Hey Hey! Thanks for checking it out! 😁👊 miRack has gotten a bunch of updates in the past couple of years and is even better now with even more modules, too! WOOT!
I really think this THE deepest app on iOS for music making. My problem is that my 9.7” screen feels too small to be working with miRack. I have never felt the need for a huge iPad screen as much since using miRack. Hilarious really that this also runs on an iPhone. Good point about gettng going with a project that keeps getting bigger. That is how i started with one of your tutorial synths and just kept building on that as well. Hardest thing for me with miRack was getting started. I owned it for a while but just had almost no clue really where or how to start hahah. Felt so overwhelming that i sort of avoided it for a while. I also got it on sale like you and i think it is an incredible value if you realize what you get for those few dollars. Also one of the first apps i actually use my Apple pencil for as well lol. It really comes in handy now with miRack.
+27 for the Apple Pencil with MiRack!! lol Seriously though, the Apple pencil makes this sooooo much easier to get into these *tiny* little buttons! ❤️ Agreed about this being likely the deepest music app on iPad! You could literally build anything - from a crazy powerful synth, to a self-generating ambient soundtrack making thing, to a monster hybrid drum machine, to a massive groovebox to make full jams with!
Good stuff, yes, more MiRack please. App Of The Year for me. Worth noting that the VCV Rack tutorials are also a good starting point as some modules are shared. Runs great on my first gen iPad Pro too. Steady stream of updates and new modules too.
Thanks for watching! It's *great* to hear that it runs well on your first gen iPad Pro! Excellent! 😀 👊 I was trying it on my AIR 2 this evening and was quite surprised at how well it was handling it as well! This is so cool! 👍👍
Great video man thanks for sharing! I’d also recommend looking at TH-cam tutorials for VCV rack as there is a lot more out there in terms of beginner style tutorials.
I'm using the 2019 12.9 iPad Pro. It works with pretty much any iPad, even an older iPad AIR 2, but you won't get to use the Apple pencil with an older one... Did you have a question?
@@ElectronisoundsAudio I was asking because I got my new iPad pro 12.9” in the mail today. Do you know if I can physically patch synths into the app with an audio interface connected to the iPad?
@@laughingthrushmusic5269 Yes! You sure can! It has an "Audio Input" module that allows you to select from the inputs on your audio interface! Woot! 😀 👊
Are you new to iPad music making? Check out (The Sound Test Room) and (Jakob Haq) and (Mobile Music Pro) Channels - must have info on those for iPad music makers. 👊
This is awesome. I was wondering when there would be a VCV rack treatment for the iPad. I doubt my late 2017 iPad, however is going to get much mileage with this app. Top job Dean.
Hey Hey, Jim! 😀 👊 I was surprised actually when I tried to run this last night on my iPad AIR 2! You don't get the use of the Apple Pencil, but it was running surprisingly well! 😲 I would say for the price, you could definitely give it a go on an older pad to be able to check it out. WOOT! Somebody was saying that it was running ok for them on a 1st edition iPad Pro. Not bad! 😃
I have a 2017 iPad and I’m having a blast with miRack. I probably can’t get as much going as someone with the latest Pro but still having a great time exploring.
@@loranpittman Awesome!! 👊 If you've got a favorite module (or two... lol), please let me know so I can check them out! 😀 So many modules in here! WOW!!! 🤤
My current two favorite modules are the Audible Instruments Modal Synthesizer and JW Modules XY Pad. While the XY Pad is listed as a LFO under Tags, it can be used to create long compositions. I’ve used it for long evolving pieces over 5 minutes, not sure if there’s a length limit. I also really like NYSTHI SevenSeas Wavetable VCO. Love your videos, super helpful, infectious and encouraging!
Great purchase! something like Mirack has been a dream of mine ever since I got into iOS music years ago. the only thing that holds a candle to it is Audulus 3 - but Mirack is obviously more powerful for music production with its sampling ability and more powerful modules out of the box.
Do you think an iPad Air1 is enough for having a drumloop from a sampler, a sequencer, and a normal synth? I’m not into making a whole track in it just some synth lines against a drumloop to get the feel :)
I wish I could answer that, but I'm not sure. 👊 I don't have an AIR 1, it runs ok on my AIR 2, but definitely would be nice to have the apple pencil which doesn't work with the older iPads...
