

    Fruits and vegetables are cheeper outside of the supermarket also there are supermarket brands way cheaper and the same good quality: wala brand, olé brand, bravo brand. You'll find everything and cheaper so i usually go to those supermarkets: Olé, Bravo, La sirena and Apresio the two last one owe the wala brand and the others one their respective names: olé brand and bravo brand. So if you move well around you'll save a bunch of money.

    You can compare $1 for $1 because many food and non-food items are imported right? An economy with a currency of little value compared to the US $ that is also importing food will have its citizens paying more $$$. Additionally, in comparison to Caribbean countries, the cost of producing the same items should be similar however Jamaica's currency is so devalued that companies there criminally charge the citizens more in comparison to DR etc. Countries know how much their citizens especially average can afford to pay.

  • @DarkAngelBright

    Wtf why its so expensive 😂😂😂inflation hits DR so bad 😢 still cheaper here in ASEAN 😅 your whole cart 🛒 can cost here maybe 3-4 thousand pesos atleast here in the Philippines 🇵🇭😅

    Why Jamaica grocery store food so expensive,the Chinese own most of the grocery store and control the price of most food products,I try to support black own grocery store because they may show us some mercy on the price of food❤❤❤❤

    • @zndrsmith
      @zndrsmith 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not quite true about the Chinese ownership of grocery stores being the reason why things are so expensive. There is a “get rich quick mentality with many Jamaicans” of all color so they put high mark ups on their products. Then there is the government that charges heavy duty fees on many of the products, and we import most things in Jamaica. We make less things now than 15 years ago, even St. Mary’s banana chips I have seen marked product of the Dominican Republic. If I go shopping from the vendors and they find out I’m not living in Jamaica they jack up the prices. The authorities charge US$25 to get into Dunn’s river falls it should be closer to US$15. This all makes Jamaica one of the most expensive places in the Caribbean

    • @luismanuelreyesRD
      @luismanuelreyesRD หลายเดือนก่อน

      What is interesting Dominican Chinese groceries and shops tend to be cheaper

    • @zndrsmith
      @zndrsmith หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@luismanuelreyesRD For the most part they are also cheaper in Jamaica and in the capital Downtown Kingston if you buy 3 or more of the same items you get them at a wholesale rate. But if you are comparing them to a Pricemart which is a membership store then the Chinese store may work out more expensive but you don’t have a membership fee.
