I always announce the name of the person who ask for it at the begenning and at the end of the song... just to make sure that everybody will look at that person because the had stop dancing for his song ;) so funny!

You are not obligated to take request from anyone, let alone plugin anything.

For me playing music from a phone is a no no . Nine times out of ten the song destroys the dance floor and you have to start again. I work in a club and just tell them sorry can't plug you in. They soon get over it.
Good work man. I enjoy watching your gig logs. I am djing my very first baptism tomorrow. I have done other kind of events, such as wedding and 15aneras, etc... but never a baptism. I feel like those are kind of religious parties, do you feel the same way? What kind of music would you play? I am also sub-contractor and the other Dj passed this event to me and I am also on the same spot where I do not know any details of the event.
I done lots of baptisms but, I never play any religious music at them..... I just play regular top 40 stuff... I would ask the clients what kind of music they would like.
i had a gig at a "ball" (more like a school dance) and it was harry potter themed, whatever i can accept that. But then people were requesting old songs, and harry potter parodies of songs(like uptown funk... wtf.) and 3 people had asked if i was playing through YT, i kindly said no and continued. 2 of the same people come by and ask if they could set up a hot spot for me to play YT through, and i declined again(sparing them their data) and i also told them it would be to much of a hassle to stop the music right there, then re set up the speakers. and they walked away saying that i was one of the worst DJs ever lmao

"You HAVE to play this song - everyone will dance to it!!" - By the way - I wanted to ask you... you use Serato - I use Traktor Pro 2 - is there a major difference? Have you tried Traktor? I have not tried Serato.... just curious if there was a specific reason you use it?
I have never used traktor at a gig before... I have played around with it but, I've alway found that serato is right for me. Its the standard at most clubs here in the USA so thats why I use it.
Another great video. Once upon a time in the early 90's, I DJ'd a wedding that tool place in a huge backyard. My client was the groom who I knew from work. The house was owned by the "Padrino" of the bride. The client asked me to play all types of music. The Padrino only wanted to hear merengue and kept coming over to the DJ booth every time I would play something else to tell me to change the music back to merengue. I told him that the client wanted a little bit of everything. He told me that it was his house and he only wanted merengue. I ignored him after discussing the issue with the client. Big mistake. He finally came over and showed me a gun under his jacket and told me to play merengue or die. I immediately stopped the music and made an announcement that the party was over because the Padrino had threatened me with a gun. The wedding went nuts!!!! In the middle of the fuss and arguing I loaded my equipment and took off. I hate weddings and assholes. Mixmaster Mendez out!
I hear ya. I had the same troubling situation back in the summer of 2019. Me and my friend (whom I met in elementary school) was DJing an all-night dance at a summer camp (where you stay for about a month or two). The client was run by a non-profit and has been run for well over 100 years. We were asked to play (but also had to "take requests", but never planned to, but it turned out to be a learning experience though) a little bit of everything including modern music. Before the all-night dance even started though, a particular amount of people only wanted to hear late-2010s hip hop and about a couple teens were staying by the DJ booth majority of the time to make sure I only play late 2010s hip hop, not to mention that several were writing down requests of songs (as sheets of paper were right in the DJ booth), and every time I played a different song, the individuals told me to change the music back to late 2010s hip hop. We [me+friend] tried to tell them that they wanted a little bit of everything and tried to discuss this issue with one of the camp staff. Big mistake. This only prompted those teenagers to get hostile and demanded that we play the whole songs and only late 2010s hip hop. I immediately stopped the music, and simply thanked everyone for coming, and in the middle of the fuss at 03:30 (3:30AM), I packed up the equipment and after only 3-4 hours of sleep, we took off and I went straight home (w/ a quick breakfast stopover), very upset. I know that this was a learning experience, but I hate doing summer camp dances with teenage assholes!!!!

