Iv owned horses and I like this farrier ! Like how he’s careful with his knife and tools always watching where his work is going not just doing. Really clean tidy knowledgeable Farrier. Amazed he don’t have tons of subscribers to be honest people. * plus I loveee the Red dog “ Kong” toy for the foot rest :0) x x
Why does the hammer get bounced on the anvil before hitting the shoe for shaping? That finished job looks really good . I am so impressed by the knowledge and skill of farriers and this young man is very good at his work , very efficient and effective ❤
What about dremmeling out that crack, and some adhere to better immobilize it? Also when you talked about a shoeing plan, no mention of your long term strategy for that toe - crack goes right into the coronary band...plus a rockered toe which helps breakover would relieve some of that toe crack stress. And hey, just being a Devil's Advocate here, your shoe making, shaping, fitting, and finish finesse are admirable, I needed to find something to gripe about, lol.
I personally am not a huge fan of applying products to feet with lots of chemicals in em but since this was essentially just old scar tissue and not presently bleeding or interfering with the coronary band, I didn’t think it necessary to apply a barshoe or anything beyond good trimming and fitting. I understand where you’re coming from though.
How many trim cycles has he had with rehab shoes? did you do anything to treat the bacteria in the wall? it looks like the coronet could be damaged. will that damage grow out and if it will how long will it take?
This was my first time seeing this horse. This is essentially just scar tissue at this point. No infection there. And there will more than likely be a blemish on the outside of this foot for time to come. My goal is to get the foot to grow solid hoofwall and no long split and crack.
I’d be lying to anyone if I said I could make the crack disappear forever and make it look like a normal hoof. It’s essentially just scar tissue now and my job is to maintain that it doesn’t open up or get worse.
Wow that was a big crack!! Hope we get an update on his progress in the future :) Great job.
I’ll try to keep updates with him!

Impressive workmanship! Your informational narration really helps to understand the shoeing process. A very relaxing video to watch.
Good video. Looking forward to the next 1. Thanks for sharing...
Awesome! Thank you 🤝
You are the best Gavin!
Only one I watch, the best out there!
I’m not a farrier, but if I was, I’d want you for my teacher!!
❤👍🏻Maryland

Good luck in your career. Old tools are no problem for a good Farrier.
Good video, hope to see more to come.🐴
Glad to hear!
Really good explanation love it, New sub

Was he sound on that hoof before you reshod him?
scar from damage to the coronet band
Would anything ever be applied to a big crack to reduce further splitting? Maybe a bit of fiberglass mesh and epoxy?
Can that crack be corrected? You always do a nice job with all your horses. Just wondering about this poor horses’ hoof. 😮

Do you think the crack will ever heal? Or will it be with the horse forever?
love your vids, my dude
Thanks man. I was wondering if you were hanging around and watching the videos still. That’s cool 😎
@@USAfarrier-pnwfarriershowno doubt, I sometimes comment and sometimes don't, but for sure watch your vids :)

How did you go about becoming a farrier? If you went to school what school did you go to? I’m about to go to school for it
I went to college for it at Walla Walla community college but the program no longer exists there unfortunately.
What size nail are you using for size 1 shoe to 3? Curious ,
I use a 6 slim blade capewell/
or 5 combo slim liberty 🗽
I usually go up to a combo 6 slim in 2-3 and larger nails beyond that
👍
PLEASE - EYE PROTECTION!!!
Quit playing with the hoof knife when you have tons of hoof to remove ?!!
He can play all he wants with his knife bucko, he does a great job!
