People give Lomography a hard time, but they are one of the few companies making film and still trying new things. In a few years, they might be the only ones left making film. They even make 110.
I really enjoy Lomography film, if it’s a reasonable price and the colours are pleasing, then I’ll always use it. I think with the current climate and companies looking for any excuse to discontinue film stocks, I think more now than ever that the community really needs to quit complaining which film is better and support all manufactures so we can all enjoy film for many years to come.
I tried this for the first time on a trip a couple weekends ago and loved the colors! I just ordered more rolls of 120 for a trip to Disney World. If there's anywhere you want vibrant colors, that's the place.
I love Lomo 400 film. I've been using it for years. The word from the people who worked in the Lomography Shop on 8th Street (no longer there, but there's one in Brooklyn), back about 10 years ago - is that Lomo 400 is repackaged Kodacolor Gold. Thanks for your videos - I always enjoy them!
Great video as always, you go way deeper into actual performance etc than any other film photography channel I've found and have great presence on camera. Keep at it mate and I hope to see your view counts reflecting the quality of your vids soon.
It is Kodak Ultramax. Good that we have still access to it. The caveat with rebranding other people's emulsions is the uncertainty of continuity. Adox, Rollei who regularly rebrand other people's old emulsions, and all of a sudden it becomes unavailable, are prime examples of this folly.
You are a class act Ribsy! Great compositions. The Lomo 400 is another alternative and will fill the breach left by 400H's exit. Besat guess I believe it is UltraMax 400.
I do wonder if certain film manufacturers/suppliers purposely keep supplies short. It seems to be the colour film suppliers that do this, including Kodak, Lomography and Cinestill. Black and white film is always available from people like Ilford and Fomopan. I guess it's the supply and demand curve: high demand plus low supply equals HIGH PRICES.
@@ribsy I guess I'm being cynical. The demand for film has exploded in recent years and gearing up manufacturing capacity to meet it takes time and is costly.
Ayo I was under the impression that lomo 100 is the old Kodak Gold 100 emulsion (I've shot both and that tracks), lomo 400 is again the old Kodak Gold 400 ultra repackaged, and lomo 800 is Kodak disposable camera film repackaged. If so, it's a great way to access older emulsions without shelling out for expired film.
I tried most of the lomo films and I have to say I'm stuck with lomo 800. Is so versatile and beautiful colors on 35mm and 120. This is the one film I always have 2 to 3 boxes..... Love the channel thank you for the content 📸💪💪💪
I've shot both Lomo 400 C-41 in 35mm and 120 over the years, I have a gut feeling theiy are different emulsions but I love the look I get out of both never the less.
i get adorable results with zeiss folder cameras and lomo 800 on medium format. price of the film in germany was same as kodak gold , half the price of portra
Great take on this film. Your work on the print at 6:39 really shows the range this film brings and I'll definitely look for it over here in Tokyo. Cheers, man.
I started shooting Lomography as it was the only colour film that my local photography store had in stock and I found I loved it. You can also get it in 800 iso which is great. The colours are awesome and unique. Personally, my favourite films are Fuji but sadly it seems that they are discontinuing all of their films. It definitely makes a nice change to always shooting Kodak Colour films. It's definitely similar to Kodak films but it's a lot cheaper. I think if all the colour films disappear Ilford won't be going anywhere! :)
haven't heard too much of lomo 400, but definitely heard everyone raving about lomo 800 & it's usually sold out lol few reviews i've seen and shot with lomo 800 i've loved the colors & the greens definitely pop. yea somewhere inbetween ultramax & ektar kinda
I haven't had a chance to compare it to Ultramax, but ayyy I really like Lomo 400! Very nice colors and a nice popping in film look. A few times I did have to digitally reduce a slight green tint but that may have been the lab's scanner tbh. I really like using it in general. Only had like 3 rolls shot with it thus far, but have ordered some more as well as the coveted 800. I do wish it were a touch cheaper here in Canada and came in packs of 5 but hey (35mm seems especially pricey but still cheaper than Portra albeit not by much). My one slight detrimental experience with it was when it snapped in my camera at the end of the roll, but thankfully it was easily recovered and nothing of value was lost (and it was probably my fault somehow anyway). Great vid as always!
I've looked into Lomo 400 a few times in 120, it seems it is only 0.20p odd cheaper than what a 5roll pack of Portra 160 is so I've just been sticking with that. Dude, those portraits are awesome! Love the colour warmer one. 😎🤘
I haven't used it so far, but if I ever see it for a decent price I'll give it a try. Right now $18.98 at Wal-Mart for a 3-pack of Superia 400 is hard to argue with.
I have had issues with Lomo 800 120. Light leaks, faulty film. Lomo 100 seemed to be fine for me. But I like the price of Lomo (obviously). Have you shot anymore 400 since this video? If so, have you experienced any light leaks or faulty film from the 400 line in 120?
@@ribsy Then I'm happy you havent had any issues like me! I even went as far to change my light seals, and run a 3200 film and had no issues with any light leaks or anything. I run Lomo 800 again, and nothing but issues.
@@ribsy I know and I have never shooted film, so i would love your advice: is Lomo going to produce a good very different look than ultramax? Or should I simply go for ultramax....?
Can I travel with this camera ? My film is already in the camera and I’m flying domestically. Don’t want the x rays to ruin the pictures Ive already taken
I really dig this stuff. It's kind of my go-to 400 in 120 now. I'm warming up to Portra 400 a bit, but I trust this much more. I'm starting to wonder if I prefer this over Ultramax, too. I think they are SLIGHTLY different, but I need to do a more detailed test of that.
I dont think lomo 400 is ultramax, it has a similar look tho but it ain't the same, I believe it is some of the old consumer grade kodak stuff that lomo buys in bigger rolls to spool it down to 120 and 35mm rolls.
It's a stock that's just known as "Kodak Color Negative 400". Similarly, there are also Kodak CN 100, 200, and 800 film stocks. These are likely older generations of Gold or similar, and they were found in many disposable cameras back in the day. You can actually figure this out by decoding the DX Code on the film strip (the barcodes below the frames). Basically, if you were a company that wanted to sell disposable cameras back in the day, you could go to Kodak and they would provide you with those stocks as options to put in those disposables. They still make them, and Lomography sells those under their brand as normal Color Negative films. It's just a shame they can't seem to make solid 120 rolls, a lot of people have light leak problems with them.
one year is gone and kodak is going crazy, when kodak stops film making, lomography has also no more film? ..... normally fuji film must use the chance to take over the analog industry...BM

I used lomo 100 400 and 800 , it's a super family of films ,I thoroughly recommend it .

I think it's " Kodak VR Plus 100 / 400 " . Got some boxes of 120 film in the freezer, both the CN100 and the CN400. I really like it.

one of my favorite films is lomography 800 120 film. Best colors if you overexposed 1 or 2 stop, but good reults in low light at nominal 800 iso!
interesting. i find i don't like the look of overexposed color film
I agree. It's a very underrated film that produces exceptional results - particularly in medium format.
Yea the medium format shots were stellar. The grain smoothens just enough and the colors pop!

I'm getting the impression that 35mm Lomography 400 as well as100 and 800 are the modern-day equivalent of store brand films .
