at least with that first kaiju we see, they took the manga's art and expanded upon it. and I think the animators may have taken some inspiration from things like the Bleach anime, Godzilla singular point, and Gyo in how they handle their monster depictions.
Kaiju No. 8 and Chainsaw Man are kindred Spirits in a rather interesting sub genre of shonen that I hope we get more of. I can't quite think of a name for it. You could almost call it grittier? taking itself a bit more seriously while still being wacky and cinematic?
They really nailed the kaiju appearance, he looks 100% like a monster and not a man in a monster suit
