Heather, what a curious concept this video was for me at my 3am bewitching hour. Hubby & I just returned home from a grueling stem cell transplant, so while I'm back in my studio, my brain & soul are fried. My creativity freezes, flashes, & floods, so your video gave some fascinating & wise perspectives in a therapeutic format. This is one video I'll return to again & again! Thanks so much!!

This video turned up on my feed and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I love your artwork, all of the gorgeous layers, love the one you didn’t like with the blobbies! Everything you said was good advice and one question I get asked is “what do you do with it ?” I want to say “if it has given me joy in the making, it has served its purpose”. It is a good feeling to rediscover art that you have made even if it’s because you see how your art has evolved! So happy to hear that you have beaten breast cancer, thank you for your inspiration!💕🇨🇦

OMG! One of the most powerful videos I've seen in a long time. I really enjoyed how you spoke humbly about the fundamentals of engaging the creative mindset. Somehow those pivotal moments in our life remind us of what's important and I needed to hear YOUR voice specifically right now. The reminder to create limitations has inspired me as I've been wondering where to take my focus in 2024 after an incredible year of exploring and learning; the 6 x 6 100-day challenge work is just the type of thing which will work perfectly especially combined with creating some boundaries. You caused me to look at the extensive art supplies I have around me and encourage me to use them rather than just store them for some unknown future that none of us is guaranteed. Before I drivel on and on, let me conclude with two things. First I loved all of the art you shared, even (and especially) that piece you said you didn't like (which was part of the "knowing" you shared - record what you like and why), and second I wish you well in your healing and continued self-expression. Thank you so much for sharing this part of your journey - it demonstrated incredible strength!

I just want to thank you for this video. I love your art style and you really have inspired me with your suggestions. The small format also really appeals to me. The timing also couldn’t be more perfect. I was only today reflecting on my writing process and the need to accept the failures and disappointments as part of the process. Having just (today) completed a year-long writing practice, you have shown me how to translate the practice into a new medium. Thank you!

I never liked abstract art, but yours is beautiful. I love your vibrant colors, your work looked as if you planned everything. I would love to do it like you but I'm a realistic oil painter and my creative brain just doesn't want to allow me to do abstract art.

I have been saying Yes!!!, Yes!!! Yes!!! all the way through! LOL! And several years ago, I realized that I experimented a lot when making art and that calling it my Lab was more appropriate. I’m not sure when I realized that keeping most of my experiments was okay to do. I started this thing about learning to paint in 74. I was 28. I did toss a lot of those first efforts. I was learning rosemaling and it was pages and pages of tracing paper - whatever worked - before I tried my hand at painting on a permanent surface. I pretty much have made things work. On through the years, I’ve gone on to acrylics and watercolor, finding my love in the last. But, I still experiment a LOT. Those things that did not work out so well are good for something. :D I do hope for your future. Things are much different than when my mother had it.

Thank you for sharing your process. Art-making is a head game. I so enjoy hearing how other artists approach their work. Fear is often right at our elbow. Surviving cancer...an even bigger head game. From one breast cancer survivor to another, I send you gratitude as well as hugs and love. No one fights alone. 💗

Very beautiful work, thanks for the video and the inspiration. Wow think about leaving your family a bunch of art rather than a bunch of art supplies. That is a wonderful way of keeping yourself going, sometimes I wonder why i'm doing this, and that is a great way to get unstuck. I really love the suggestion to do a 100 day project and limit the colour palette and use different tools. Challenging myself really keeps me focused and what a great way to play. Again Thank you so much.

I am so glad your YT page popped up for me. I love abstract art, and I love your little books and the idea of “making it a game “ . I am also going to start using up my stuff.. right after this home remodel winter project is done. But I can definitely find small blocks of time to work on this little notebooks. I will now be going through looking for all your videos to see if you have already shared how you made them. Are you working on one sheet then cutting down or cutting up and putting in the notebook before or after finishing. I am glad you beat your cancer DX and look forward to more of your videos. Thank you for your time in sharing with us. Merry Christmas ❤️🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

The books I show in this video are made by printing on 9 x 12 sheets and then cut down to a smaller size for the pages. This gives me leftover off cuts for collage material to include in the book.

I have sold it at times, but I haven’t had the energy for the business part of art recently. It’s currently accumulating, so will have to work on my process to disperse it.

Hi Heather! Just discovered your channel through my love of gel printing. Can you do a video or point me to one that explains how you put your little gel printed books together? I e seen many book binding videos but would like to know how you do yours. Thank you! (p.s. gel plate printing was my salvation during and following lymphoma treatment. I was always surprised that no matter how discouraged or dark I felt, my art was always bright and it made me feel alive. I’m in remission and feeling fine. Thanks for sharing your story.)

Heather I have only just found your channel this week. Your calm and well-measured approach to making art with serendipity appeals to me a great deal. I'd like to be able to work with very fine marks on the pages of my books and i'm wondering where to get some of the fluid acrylic fine tip pens you're using. I've been searching far and wide but don't see anything with that "pen-like" base. I have arthritis and I can't work with the bigger bottle-shaped applicators.

I gelli print these books on to 9 x 12 inch paper then cut them down into 5.5 x 9 sheets to make into book signatures. This gives me a lot of collage material from the off cuts.

Thank you so much for sharing. I can see by the other comments that your story has resonated with us all. Everything you said has made so much sense to me. Just before I found this video I was in my art room. I sat there and just didn't know what to do. So I came back out. And found this video on my YT. I LOVE all your art. It resonates with me. I tend towards abstract but love order. It's a strange combo. Bit I see some of alot of that in your journal pages. All of them beautiful. I also love the rules part. I think that will help me get on task and stay on task. Thanks again. I'll liking and subbing to your YT and will be looking at all your other videos.
