After all these years of natural hair awareness and locs being more accepted, we still have work to do in the area of self-acceptance. Some are still obsessed with laid edges and "neatness" to the detriment of their hair and scalp, because the "clean look" is straight-adjacent. Even though we've embraced our natural hair, we still can't fully accept it in its untamed form. We still don't want no misplaced kinks or knaps showing. Heaven forbid it! Our hair can be neat and well cared for without being beaten and pulled into submission. But that's a deeply entrenched state of mind.
@j.r.maverick4355 omg, yes to all of this. I try to be patient, but it's exhausting trying to get someone to the point of acceptance. So much work still needs to be done, but I'm afraid that this issue will run some great hairstylist away.
Thank you for being so specific lots of people need to hear that we are suppose to care about the people we service so many have come in and are loc imposters just doing it for the money but not educating themselves first
@victoriapope33 I run from money hungry people in any industry. I always encourage people to do their research not just on the technique but on the loctician. People are so focused on titles that they get screwed over left and right. It's unfortunate 😕
I want microlocs and i don't want to see parts actually. I want brick layered parts and not tight.. I'm a stylist and was doin MUCH research before i push the button.. Well spoken because some people done fell off the 🎡 who wants their reties where you can't hold your head up or complaining of headache's and so forth . Well said this reminds me of my bff she always gets her hair braided then afterwards complaining about a braid is crooked then she would say no one can braid like her auntie just a bunch of crazy mess
I noticed the amount of new growth this client has. Would you say that’s a good amount for retie? I’ve never come close to having this amount of new growth for a retie
@secretkeke8906 that particular client is a truck driver, so she's not as flexible with her schedule. At that retie, she was at 4 months. But I recommend for her, every two months.
What’s your opinion on freestyle micro locs? what I mean is tiny locs with no specific grid pattern. I want tiny micro locs but I don’t want to deal with a grid.
@SteelFanHan I do reties on damp hair. It makes it easy to separate and clean up parts. But anyone who's doing retie on damp hair has to be mindful of tension as the hair stretches more when it's wet.
Very informative. I have been locked twice. Once was microlocks, interlock method. Half of hair was parted ok, the other half was ruff, different sizes, not clean parting. I combed it out after 2 wks. The 2nd time was sisterlocks. I wanted more locks than i got but continued the journey for a yr and 5 months. Because travel was becoming expensive and my hair was always dry, and breaking that, i tried conditioner which matted my hair. I ended up cutting it. I want to start my loc journey again, but i can't afford sisterlocks price since there are no locticians in Utah. I'm looking into microlocs. Is it bad to start with braid, then twist because im adding extentions? Will that cause problems later on? Jessyca, the CEO NBHC micolocs mastery, says it is a bad idea. Any advice?
@ChenyJRandom yeah, I would not recommend starting with braiding and then twisting. If you want to palm roll for maintenance, you can start your locs with coils or two strand twists.

I think something can be said about most women who get these smaller locs and that it’s we’re very very meticulous with our hair.
@Kiyonce.Kartier I'm okay with people being meticulous, but some go over board and risk their hair health

@@CraftyMomof12 I think it's fine. As long you have parts, that's fine. Not everyone wants straight lines. I have clients without a structured grid
I'm 18 months in and I like a neat grid but it doesn't have to be perfect. It looks unnatural when it's too kept, but that's just my opinion 🤷🏾♀️
@@SimpleeKomplex yes, neatness matters and you can get it without sacrificing scalp health
Should reties be done on damp hair? It starts on damp hair from the wash but the hair becomes dry towards the end of the appointment

@EnToiBeauty Thank you for replying. I'll go the interlock route.
How long do you recommend for time between reties?
@@nnenne4 it depends on the size of your locs, density and thickness of your hair strands
