Hey all, thanks for checking out the video! This is a full doc. version of my September 2020 adventure down the Bonaventure River. Please subscribe to my channel and let me know what your favourite part of the film is?
I loved the blue water an watching you an Tory trying to catch those fish jumping right in front of you. It's also amazing that you come pole that whole way In the rapids
@@chrisblack8390 thanks a lot, ya I think that water colour is my favourite part too, and watching those big salmon jump right in front of your face is amazing too
Hey, Jim. Just found the channel and love the documentaries. My favourite part of the doc was Tori saying fuck you when she fell down at the very start if the trip. Haha. Good Canadian hangries in action. We've all been there. I know it's a year after you guys did this trip, but I wanted to offer one little pointer with your fly casting - slow down. You're casting quite quickly and working against the energy in the line. Tight lines.
You guys Are fun to watch, My favorite part is when your wife gave you the finger lol told you to F off that was hilarious, but it’s so real, like what wife has never done that to a husband, You guys are just down to earth, a real couple having a blast and living the adventure, keep up the great work Jim/tori looking forward to new adventures watching them
Two comments: 1) The anticipation of you NOT catching a salmon had me on the edge of my seat! 2) Tori is an awesome woman. Not many people would commit to a three day canoe polling expedition with only 1/2 hour of experience. Kudos to Tori in a great Doc-U-Min-Tori!
I don’t know if I can adequately describe what your videos mean to me. The sheer beauty of undeveloped wilderness, and the way you capture it on film. What struck me most was the crystal clear water. Thankful the human race hasn’t ruined and polluted everything. And this is Canada which makes me so proud to be Canadian and want to do whatever I can to keep these areas so pristine. Also lovely to see Tory. And your attitude Jim, it just shines through. Had a great time without catching fish that jumped right in front of you lol
Thanks very much and it was a great time to stand there and observe those awesome fish jump as you hear the flow of the river. I am extremely happy to hear that these videos make you want to fight for conservation.
Everything and everyplace you go is so meaningful to me. I just turned 64 and am crippled up. Your life is my dream. I can't stop crying I'm so happy for the two of you, keep up the wonderful work love yall Brian Puffenbarger. Martinsburg WV
wow! you guys are incredible. i'm seeing a side of Tori with a sense of humor i've never seen before this video. i'm loving vicariously joining you guys on your adventures.
The effort of poling the canoe and how you guys seemingly mastered great maneuverability while not continuously taking spills is a skill set. Epic journey, epic adventure!
Love this episode. Beautiful area. I live in northern New Brunswick not far from there. Don’t be disappointed not catching an Atlantic salmon. Been there done that 1000 times. I’ve been filming a fishing series for many years, trying to capture catching Atlantic salmon is very difficult. Just trying to catch one is ponderous. Sometimes your skunk for three days and then one morning you may go out and catch three. Proper techniques are definitely required. It’s a fine art
Holy cow the balance and strength to maneuver your boats like this! Impressive! And here I am, barely able to stand in still water! Great content, you two are amazing!
Awesome video Jim and Victoria! I have subscribed and watched all of your videos and although this one may be a little older I appreciate that authenticity in your relationship together in this particular video! 🙂 keep it real my friends and good luck on every other adventure ❤
Loved this video, my hubby Michael and I fly fish, so felt so cool to watch this adventure. Can’t wait for your next adventure, I’m new so I watch old ones and keep up with the new one of your and Ted’s videos.eventually I will have watch all of the older videos. 🥴
Nice, ya this was our first time giving it a go with fly fishing and we loved it! Thanks a lot for watching and I just posted a new one from the adventure with ted snd I
I love the content, and I learn a lot watching your videos. With fly fishing, less is more. When you go to recast your line, don’t rush it, only flick the rod forward (not throw it, it’s not a spinner/bait caster) once the line is nearly all the way back. Same goes for when you’re at the front of your cast. Cast at the head of the pool and run your fly down the current. Gentle flicks of the wrist are a lot less strenuous and can get your fly just as far, if not farther than throwing your entire arm. It’s definitely a learning curve compared to other types of fishing, but the fight of a salmon on a fly is so worth it
That Was A TOTALLY AWESOME VIDEO & ADVENTURE & A SUPER TRIPLE Hats Off to TORY, But NOT To Take Anything Away From Jim That Was Unreal & I / We Couldn't Begin To Do What You Two Do, So We Do it In Our Minds Watching You, But We Are in Our 70s, But Still Young At Heart , After 44 years together ,So Please Be Careful & Keep it Up 👍👍👍👍👍😀
That trip looked amazing! You and Tori are a awesome match and I love ❤️ watching the realness of your relationship! Hilarious seeing Tori flip you off !! Love that woman !
