I'm one of the descendants of the Muslims of the Cape and all the Muslims of the Cape are still in the same place today. The ruling party is trying to get the Cape Malays out of their cultural area through gentrification... So sad.

I'm a Malay.. This is a well known history in my culture.. Something unique about Malay ethnic from which I came from is, if you're born as a Malay automatically means you're a Muslim.. A Malay can't be a Malay without being a Muslim.. If a Malay converted to religion other than Islam it means he/she won't be recognise as a Malay anymore.. Meaning to say, when u abandoned your religion it means you've abandoned your culture because one can't be complete without the other.. It must go along together.. I love both my religion and my culture because that what makes me who I am.. I love history of our Muslim heroes.. May Allah SWT give these strong people a gift of Jannah.. InshaAllah..

I'm in Cape Town and there's a lot of information in here I never knew. Jazaakallaah khayran. Sad thing about this is, the things done at the grave sites / shrines of these people that brought their version of Islaam is appalling and contrary to the Islamic Teachings of what Muhammad Salallaahu alayki Wasallam brought.

But those are no ordinary grace sights brother. I never had opportunity to visit them but I heard much about it. Also you should know that cape town receives many blessings through those grave sights. Many miraculous things happen on account of those grave sights. They are the resting places of sufi sheikhs.
My mother told me that the white goevernment had such a healthy respect for the muslim people that they promised they would never break down those grave sights. Many strange sightings were made in that vicinity.
The problem with visiting grave sights, it appears to me is that people don't know the adhab of it. So far I have only seen the sufi's teach the adhab of the grave. They teach it bbecause they visit the graves a lot. It's very easy for unsuspecting muslims to fall into grave worship but sufi's know how to avoid it and are constantly teaching others. So if you want to know how to behave around a grave ask a sufi, then you can teach others. It's actually very simple once you know how.

Intesresting documentary - thank you. Im not sure if you are aware, but the connection with Eastern lands like Malaysia etc. are also shown in traditional South African food - Bobotie is a (delicious) dish of curry mince with raisins in, served with rice - seemingly a mix of Eastern and European foods. There are some words in Afrikaans that are derived from Malay words - "baie" (meaning a lot or very) is apparently from "bangja" and our word for banana "piesang" is also from the Eastern derivation. These words differ from the Dutch words (Dutch is seen as the parent language of Afrikaans). The first known written Afrikaans was also written in Arabic script - a testament to influence of Muslim scholars and the blending of cultures and languages. Peace and Salaam

Sedih bila sejarah besar ini telah dipusingkan oleh musuh Muslim. Darah Bugis dari Makassar ini turut dapat dikesan dari susur galur ulamak hebat Fathoni. Shaikh Yussuf al-Makassari also known Tajul Khalwati was a learned ulema who was initiated by his teacher Shaikh Ibrahim al-Kurani in Mecca in Shattariyyah Sufi Order. He was also initiated in Khalwatiyah Sufi Order (the Turkish called it Helveti Tarikat) by Shaikh Abu Barakat Ayyub Bin Ahmad al-Khalwati an Imam in the Masjid of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi in Damascus.
This is a great proof that the tasawwuf or sufism is one of the vital subject that need to be learn by every Muslims and it's not a bidaah. It's the true energy that drives the struggles of the early Cape Muslims.