@@ElectronisoundsAudio thanks mate, I know i have to buy a newer ipad some day, but its really expensive from here. i wrote you a DM too on insta if you would check it
Hey Dean! First of all, congratulations with hitting more than 5k subscribers! MiRack seems like a very useful music production application. I’m not too familiar with modular synthesis but I’m more than happy and willing to dig into it with this app. I’m gonna buy it immediately! Thanks 🙏 for sharing this video. Greetings, Emiel.
Thanks for watching, Emiel! 😀 👊 I've got a playlist right here with all of my mirack videos so far: th-cam.com/play/PLK5Ai5ysFp2v7YmCDLCHdFRIu4ZKU4G7h.html
Awesome app, just got it, didn’t even know it existed. The best modular app UI ever. Somehow they managed to make all those cables *not* feel overwhelming. The cables don’t obstruct the view and are perfect balance between seeing them and... not seeing them ;) This app can be used as a sound generator (synth) or as FX by loading it as IAA, to process incoming sound. Which means you can design some very unique fx...
Haven’t seen grey option, but hiding is available in settings you’re right. But the cables are slightly translucent by default so I don’t even hide them ever because they don’t obstruct the view. Nicely done (something I can’t say for Model 15)
Hey Dean, how would you compare drambo and mirack? Worth investing time in both or maybe one over the other? P.S. Thanks for a great video :) Cheers Troy
Hey Hey, Troy! 😀 👊 Sorry, but I haven't explored Drambo, so it's hard to compare. I would guess that Drambo is more of it's own environment though(?), meaning not based on actual, real-world modules like a lot of the MiRack ones are. (So learning those might help if you ever decide to go into real-world modular... ) I would guess that MiRack will keep getting more modules added as well. Heard that Drambo is super fun too, though - just never hours in the day to play with it all... 😁
Electronisounds Audio thanks for getting back to me dean your thoughts are spot on. I’ve downloaded it lucky it’s the weekend as there are a lot of fun modules to play with :). Keep up the great work :)
Looks really cool, the learning curve might put me off, whilst at the same time I would love to get my feet wet. Your demos are inspiring and show the rack for more of its possibilities, not just sqeaks and burps. Got IVC3 recently but not fired it up much so I worry this might be the same. That said I satarted my interest owning a Moog Prodigy and a Roland JV80, that coupled with a Travelling scolarship to the Radiophonics workshop in 1980 set me off with a passion. Cheers Dean I would love to know more!
This is definitely doable! 😀 👊 If I can learn it, You can too! I'm going very simple and slow in my tutorials so far because i'm still a beginner at modular as well. Second tutorial is finishing uploading right now! 👍
Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 Yes! This definitely has a lot of things in common with Reaktor! (uh-oh....wait a second, I *have* Reaktor.... !! 😏 🤔) Too much good stuff and never enough hours in the day to play with all of it!! 🤤🤤🤤
Electronisounds Audio Reaktor is huge I agree :) The main difference between the miRack and the Reaktor - the wires type. Reaktor is much more schematic, but miRack is ... Rack :) Anyway we need to watch out for our hours with this guys!
Very great work you are doing, been watching many of your videos and also bought your DT Banks, all this is helping me and many others getting further in this electronic Music World. Thanks :) Keep doing this.🌺🎹
You've probably worked this out by now, but connect any module with a reset to your clock this will keep everyhting in time as sometmes you have to press reset on your clock as you add alot of modules. The run will stop anything that is connected to the clock in that port. This can be useful to bring modules in and out of the mix. A great channel on youtube to learn is" Talking Rackheads". Nigel takes you through at a very easy pace, that's where i started.
I have the model 15, Sometimes the sounds are a bit harsh but you can make great patches and is just a bit more simple i guess. A lot of patches do sound cold to me or vintage in a bad way and some things are ok but are done better by an oberheim. I am not an expert but i would go for mirack. And for ripplemaker; i didnt like any of their presets.