Yeaaaaaaaaahhhh its time to ditch what I am doing, hit LIKE and get ready to sit back and watch a Jim and Tori adventure video. Whoo Hoo let the good times roll, thanks for uploading dude.
After reaching the take out, you probably understand why a lot of the guides in Maine and the Maritimes use such a tall stern paddle. Very easy to remain standing while switching between pole and paddle. Tori was doing a very impressive job for a first time poler. She kept her momentum in check in the technical stuff. One thing to avoid is snubbing with the pole across the body. If it gets jambed between some rocks you may get launched out of the canoe.
I really enjoyed the video! Y’all make a great team ❤️ We pôle the AuSable river here in Michigan fun stuff . Tuff go fishing for those Atlantic’s that water is incredibly clear Which poses some unique challenges but at least you can see what pools to target . Since you can’t use weighted flies use a fluorocarbon leader which sinks will help get those flies down . Once your past a section of rapids with a pool cast upriver and swing that fly over the pools and maybe get one of those giants all riled up !
It is purely evident of your LOVE for Tori. I never found anyone that loved me in life. This makes me cry for a few reasons. I am just so tired. so tired. Loved the video. Keep them coming.
Beautiful water! And you guys did amazing for your 1st time ever! Hell yeah! And I couldn't help chuckling every time you showed the fish jumping right in front of you! I swear you're right, and they were messing with you! And their little fishy laughs! 😂 I kept armchair suggesting, "Try a different fly!" 😂
@@JimBairdAdventurer Hi there Jim and Tori. I decided to re-watch some of your older videos. I also laughed when Tori 'gave you the finger', etc. As for the colour of the water, it reminds me of a lake in British Columbia called Kalamalka Lake in the Okanagan Valley quite close to Vernon, The 'touristy meaning' is "Lake of Many Colours", but it is actually 2 words. One word means water and the other word means soothing or healing. My aunt used to have a cottage on/by the lake and she always told me that it meant Lake of Many Colours. So when I saw the colour of this river it sure brought back some happy memories!!!! Thank you for filming this trip with just the two of you.
My fav: you and Tori relaxing and eating out of the same pot. Also seeing the salmon jumping. Y'all got good with pole canoeing. A cup of Tori's hot chocolate would complete my great day for sure. Thanks for all you do to share with us. The best to you.
Oh my good people...you did such a good job of ridin the wave...loved seeing the 2 of you out there for some we time. Tori you rocked it on that last paddling stretch. You must be feeling proud of yerself! Heyho ...
Wow classic so wonderful amazing beautiful advantures nice beautiful place where at different spot of 🏕️ camping and fishing just awesome beautiful on land and especially the crystal clear the river.my friends I love that video I just wanted to watch it lot of times.
Thanks very much! Glad you liked it snd I appreciate your positive comment. The river is truly amazing with its extremely clear water and consistent current. Have a great day!
I watched your Yukon trip yesterday, which I thoroughly enjoyed; gold nugget and all! Almost split a gut laughing when Tori told you to f**k off and flipped you the bird. She’s a hoot! Just loved the video!
Reminds me of one of my conoe trips through northern Minn. 40 yrs later and I still can hear her swearing through the woods as she was portaging and fell on a ant hill that I swear I warned her about. [come to think about it I believe everyone within a five mile radius heard her too].
We've caught salmon on the Minnesota tributaries flowing into Lake Superior by tying a piece of red yarn onto a hook. Might want to try that sometime. We learned that from an old timer who's fished the tributaries all his life.