Same as mine damn! When someone requesting a song then is not matching in my bpm then i play it later then he/she will came back then ask where is the song i requested? Honestly you can’t play the song right away cause it will ruin your bpm playlist/track i feel you man so very annoying even from wedding birthdays debut ect. I have had more parties like this than I care to remember. It goes with the territory of being a mobile DJ. I have blown 3 mixers in my garage that have had drunk people's drinks spilled on them.
Geez I can sympathize with you DJ Barr!! I had a quinceñiera event where the Birthday girl had a list for her and her teenage friends to dance to. Nobody would dance to her mostly, unknown to adults, rap songs so anytime I wanted to play to get the crowd back, she would get pissed and had her parents come back to me to get her tracks back on. Of course, floor emptied again and All That was left was a ball of teens in the middle of the dance floor, not dancing but just singing to the rap lyrics!! SMH! Another selfish teen! My setup was nice and equipment did not fail me but when the night was over, I was furious!!
I had that similar experience at a summer camp dance back in 2019! Selfish teens trying to make late 2010s hip hop be the monopoly of those types of dances, which is not allowed. DJs are not obligated to play only one genre, at almost every event. If the problems continued, you probably should’ve ended the dance immediately, loaded your equipment and leave, and blacklist the client until further notice! That’s what I did.

Hey bro, I felt like it was my story...it so happens you feel y are u doing this event at all.. On One program 1 guy kept on coming (bride's brother) with his songs....and I finally agreed to play. He kept on coming again and again and either his phone would ring or he just disconnects the phone from the mixer cable all of a sudden and would say to me.."'k carry on"'...Does he even know the Stage goes silent once he unplugs his phone and everyone stops dancing and turns towards me as to what happened..?? Atleast he could have given me 10 seconds to cue in the next song. However the worst part was he would make everyone stop dancing on my music by signalling or by holding their hands and would want them to dance on his music... I just fell like, "Boss come over play ur MP3s I am done". But the next day I had a Punjabi wedding....Man, you need to do a Punjabi Wedding...they r so much fun full of energy and patient..right from ur music testing they would start dancing and would pull others who are sitting and make them dance....And they keep showering money ...lol...that was something new.. :-) All the best for your future gig bro...You just rocked....Sorry typed so long couldnot stop myself... ;-)
I had that same experience that someone asked for a song and I didn't have it so I played their song off a phone and guess what...... Their phone rang in the middle of the song but wait... The sob that asked for the song wasn't even dancing to it which made it even worse. I also looked bad when the phone went off. So now one of the rules is no phone is to be asked to be used while I mix.... Also I won't read someone's phone to See what song they want. If you can't write it on a paper then I won't play it.

Why did the guy have to be Peruvian😂 jpjp I'm saying this cause I'm Peruvian. But in my two cents if I was your friend I woulda handed you the party that was more of get there and play(easier gig). Cause in the end your friend was just throwing an extra 1000 pounds on you. Plus I try not to do too many subcontracting gigs cause, if you don't do a good job with the very little information handed to you, you make the person originally contracted look bad and it makes you look bad on yourself, but it is a good way to make a few extra bucks. But all in all, this was a good gig and the outcome coulda been worse if they were completely drunk. Lol keep em coming bro! I would have been clear with the client. I don't recommend you take his request, his song is going to kill the Dance Floor, not to mention the fact that is going to sound terrible versus all the other music I've been playing due to the fact that it's coming through a cell phone via TH-cam.
I know the feeling I've had alot of idiot guest who demand sure music and they expect you to play it immediately.. If it's not the right moment to play it, I wont play it, no matter how many time they go up to you and keep requesting. If they get mad oh well get over it..they aren't paying me. It's pretty common though..
unfortunately we are providing a service and if the people paying come up to us and asked us for a song we have to do it they're paying us, but it's a good idea like the one guy here said announce the name of the person that requested the song at the beginning and at the end of the song so they know that he was the one responsible for fucking up the mood

play requests is a dangeous game . If the requester drunk guy know that you play what he want , he will ask for unlimited song to play it. Only play the request for the person who own the party. Only if the request is playable i play it. You do it well for the birthday man eyes. That is the most important and take it easy there was only 3 min fail from 4-5 hours , expand your music gallery to have more spaces to move when this happen and stand up.

that crowd was a group of NPCs . their animation didn't change if it was a build up or a bass drop! like no reaction to anything the song was doing, they just danced as if the room had silence. I am strongly against requests. Like, why did they hire you if they were just going to play random low quality songs from a phone? so upsetting. Like hiring a plumber to clean a fridge. they could have just set up a Bluetooth speaker and apple/Spotify music.

