Rabbit Correct. I'd be tempted to look up what you are & are not allowed to do fencewise. I would then do EVERYTHING that is not expressly forbidden, including say flashing neon lights strung along the top, some wind chimes, a few garden gnomes, facing my neighbors property, a large pile of horse dung. I'd get a yappy dog. Then I'd sell my house to a chapter of Hell's Angels.
Bob Russell You just give me ideas to deal with an insane neighbor I have: he refuses to my proposal of repairing the fence we share and tells me: let it fall. Very well, he gets his wish and I am waiting for the fall..... Recently he has added a rooster and hens in his backyard. I need to get a fake eagle installed on top of the fence we share. I wonder if there is a wifi fake eagle that I can control from my cell. Got to be high tech theses days, you know.
Donna, we salute you. And for the neighbor who has no idea why she did what she did, no-one spends good money on a tall privacy fence unless you’ve given them a reason. I remember a neighbor took issue with a small string of low voltage Christmas lights I tied around our yard bench one year. While we were visiting friends she trespassed onto my property and used scissors to cut them in several places. Amazon helpfully delivered two 200’ high brite flashing strings next day delivery and they went full length of the yard for two months. Well, I mean Christmas ran into New Year, ran into Orthodox Christmas, then it was the run up to Easter … no point in taking them down in between, right?
@ then they could jump pretty high, too. Seriously, though, you don’t know those neighbors. When they first moved in they were great. Friendly, welcoming. But the wife and daughter’s personalities changed a few years later. Both of them became abusive and mean-spirited; started smoking weed. Their married children stopped visiting. And then they started making petty complaints against all of their neighbours. It was like they’d started their own personal HOA. A really fascist HOA. I felt for the husband - he stayed normal, poor guy. So, long story short - on balance of probabilities it wasn’t rabbits (which we’ve never seen in the residential district) but truly insane neighbors.
At least 95% of sane people would find that really obnoxious, which is exactly why she did it. You shouldn't be able to put up a fence (or hedges, FTM) that interferes with a motorist's view of traffic, but beyond that there's no good reason for the government to regulate the fence or for neighbors to whine about it.
Pretty much. My neighbor put in a chain link fence, which I think looks trashy. Instead of complaining to him about it, I just built a wooden fence on my side. Problem solved!
They can build a fence over it, this has an easy fix. In fact in the backyard where its 6' he can build it 10' and do whatever he wants with the paint job, she set the standard.
well there is a law the other side of the fence weathe rit be the persons who put it in she stepped foot on their land to paint it she didnt paint it then put each board up... and i dont blame her the rule is stupid
The height for (opaque or solid) fences becomes an issue when it comes to the sight line for drivers and pedestrians. Hencewhy it is *only in the front that it needs to be only 4 feet tall*. (3 feet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.) As an aside: most cities allow for a 6 footer on the back and on the sides without a permit. (The front sides are limited to 3--4 feet.)
Yea I hate to say it cause I don't wanna side with the man child but she's 100% wrong, she didn't do her research and is throwing a child sized tantrum making her whole block look trashy because she didn't get her way 🎉 we all have to follow city code, this is a women who doesn't hear the word "No" often enough
It’s an aesthetic thing in a lot of places. Not saying it’s not for sight lines in some cases but this fence is set back I don’t think that’s an issue. some cities have HOA like “beautification” rules where they can fine you for various things that look “unsightly”. People just care way too much when people are different. I’m far more concerned about what kind of people live next to me than their design taste. Lol. If it’s a safety issue I get it, but all too often it’s not.
To be fair the reason that there is a hight limit is that it makes it harder for cars to see children if there about to run across the road so it's for safety

Sounds to me like neighbor who complained about the fence hight has a problem with minding their own business. They messed around and found out. They don't want anything obstructing their view of her house/ yard which is why they haven't built their own fence or planted shrubs to hide it.

Looks fine to me. Bright and cheerful. Their neighbors need to find something else to do besides being upset at the presence of cheerful colors. She just needs to add some glitter. LOTS and LOTS of glitter. Then it will be perfect. And if the people on the other side don't like it, they can build a fence of their own alongside it, or they can plant shrubs.
WaterspoutsOfTheDeep have you priced a fence? You’re going to pay $5k just because you don’t like someone else’s fence color. Maybe neighbors should be more friendly from the start!
Harvey Mushman, she seems to have found a loophole. It *IS* technically facing a neighbor. It’s just not facing the one closest to it. *Disclaimer:* this comment is made only in jest. I’m well aware I’m an idiot.
It does depend on the situation. One of my parents' neighbors would have a yard that feels like a box with no sun if we did that to them. The other side of their home is a three floor apartment building. They had politely asked for us to take that into consideration when we first moved in.
i mean, when i eventually own a home, its gonna be a bright orange. and if any complains, I'll just say "orange you glad its not beige?" beige and neutrals are dumb and shouldn't be the primary colours used in painting houses imo
@@ImportsEveryday it looks even worse, to me it looks like she took it apart and cut every bit to size just by hand the worst way you can do just crooked and all that, then build it back up again
The neighbor should look into her rights, since the fence is facing her house she might have the right to paint it. Just like if your neighbors tree hangs over your property you can cut down whatever is on your side. OR who knows the fence just might be an inch over her property AND if it is she can do whatever she wants to it, even tear it down.
I love it how USA always pride themselves with what a free country they are. But the government tells you how high the fence, illegal to harvest rain water in some ares, illegal to go off grid in some arias, they don't give you permit if you want to build a small house (there was a video on youtube about a guy that had to declare it a garage to get the permit ), an opinion on twitter can get you fired and the chance of offending someone whatever you say is keeping people walking on eggshells. Keep it up and you'll get closer to what we experienced in Eastern Europe under socialism.
Margarita Herrera negative. If it’s on her property she can paint it however she likes. They said there was bickering so she put the fence up to kill the fighting more and I’m sure she was smart enough to make sure it was plenty far inside her own property line.
Front yard fences need to be lower so drivers can see clearly down the road when making turns. It is a safety issue and I believe it's more strict with corner lot houses especially.
At some point you have to ask if people still have autonomy over their own property. All the stupid county officials with every inkling to dictate what you can do with your property is obnoxious. Leave people alone.