Watching you guys poling is alot like watching a newborn calf try and walk, but hats off to u guys I can't stand in a canoe and I'm sure my wife would have beaten me with the pole just before she drown me, not just flip me the bird, pretty sure you got off pretty lucky Jim, there weren't even any post edit bruises 👍
definitely loved when she was losing it and yelling fuck you. that made me laugh a bit but i love the all around positive energy especially once you both settled and made camp. loved the commentary. you two would be awesome to paddle and camp with. poling looks like a good time! i’m gonna give it a stab this year, and not terribly far from the bonaventure, just a bit south, in NB.
interesting trip Jim I hope your going to be okay. . drink lots of water . so glad your all enjoying the trip . the boys are doing great and are enjoying it also stay safe all of you Hi tori great job
VERY interesting watching you both poling....looks like a great workout maneuvering through those rocks! Planning a road trip to Gaspe next year late Spring so will definitely check out Bonaventure. Lots of salmon to be eaten!
Another great upload! Just a tip or two on fly fishing When the fly line sounds like a whip cracking that’s not a good thing 😉. Slow down let the rod do the work. You will get more power in your cast and generate more line speed which will result in tighter loops. keep your elbow on a flat trajectory on the cast and don’t use a lot of wrist action just a slight roll of the wrist is all that is needed after you stop the rod. Stop your cast at 10:30 to 11 on your forward cast and 1-1:30 on the back cast that’s how the energy is released otherwise your cast just dumps in front of you or you get a really wide loop that has a lot of wind resistance. You’ll be slamming them in no time with a little practice and you have a perfect practice spot right in your back yard 👍. Also you probably will have a better shot at fishing for salmon in the riffles and the seams instead of the pools. The pools are better for spinning gear but fly gear is better to swing or dead drift your fly in the current. I hope you guys stick with fly fishing it’s so rewarding especially if you get to tying your own flies … catching a beast on a fly you tied yourself is the best feeling ever!
Another bit of advice. In fly fishing, mending is the ability to position the fly line on the moving current in a manner which counteracts the effects of the current, thus allowing the fly to present itself naturally on the water. Mends can be upstream (typically), downstream, and often contend with varying speeds of water.
So freaking cool with the salmon jumping right in front of you regardless of not catching anything and spending the day with your woman on equal footing.
Great work …. Exceptional few days. Pretty kool to see the salmon jumping all around you both and your expressions said it all.. especially enjoyed the Poling in the canoe. We used to do that as kids, showing off how great our balance was. Brought back some great memories. Thanks Jim n Tori ❤️👌🍁 LilliStJohn

Nice, thanks a lot and thanks god catching the full doc version too. The baby is doing great! Couldn’t ask for better when it comes to his sleep schedule
Hey Jim! I’ve been working my way through many of your videos. We are running the Bonnet Plume in a few weeks and your series on that river were useful for our intel and prep. I am heading up there with my 3 paddling buddies who I’ve paddled with for 25 years. We ran the “Bonnie” back in 2004 from the headwater lake to the salt water. Unlike your trip, we ran it in May and were the first paddlers down that season. It was wild with lots of pushy rapids. We left our poles at home lol but were there before the salmon run. It is a trip we need to do again. As an Atlantic Salmon fisherman though, I gotta say, the fish of 10,000 casts are not easy to catch. Kudos to you guys for giving it such a hard try and I’m jealous that you can make a living doing what you do and I only do it as a hobby! Cheers.
First off... you guys are fantastic. I only wished I lived in Canada as I think I could show you some fly fishing pointers so you can catch more Salmon and Trout. I've been fly fishing for over 30 years. It's sort of a passion for me. Keep at it! Maybe take a few lessons as it does it take some time to get the hang of it. Heck, it took me years to be fairly ok at it!

The water is so clear and beautiful. Thanks for sharing, it looked like a great trip.
You’re welcome! Ya, the water is just unreal!
Cheers.
So happy I found your channel. Great episode with the two.of you. Enjoyed every second.
Great to hear! Thanks a lot for tuning in and I’m glad you liked it.
Love the full length vids Jim. 👍👍
Thanks!
