- People have been theorizing that Lomo Color Negative 800 is actually Kodak Gold 800, stoking the hope that Kodak could actually produce 800 speed Gold in 120 very easily. Is it true? I meet up with Jason of Grainydays to find out.

The Photo dept. + grainy days + bad flashes, man what a great collaboration. 😮
Honestly the best thing to happen to them. I feel really happy for them.
So true... I now have a Photo Dept. shrine in my closet... be on the lookout.
I’m tingling
I could do without bad flashes. He seems to be much of a drama queen. The over acting is just dumb.
@@eccentricsmithy2746 HEY. thats my friend. no need to shit on him. If his channel isnt for you just move along.
I'd like to think Jason is still on the beach, in the dark, trying to insert his tip.
That was Caleb but yes he definitely is
Eyyyy! Hector is in this!! I’m a fan of his! Also I watch Baxter’s dad from time to time.
Hect is 100% certified My Boy™️
Great video & awesome seeing you all together...although now I’m really missing Leo Carrillo, but heading south these days takes way too much talking myself in to!!!
Jesus, these film photography crossovers are getting out of hand :D I love it!
We will never stop
Love the vibe of this video!
This is one of the best videos Ive ever seen. It makes me nostalgic for experiences Ive never had
Wow can I hire you for marketing ?
@@ThePhotoDept If I had any marketing abilities, it would be an honour
Watch the 2015 documentary City of Gold for more L.A. visual nostalgia porn.
Such an epic group of dudes! Great video and awesome photos.
Thank you my dude
i never thought a super clamp would be used to clamp the mic LOL the shineyness caught my eye :D
Hey it works!
I definitely shocked myself as a kid opening up a disposable camera. Love all of your channels.
Thanks! Yeah so have I. Not a fun experience !
Dude your video colour grading is on point! I'd love to see Jason scan some of your shots and edit them with his look!
Hey thank you. You wanna see Jason edit my film shots? Interesting
Seriously good video dude! The photo at 6:30 is sooo good! I wonder if Baxter’s dad has told him he’s adopted yet🤔
Haha thanks man
Woooooow The collaboration TH-cam deserved the most!
Honestly it’s the crossover event of the century.
@@ThePhotoDept definitely
I am on the second roll of three in my RB67, and am now far more excited to see how this comes out. The first roll I tried handheld in late light and hated it, hoping with sharper technique the results will be worth the effort.
Oh absolutely worth the effort. I’m excited you’ve got that to look forward to!
Nice work! Appreciate the comparison 👍
Thank you! Glad you dig it.
The picture with the three shadows is perfect.
Ah thanks I’m glad you like it!
new upload! yay
Things i didn't expect to see in this video: Jason who i follow. Nice !
Jason is everywhere
@@ThePhotoDept It's good to know that he has so many awesome friends.
Best notification I got today
really good one!
I really enjoy your videos.
Thank you! I’m glad
Lomo 800 is probably Kodak 800VR, in the past you could buy it straight from Kodak in Kodak 100/200/400/800 and 1000VR. The film was discontinued in 1999 but the 800 variant lingert on in disposable camera's. Now Kodak is saying that they are coming with "new" film stocks this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they re-release the VR series of film.
I’ve heard that too, but the evidence that it is gold 800 is pretty convincing.
Beautiful images Chris! Love Leo Carrillo!
Thank you! It’s def a great place.
Definitely some wicked shots.
Thanks my dude
Damn bro, your video are so crispy and cinematically pleasing. Really love your review on this specific topic. I was wondering what camera and lens do you use to film this video? Really appreciate it!
Everything filmed in Malibu was done with my iPhone 12 Pro Max with the Moment Anamorphic lens and NF filters. Everything filmed at my place (talking head portion) was shot with my Fuji xt3 and Nikon 24mm f/2.8
@@ThePhotoDept oh no wonder your beach clips looks so beautiful :') really looking forward for more anamorphic clips in the future
I like the mystery of Lomo. God bless ‘em.
Bless those sweet babies.
Duck glass got some prime placement this episode.
It does look suspiciously similar indeed which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Enjoyed the video!
Definitely a chill thing
I work at a film lab and I have a first-hand experience with opening up disposables. They are pretty easy to do, but yes, do not touch the capacitor. I have done this on accident and have seen my coworkers do it as well. It is no fun.
Takes the fun right out of it
Been there, done that. Kicks like a hungry baby for sure!
I actually dig Lomo400 a lot. Have a roll of Gold 200 and curious to see how the looks compare
oh i should compare them. good idea.
@@ThePhotoDept perhaps would be a good scenario for pushing/pulling each a couple stops!!
Beautiful tones! What did you rate the film at?
Thank you! I believe everything was rated at box speed.
The film photography Avengers are all assembling in LA
Hahah it’s true
Are you metering at box speed or overexposing it? Yours look amazing and every time I shoot Lomo CN 800, I’m just disappointed by it.
These were all shot at 400, I should have mentioned.
I always meter mine at 400 too
big tings big tings
Is there a comprehensive list of what Lomo films are probably made of? Like e.g. Lady (Earl?) Grey being a TMax and so on? I always hear the rumor only from someone somewhere mentioned on the side, but would love to get a little more close to the source.
Also... damn, how do you avoid touching that capacitor when opening the camera in complete darkness?
First, Lomo and Kodak are pretty tight lipped about that stuff. I talked to a Kodak employee the other day and can say that they aren’t allowed to comment on it. It’s all speculation really. And second, as long as you know where the capacitor is, you can avoid it by feel. It’s on the top left of the camera.
@@ThePhotoDept But is there maybe a "speculation list" on some photo forums or a place where the main discussion takes part?
Lady Grey and Early Grey are Fomapan films and Potsdam and Berlin Kino are ORWO films.
Yeah, Kodak could definitely make Gold in medium format again if they wanted to. They used to not that long ago, I have some in the freezer! Makes me think they have some deal with Lomography to avoid competition or something.
Damn I’d love to shoot that
@@ThePhotoDept It's pretty great, actually! I was given a roll and loved the results, so I bought some on ebay. I think it's the ISO 160 Gold Pro or something like that. Looks very much like the current Gold 200, but less grainy.
well your wish came true (:
@@katarina7520 Sure did! :-)
Nice video. Gold 120 existed before, let’s hope it is the film coming back this year as per Kodak hints.
I hope and pray
While you wait shoot some Lomography CN 100 in 120
great shot 6:17
Thank you
Wait, do you really think Ultramax was cut from
Fuji Pro 400h?
I’m surprised how many people think I was being serious.