Thanks Chris! 😀 👊 Yeah, this is pretty new to me still as well, so i'm trying to go extra slow and easy-to-follow in the tutorials so far! i find it pretty confusing, too - so i'm not trying to learn it all right at once. Going to need some *time* for the true depth of this. 👍
Exciting! Didn't I tell you a while ago that I was getting very interested in modular as hardware? And didn't we say how dangerously expensive it would get very quickly? So this is a very exciting compromise! The only downside and huge obstacle with this for me is the internet requirement. I'm never anywhere near an internet connection when I'm working on the iPad, be it somewhere out and about or at home! The only thing I could do as a workaround is to tether my iPad to my iPhone and use my 4G connection, although I have limited data allowance to 5GB/month. But I'm assuming once a saved project has been downloaded, or once the required modules have been downloaded to play with, the app should not require further internet access just to fiddle around with the downloaded modules? I would only need to tether again briefly to download any additional modules as required, right? What do you think, mate? Anyway, I would certainly be interested to follow your adventures in modular! Good luck, mate! :-)
Thanks for watching, Buddy! It turns out - I was *DEAD WRONG* about it not working when you have no internet! A friend was having an issue, so I thought that was the case, but another viewer told me nope, you don't need it!! Sooo... I turned off my wi-fi on the iPad and it still loaded just fine!! YAY!! Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 This one is pretty fun and sweet! It seems almost limitless to what we can do with it! 🤓👍 I'd say it's more for experimentation, getting lost in sound and *having fun*, more than it is for making "finished tracks". (Although you can do that, too - if you get deep enough!)
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! Yes, I am 100% self-taught. My #1 tip is to *stick with it*! 😀 👊 There is so much to learn that it can easily get overwhelming sometimes along the journey. I started my journey around 1996 when there was no TH-cam to learn from, and we are so lucky now to have everything we could need to learn about electronic music production freely available here on TH-cam! EPIC! If you are serious about trying to learn, You'll need to pick a computer (or iPad) DAW that appeals to you, or a hardware sampler/workstation like the AKAI MPC Live or AKAI Force to actually build the music with. There are advantages to hardware and advantages to software, you'll have to pick which one best suits what you want to achieve. Then, you'll want to find *multiple* TH-cam channels that make content relevant to your chosen tools/workflow. I find the absolute best way to follow along in the beginning, it to pause the tutorial videos every few seconds and actually *do* what they just did. Follow along, as it were - and then it starts to make sense after you've been doing it more. There is so much here to learn, you just have to *stick with it* because it takes a lot of time! 😀 👊
Absolutely - Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/cAyliIa_wXs/w-d-xo.html 😀👊 But, even better - here is a playlist of *all* my miRack videos (this app is *awesome*!): th-cam.com/play/PLK5Ai5ysFp2v7YmCDLCHdFRIu4ZKU4G7h.html
Hey Hey! It's not the same developer, but it is basically the same software I think. This is somehow sort of an iOS port of VCV Rack, but with less modules and a few other differences. They are different developers, but I'm not 100% clear on the actual details. 😁👊
@@ruxiwang9571 No, it's not identical. It has less modules and a few other **minor** differences. Basically, it's the same, but not exactly the same. No commercial modules for Mirack, and a lot less modules in general. You can't load Mirack patches in VCV rack, etc... It's not the same developer as VCV Rack. 😀 👊
Hey Hey, Thomas! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 I'm sorry, but I do not have any experience personally with Audulus. Still very new to modular in general... 👊
Audulus has modules, but you can go inside those modules and redesign them... theoretically. But UI is so horrible that it’s just not fun to use at all. Great concept though. Some of the things wrong with Audulus UI include ability to operate controls (knobs, connecting cables etc) at a certain arbitrary zoom level. And most importantly very little info on the components some nodes do have labels like reverb, others don’t. So you load up someone’s patch and staring at all these boxes most of which make no sense whatsoever, making figuring out what’s going on completely impossible unless you memorized those shapes by heart. And then there are little things, like abbreviating things to a single lowercase letter “o“ for Output, “g” for gate. Is that really necessary? All those things destroy readability. Unless you’re very very dedicated to spending a lot of time and effort to learn all of this... Personally, I don’t see the point of making something that’s already difficult to understand, unnecessarily more confusing.
