- On this Q&A video I respond to several viewer questions, including whether the new Monochrome Black Bay has won me over my desire for a no-date Rolex Submariner. Plus several other topics!

Greatly enjoyed this, Dennis! Loved your analysis of the new monochrome BB vs the Sub. I have a no date 114060, and I cannot lie, the Tudor made me wonder if I should move into the Date Sub instead for great polarity. However, I just don’t know if I want to be yet another guy at the airport with a date sub. The no date is just a rarer watch to see. Maybe a good thing?
I don't try to be contrarian with my watch picks but I do admit I get annoyed with myself if I am drawn to a watch that everyone likes (but that's what happened with the Rolex Sub... my preference for no-date is just for symmetry plus I have plenty of date watches). If I were going for a Date Sub it would need to be a color other than black (like the blue two-tone)... then I could forgive myself!
The new bb41 s are wearing a lot smaller than the previous. The case is 40.5mm
I just got monochrome and sub. Monochrome was smaller than I thought it would be. It fits really well. It is thicker than sub. The one thing I don’t like about the monochrome is the dome Chrystal. Monochrome feels a little cheaper but overall amazing watch.
Thanks for the comparative information!
I have the 124060 and also the new BB41 on the 5 link ( jubilee ). I have to say, the BB41 is incredible and has become my daily. It is really amazing. Does not wear big.
Good to know, I'll see about trying one on next time I'm at the dealer. I had the 43mm BB Bronze and I've tried on the 58 line but haven't one of the 41mm models.
I had a chance to try on the new BB 41 while it looks great and feel good on the wrist it just cannot replace the sub . The sub is built better and is way more iconic plus its value retention will always be there. If you want a sub do not by the BB41 as a replacement it will not work. By all means buy what you love
this is so true. There are going to be a number of folks that are going to sell these in 6-12 months because it just won't satisfy the Rolex desire if that's the one you truly want.
I just saw a side by side and the thickness is only noticeable because of the crystal.
Hi Dennis I hope you get your Submariner soon! I got mine last summer and absolutely love it and consciously went with the "no date" version to really have the TRUE Rolex Submariner watch.
Spot on with size. They are not the same to wear.
Your Omega is closer.
If I didn't have a 124060, I would be all over the BB41 monochrome, not gonna lie. But then again, I would be settling. Be patient and buy what you really want. Go grey if neded be to avoid the AD games. I've settled before and learned my lesson the hard way.
Ceramic: yes, someone broke a link in the bracelet of their AP Royal Oak Tourbillon, so it definitely is not related to the price of the watch.
I was on the waitlist at 3 different stores for the Rolex Sub. Over 1 year later, nothing. And one AD implied I had to buy other stuff to move up the list. I had to take a shower when I got home. I guess if you are fine with being manipulated on a wait list and have to have a Rolex I can see why waiting for one. Not me. Tudor is a good watch which happens to be less expensive.
Fair point. I won't buy stuff to move up a list. If they want to allocate then I'll buy or I'll get tired of waiting and buy the Breguet instead. The nice thing is it isn't like the other watches are going anywhere (I've bought two this year already).
Great answers! I’ll make sure to ask a question for the next one. Also, I really like collection reviews. Funny and serious combination is best! Just not mean please 😂
Hmmm, funny without being mean. More challenging. Maybe a pseudo-psycho analysis of the owner. "Looking at your collection of six black-dial watches I can only assume that you spent your high school years listening to My Chemical Romance while complaining about your mom not taking you to Hot Topic that week." Might still be too mean, I'll work on it.
@@WatcheswithDennis that’s absolutely perfect. Yes. Yes. Yes.
I feel the same way about Tudor vs Sub. They look very similar but totally diff watches. The heritage diff is enough for me to say the Sub is irreplaceable.
If I were to get another Tudor it would probably be one of the 58s. I really like the silver one but cheaping out with a display caseback (showing off one of the most undecorated movements this side of a Seiko 5) annoyed me too much to pull the trigger.
Market analysis is more for people who are enthusiastic about money, not necessarily watches, I've found. Collection reviews would be fun, given your sense of humour.
Perhaps if I flagged it as a straight-up roast so everyone understands. I don't want to make anyone sad about what they bought so if everyone is clear on the intentions it could work. I like roasts.
@@WatcheswithDennis "I proclaim this collection a score of 4 out of 5 dead models in a plastic lawnchair!"
BB41 monochrome is lovely for the money but, the size and lack of ceramic bezal/dial really differentiates the watches. Also a few months down the line it will no long be flavour of the month! I’m gonna keep to the original lol
They say Tudor is the poor mans Rolex, I say Rolex is a boring version of a Tudor. Breguet cases are chefs kiss mmwoa!
I have wanted to check out the sizing. I have considered some of their larger cases like 38mm that I am sure will wear fine so I have a few Breguet under consideration at this point. I like their yellow gold styling a lot (I think they keep it classy unlike a certain recently revealed Rolex Deepsea).
On this basis then every watch is a poor man's Rolex if it has lesser value. Rolex is boring as fuck. I have a couple and they are just so stale. Only hold them really cos it's easy cash access
If you give collection reviews a try, try something funny or crass. Watchyoutube is bloated with boring collection reviews which are, at yhis point, a self-congratulatory exercise. Ive seen "watch collection roasts" which do not roast anything.
See I love roasts so to me those seem the most fun. If someone already bought a watch reviewing it is kind of pointless (they already made their decision) plus I do that for all my watches (as full review videos) plus I tend to give my "real" reaction thoughts on my First Thoughts videos on watches I haven't handled.