Ultramaxx and Fuji 400h is that same? Wow. After shooting weddings for years on fuji 400h and my blue cast experience with Ultramaxx.. that don't make no sense. no way
Oh man I never thought people would take me seriously. I was joking.
@@ThePhotoDept Haha, got me. I caught no sense of sarcasm or joking. I take the all the hipster chillwave film shooters youtubers serious except for grainydays. Cheers
Do you self scan ?
I sure do friendo!
Kodak "Ultramax is cut from Fuji 400H" huh?
Obvious dumb joke ;)
yo let's meet up and do a video!

WHAT? What kind of Sorcery Is This? 7:30 mark! Ultra Max 400 is Fuji Pro 400H! Is This True?
Haha I thought it was an obvious joke but some people thought I was being serious!!
@@ThePhotoDept 😁😁😁😁😁
Too bad that Lomo 800 costs almost as much as Portra 800.
Almost but still a cost savings in quantity.
@@ThePhotoDept Yeah but Portra 800 is more flexible so it evens out for me.
@@VariTimo i'd argue i can get the same latitude out of both.
@@ThePhotoDept I’ll test the Fun Saver film soon. But I just shoot some latitude test with Portra 800 and well it’s Portra. Obviously overexposure works great. The film is most “performant” at 640 but you can also rate it at 1600 and basically get results that are very comparable to Fuji Superia 400 at 400 in terms of grain and shadow detail. But I’m very curious how the Fun Saver film will perform. I can’t believe you can just take out the film cartridge and put it in another camera.
@@VariTimo science baby
long ass intro, good video tho
Okay
Imo they dont really look alike at all. lomo800 looks more like portra400, and the funthing film looks exactly like ultramax pushed +1
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Lomo 400 is Ultramax? Absolutely not. Not even close.
Oh yeah? What’s your theory? You seem pretty sure.
@@ThePhotoDept Yap I’m pretty sure it’s not since they have very different color pallets. That’s not only my personal experience it’s also tested/documented by several people in comparisons of ISO 400 film stocks - even on TH-cam. So what Kodak film is Lomo 400? I have no idea but it’s obviously no Kodak film which is on the market right now so it could be a vintage formula.
@@hollywoodheiner6028 all i'm allowed to say is that you are incorrect.
@@ThePhotoDept haha of course... and bro: Fuji Pro 400H is actually Portra 400 but pshhhhht 🤫
@@hollywoodheiner6028 duh
if you aren't a dry-humored hipster who uses low-fi music in every video, do you even shoot film?
im sorry man im just trying to do what i enjoy.
Such a clickbait title. No comparisons made really. Smh
Sorry you feel that way. Seems you’re in the minority though.
