I dont let Dillon gouge their hell into me by grossly inflating the costs of their dies. I have the XL750 press and dont have any problems with Lee or RCBS dies whereby not needing to put a lock nut on the underside of the tool head. My dies work effectively for my .223 and 9mm and so maybe Lee, RCBS, and/or others have changed their dies since I bought mine over 6 years ago.
I feel you on the price factor. I'm not a big fan of overpaying for a name and have been quite satisfied with Lee dies throughout my reloading journey. There will always be those who insist on other names/brands for whatever reasons.
When I got my 750 I didn't even bother with their dies. My toolheads are full of all my favorite dies from every other manufacturer.