My neighbor complained that two wheels of my truck were on my grass, ( yes that’s illegal where I live) so I got a warning from the city. The next summer I put the biggest driveway in I could(yes this happened in the middle of winter) this annoyed my neighbor also but I had gotten all the correct permits so it was legal which drove him nuts. I can now park my 4 trucks beside each other on the driveway 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I actually don’t park two of them in the garage some nights just rub it in.
@Wynter Reign Even with dogs you would still need a relatively tall fence to contain them. A neighbor's scenic view should not be your house, which is generally why the fence in the vid was that big to begin with. It's suppose to be tall, otherwise it wouldn't be that way to being with.
@Wynter Reign Four feet is not sufficient for any dog unless it's really small. Dogs can clear 4 feet in a single jump, most others can get over after clasping on to the fence. A house can most definitely block a view. Unless we're talking transparent glass houses, then one of the main points of walls is to obstruct views of what's going on inside, thus preventing what you can see of the other side of the house. That's literally not much different than with a fence. If you have a problem with how other people like to maintain their privacy, then perhaps you should move somewhere else. Or build a tower or whatever makes you happy. But you have to realize that there isn't a problem with what they're doing, it just you.

@@tychoderkommentator2989 I understand the visibility aspect for cars, but in this case, the fence originally ended far enough from the road to allow visibility for cars pulling out. It's so lines of sight aren't broken for drivers backing out or driving the road, tall fences hide kids! It's actually generally to improve visibility on the adjacent road. If your fence is too tall, people on the road can't see you pulling out of your driveway until you're already in the street, and vice versa. There are a lot of dumb rules around fences, but restricting the height of a front yard fence is one of the only ones that makes sense.
I am green visibility pulling out of the driveway is important. That’s why it should be limited on how close to the road you can have the fence. Not how high the fence is around the entire front yard. If you had a large front yard that wouldn’t be right.
@@sharpy3453 If you have a really deep front yard, you can apply for an exception from the local board. In a lot of places, what is the "front yard" is defined by how far from the road it is, so you'd automatically be able to make the fence taller deeper into your yard. For most people living in an area with these kinds of restrictions though, their front yard is only a couple of meters deep, so restricting the height for the whole front yard accomplishes the goal.
Demi Spendlove most towns limit how tall fences can be in the front yard. (Some even ban front yard fences.) It is 100% because of concerns about vehicle traffic safety & pedestrian safety.

The height for (opaque or solid) fences becomes an issue when it comes to the sight line for drivers and pedestrians.
Hencewhy it is *only in the front that it needs to be only 4 feet tall*. (3 feet in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.)

@Wynter Reign Fences are suppose to obstruct views as well, specifically the view of ones house from nosey neighbors.
A crappy neighbor of mine complained our fence was on his property and he threatened to call a surveyor to prove it. I said call them but I’m warning you it’s on our side more(mind u this is after we spent $10k to put new pavers in this was done on purpose). Surveyor came and said u actually have to move the fence more on your own side since it’s past his property line” to my neighbor.I told my neighbor I can make ur life hell but I’m not a crappy neighbor like u and left it as is. Moral of the story if your neighbor is not bothering u leave them alone or u will have a bad neighbor for as long as u live there.
Soo, the woman wanted privacy and built a fence and her nosey neighbor just couldn't have that, huh?
I support the woman. There are too many sick, perverted men around our neighbourhoods preying on sole single women who live next door etc. or women-only households, and these perverted men are getting away with it the world over, because the police and the council / local authority let them away with it. Put the shoe on the other foot. If it was a woman being nosey towards a male neighbour, she would be called all the perverts and depraved beings of the day; she would be stepped on from a very high height by both the police and the council, and likely arrested for whatever form of criminality they could find to charge her with. It makes sense if you live at a cornerhome, since you have to see if any cars are coming by. I guess that the regulation is kept regular for all houseowners in that area, so that cornerhome owners won't get butthurt that only they have to keep a tiny fence.
@@tychoderkommentator2989 ah.. that makes sense! Thanks for the info. :)
I would also add there's probably a safety factor in it. It's much easier to see if a stranger is trying to get in your neighbor's house when they're not home if the fence is 4 feet.
@@tychoderkommentator2989 I understand the visibility aspect for cars, but in this case, the fence originally ended far enough from the road to allow visibility for cars pulling out. The neighbor's tall plants (about the length of the original fence) actually goes out closer to the end of the driveway than where this woman's fence is placed... In this scenario, the neighbors are kind of just being jerks and is using the law against her to achieve the look they want. Obviously, this backfired for them though (from what we saw in the video) lol
It's so lines of sight aren't broken for drivers backing out or driving the road, tall fences hide kids! They dart out to get a ball and boom tragedy, especially where cars are parked as drivers cross over limiting visibility, thus laws were written not allowing enclosed over 4ft fencing on the street side of homes. I get that it wasn't all the way up however those laws are written as to not leave any doubt, so any fencing from the moment the house starts must be a certain height or they'll b in court arguing subtleties way to often

We’re all gonna die someday, so who cares if somebody paints their fence or has a tall fence? People are ridiculous.
Imagine having a limit on how tall your fence can be, just because people are nosey.
@@tissuepaper9962 yeah but for the whole front yard is a bit much if its a big yard, i could see 15ft.
