I bought an MS 182 3 months ago brand new. Store fired it up before I left. Took it to show my dad, probably a half hour to get there. Probably took me 20 pulls to get it started. I run an MS 361 that starts on 3-4 pulls, cold. I was NOT happy. I was ready to return it right then. Finally started an ran. After that, zero problems with it. Starts on 3-4 pulls every time. The 361 went down and purchased a brand new MS 311 a month ago. No problems on my first start up and both have been running perfectly so far. Very happy with both of them.
I bought the ms-182 and just tried it today, it was great!! Started right up in 3 pulls, and thankfully was a nice easy pull and not an arm jerker. It purred like a kitten and had plenty of power, especially considering it's price and consumer grade moniker. The quality of life improvements on these new models are great. It has very nice anti-vibe, I checked how much gas was left by just glancing at the tank, it was relatively quiet, and I love the return to run on/off switch. I cut down about 50 2-3" trees and the chain did not loosen even one bit so don't let the single bar nut dissuade you. If you are on a budget, or just don't need a big honkin professional saw, definitely give it a look. It seems well thought out and feels of pretty good quality to me.
Yes, finally Stihl make chainsaws that looks like more like chainsaws than camels. 😁😁 Got a gap under my 362 and 661, and over my Echo CS-2511WES. Thinking about 231, and I believe a homeowner saw is ok because the 362 is my primary work-horse. But maybe 182 will do the job as well...? It's mostly for cutting branches and smaller tree's with 12" guidebar. What would you recommend?
The MS231 is a nice saw, a bit more power and not much more weight. But if it’s just a branch cutter and small round warrior the MS182 will probably be just fine.
A data port on a homeowner saw? Those extra cooling fins will be needed from running the saws so lean trying to save fuel and emissions. That thing will likely have a short life from running that lean constantly.
Very good observation. If you're in the market for a homeowner saw, the wise choice would be to grab a 170 or 180 before they're replaced by this and the 162.
I've a 2009 ms310 with the original caps,a 2013 ms441c with original caps, and a 2021 ms250 with its original caps. You e gotta wipe around them before you open them, but theyve been fine otherwise.
Doesn't matter what it is. We'd rather have to change the brush cutters. It doesn't matter what it is every single year. No matter how I storage the store, the d*** thing it does not start. You can't just put gas in it. Go out back and get going to work. You gotta spend two hours trying to start the damn thing
Build quality has deteriorated at the same time as over complicating starting mechanism for domestic market. Ms180 a better saw than 182 imo. Generally it's more disposable which is not paradoxically green. The ms 162 bar is a joke. For domestic saws I rate echo and husqavana. For pro saws they are all essentially the same quality.
It will be interesting to see what we think of these saws in 15 years. The build actually looks and feels good and has the features needed for the market it is going for. But how will it last? We only have history to base off of and Stihl makes long life products.
So why is it every single year? I get my equipment out and it does not start new gas carburetor cleaner carburetor adjustment. Everything every freaking year. I gotta take it to the shop and pay these m. S.A. $100 to start my equipment every year. Dry storage carbon cleanup storage, new gas brand new gas right out of can. The d*** thing doesn't run for more than 2 minutes.
I know it sounds to simple, but you could either store it with premixed canned fuel or try running each of them once a month throughout the winter. Just start em and let them run til they get good and warm. Rev them up and let them idle a bit. I do my string trimmer, leaf blower, and mowers like that. The only one I've had problems out of is the leaf blower, think it's time for a carb rebuild

Thanks for sharing your experience. The 182 ain’t no dog

@@MarianRomanczuk 3:18? What about it?
I liked that too
Why do people hate the caps
Because when they were first introduced they were terrible
The early version had some issues with the o’rings swelling and therefore making it hard to install.
The Best caps...
I think

The talk like you never got the ms
181?
We had a few of those role through. Honestly that model never met our expectations so we didn’t stock it.
@@carlsmowerandsaw This seems to be a 181 with a light bar. The 'new' features you mention - springs, air filter etc - are present on the 181.
@@dab. you’re correct there are many features that are similar to the 181

It’s more reminiscent of Stihl’s pro saws for sure.