Same as mine damn! When someone requesting a song then is not matching in my bpm then i play it later then he/she will came back then ask where is the song i requested? Honestly you can’t play the song right away cause it will ruin your bpm playlist/track i feel you man so very annoying even from wedding birthdays debut ect. I have had more parties like this than I care to remember. It goes with the territory of being a mobile DJ. I have blown 3 mixers in my garage that have had drunk people's drinks spilled on them.
Geez I can sympathize with you DJ Barr!! I had a quinceñiera event where the Birthday girl had a list for her and her teenage friends to dance to. Nobody would dance to her mostly, unknown to adults, rap songs so anytime I wanted to play to get the crowd back, she would get pissed and had her parents come back to me to get her tracks back on. Of course, floor emptied again and All That was left was a ball of teens in the middle of the dance floor, not dancing but just singing to the rap lyrics!! SMH! Another selfish teen! My setup was nice and equipment did not fail me but when the night was over, I was furious!!
I had that similar experience at a summer camp dance back in 2019! Selfish teens trying to make late 2010s hip hop be the monopoly of those types of dances, which is not allowed. DJs are not obligated to play only one genre, at almost every event.
If the problems continued, you probably should’ve ended the dance immediately, loaded your equipment and leave, and blacklist the client until further notice! That’s what I did.
I've only ever had to play a request off a phone once and it was the client... I HATE THAT!!!

Hey bro, I felt like it was my story...it so happens you feel y are u doing this event at all.. On One program 1 guy kept on coming (bride's brother) with his songs....and I finally agreed to play.
He kept on coming again and again and either his phone would ring or he just disconnects the phone from the mixer cable all of a sudden and would say to me.."'k carry on"'...Does he even know the Stage goes silent once he unplugs his phone and everyone stops dancing and turns towards me as to what happened..??
Atleast he could have given me 10 seconds to cue in the next song.
However the worst part was he would make everyone stop dancing on my music by signalling or by holding their hands and would want them to dance on his music...
I just fell like, "Boss come over play ur MP3s I am done".
But the next day I had a Punjabi wedding....Man, you need to do a Punjabi Wedding...they r so much fun full of energy and patient..right from ur music testing they would start dancing and would pull others who are sitting and make them dance....And they keep showering money ...lol...that was something new.. :-)

It's tuff when a guest is reluctant and then going the client is F**ked up. I don't blame you, I do the same thing.
I had that same experience that someone asked for a song and I didn't have it so I played their song off a phone and guess what...... Their phone rang in the middle of the song but wait... The sob that asked for the song wasn't even dancing to it which made it even worse. I also looked bad when the phone went off. So now one of the rules is no phone is to be asked to be used while I mix.... Also I won't read someone's phone to See what song they want. If you can't write it on a paper then I won't play it.

Why did the guy have to be Peruvian😂 jpjp I'm saying this cause I'm Peruvian. But in my two cents if I was your friend I woulda handed you the party that was more of get there and play(easier gig). Cause in the end your friend was just throwing an extra 1000 pounds on you. Plus I try not to do too many subcontracting gigs cause, if you don't do a good job with the very little information handed to you, you make the person originally contracted look bad and it makes you look bad on yourself, but it is a good way to make a few extra bucks. But all in all, this was a good gig and the outcome coulda been worse if they were completely drunk. Lol keep em coming bro! If it's not the right moment to play it, I wont play it, no matter how many time they go up to you and keep requesting. If they get mad oh well get over it..they aren't paying me. play requests is a dangeous game . If the requester drunk guy know that you play what he want , he will ask for unlimited song to play it. Only play the request for the person who own the party. Only if the request is playable i play it. You do it well for the birthday man eyes. That is the most important and take it easy there was only 3 min fail from 4-5 hours , expand your music gallery to have more spaces to move when this happen and stand up.
