hoestly the saddest thing is that while this is the most important talk I've seen since the last Cory Doctorow Defcon Talk, I don't know a single person with the attention span to watch it
true, the thing i cant stop thinking is: if this talk was actually effective the megacorps mentioned would be suing the venue and organisers (among other punative methods) to silence it. They would be trying their damnedest to make him persona non grata.
Hopefully they're just ignorant, overly comfortable in their hegemonic power.
@@ince55antone thing megacorps have become good at is appropriating counter culture and cynicism and using them to recapture people
Yeah that's a fair worry. But people like me are also watching way more of this than I thought I had the attention span for when I clicked, and I have almost zero experience with computing tools but he's inspiring the sh!t outta me, he's so engaging
Maybe the powers that be know of and fear the potential harnessed power of ADHD hyperfocused hackers, might be why they make it hard to get diagnosis and medication. Only half joking 😅
Hearing Eric Schmidt give students at Stanford the EXACT directions he just mentioned about Ignoring IP laws and "getting the lawyers to clean it up", kinda gives truth to this.
bless this person🙏🏽
speeches like these are important. they take advantage of engineers, the money is too damn good isn't it.
Commenting to boost engagement :)
Wow I don't think I've ever re-wound a video so many times to take in what had just been said. Amazing talk.
Cory for Prez!!
50 minutes of straight to the point, fat free real talk🥇
It's strangely refreshing to hear someone swear in a microphone. It feels like that happens less and less
Right? It kinda caught me off guard, in a good way. It was so unexpected because of how uncommon it is. *It's honest.*
one of the most concise and complete talks on this topic. amazing, thank you!
I hope more people see this before censors get ahold of it. Especially younger folks who don't remember the internet before 2000's.
Eli Pariser proved it, 2011.... they definitely bury the best content makers of truth
It’s literally be shoved into my face for 3 weeks.
Educating yourself on history, critical thinking, and just plain smarts is the key
FKING love every version of this talk. platforms be damned, take back the internet and make it smol
People should save their criticism until after watching the entire video. He's a great speaker.
Tough to get through the first few seconds of mask mumbling...
@@trumpetpunk42 He sounded perfectly fine. The most he did was take breaths. That's the only critique and it's not a strong one. Watch it without video and it might help
Why? Just seeing someone wearing a mask tells me they aren't worthy of any further evaluation and can be easily dismissed.
top notch presentation, should've signed up for that EFF newsletter ages ago
That was awesome! He like hacked the feedback or whatever that interference was by waving his arm up and jumping and was clearly following his sense of action there. lol
Spot on Brother, but never forget we made this. Now we need to reinvent our wheel with improvements and get back on track. No social media should ever last more than 5 years. And each generation needs to get closer to individual people and further from Capitalist Greed and Those that want to control everyone!
dude you are fucking amazing at speaking! very gripping. speaking all facts and i learned many things.
thank you for playing your part! let me know how to help or help me help us all
Amazing, amazing talk. Thanks for putting into words all my suspicions and educating me on more than a few things.
Concentration of power corrupts absolutely, no matter what economic system you have
Thank you. Finally someone who got to the crux of the problem!
Corruption resulting from the love of money is better contained by capitalism than by communism. But even capitalism is as strong as its weakest link, and that is the self-centeredness of fallen man.
@@mk71b except the fact that communism just makes less people wealthy… and by its nature concentrates power into the hands of bureaucrats without the possibility of anything coming to replace it outside a collapse of the system.
Check out the book Morals in business.
Properly formed Co-operatives are the future of quality goods and services
i don't know how i haven't heard of this man before but i absolutely love him
Something you may want to include in future speeches is the huge conglomerate known as Disney.
That's it's own 2 hour rant
and intelligence agencies who are the main drive for most of his complaints.
Odd isn't it?
Disney? You mean the mini-Government..
that is a huge reason google and facebook are the way they are... the W word is accurate, wokeified 200%
I love that man. He says exactly what is on my mind.
1:14 preach preach!! This guy is on point!
Oh snap! I've been reading boingboing for like 20 years and somehow never seen a picture/video of Cory Doctorow.
How?!
@@AubreyBarnard😆 dunno! I even listened to one of his audiobooks
I'd read the presentation text on Cory's site, but *holy hell* the actual delivery is so much fun! I love this man too much!
Fantastic talk.
I usually listen speeches like this at 1.25x speed; this genius makes me need 0.75x :D
Same, I couldn't keep up! O_o
Weakness, I listened at 2x like everything else.

Damn. The emotional energy of a rant, with the persuasiveness of logic. Love this guy.
I've thought all of these things! Seeing someone talk about them is fantastic.
Great speech. We definitely need to enforce our antitrust laws. We also need to enforce our fraud laws in the face of AI
thank you for wearing an N95, it's hopeful to see people with a platform caring about protecting their health & the health of their community
Honestly, I’m impressed that he did this whole speech without a single drink of water
Incredibly well put.
i felt like jumping up and punching the roof with a HELL YEAH! ... This is so on the point.
Great rant
My favorite character from Mr Robot
Commenting to give interaction to show the big microwave that this video deserves more
So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell: ‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take this anymore!