I was about to go into FULMINATE BEAST MODE over the “need internet to use” blah blah blaaahh for a PAID app but I’m a comment reader and…I can cool my J57s now. 😄😄
Hey Hey Danny! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 I get the similarity with Reason and how Reason uses cables to connect things in the back. The routing aspect of this is indeed very similar! This goes much deeper though, in that you are building with the actual *different* individual components for oscillators, filters, effects, etc. as opposed to "finished" already built samplers and synthesizers. Speaking of Reason though.... It's been updated to work as a plugin *inside of Ableton* (and other DAW's, too!) now! 😲 👍 I have been Gassing for it since that update, and had to again talk myself out of grabbing it on Black Friday sale.... lol
@@ElectronisoundsAudio Being from Boston, it makes me feel like I'm hanging out in a friend's man cave. If you start sprinkling in "wicked weeuhd"s it'll be wicked weird.

How did I waste your time? I said the very first thing that I was not going to get into *tutorials* in this video, and that it was just an overview of the app (which it is...) I also said that i'm not a Modular expert - right in the beginning. I'm not sure how introducing a new app to my viewers that I am excited about is an ego trip. This is literally what my channel is about.

I would suggest trying watching a different one that might interest you. And I can promise you there is no ego trip by him!
@Rance Moest: Are you new to this channel? For the past few years, Dean has been putting his heart and soul into bringing us the most in-depth, technical tutorials and so generously sharing his wealth of high level music production knowledge for *free* on TH-cam. If you perceive this presentation as an “ego trip”, it can only be because psychologically and technically it threatens your current lower level abilities, and you reluctantly realise this guy is coming from a much higher skill level that you can only dream of reaching, instead of humbly being inspired and enthused at seeing/hearing what can be done with something in the right hands and admitting you could obviously learn a lot from this guy. The video clearly said, “no tutorial”, just an introduction and demonstration to whet your appetite and show you what can be done. The video and comments clearly say, “tutorials to follow”. This type of demonstration does not deserve to be viewed as an “ego trip”, but a chance to realise you could better your knowledge and skill level by dropping your own ego first, listening properly, following and learning from an experienced and expert sound designer and music producer. Jacket on...jacket off...jacket on...jacket off....

It's *great* to hear that it runs well on your first gen iPad Pro! Excellent! 😀 👊
I was trying it on my AIR 2 this evening and was quite surprised at how well it was handling it as well! This is so cool! 👍👍
@@ElectronisoundsAudioThe MiRack dev has done a great job optimising the code.
Great video man thanks for sharing! I’d also recommend looking at TH-cam tutorials for VCV rack as there is a lot more out there in terms of beginner style tutorials.
Excellent! Agreed. VCV rack tutorials can be most helpful (especially as I have so much to learn about modular!!) 😀 👊
Dean, thank you. Now I am hooked ;-) Looking forward to learn with/from you!
Hey Hey, Markus! 😀 👊
I've only figured out a few beginner-level things so far, but this is *way too cool* not to share with everyone! 💙

Hey hey! If you double tap on the module, you can choose "Manage" and then delete. 👊

@@ElectronisoundsAudio Sweet! You're the best Dean!
Is this the 12.9 ipad? Hard to tel
I was surprised actually when I tried to run this last night on my iPad AIR 2!
You don't get the use of the Apple Pencil, but it was running surprisingly well! 😲
I would say for the price, you could definitely give it a go on an older pad to be able to check it out. WOOT!
Somebody was saying that it was running ok for them on a 1st edition iPad Pro. Not bad! 😃
I have a 2017 iPad and I’m having a blast with miRack. I probably can’t get as much going as someone with the latest Pro but still having a great time exploring.

So many modules in here! WOW!!! 🤤
My current two favorite modules are the Audible Instruments Modal Synthesizer and JW Modules XY Pad. While the XY Pad is listed as a LFO under Tags, it can be used to create long compositions. Hi , can you upload this patch ?
Sorry, I'm not uploading the MiRack patches - the point is for you to follow along (one step at a time) so you can learn how to use it 🤗😁👊
Great purchase! something like Mirack has been a dream of mine ever since I got into iOS music years ago. the only thing that holds a candle to it is Audulus 3 - but Mirack is obviously more powerful for music production with its sampling ability and more powerful modules out of the box.
Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
I feel like a kid in a candy store with all these modules! 🤤
Do you think an iPad Air1 is enough for having a drumloop from a sampler, a sequencer, and a normal synth? I’m not into making a whole track in it just some synth lines against a drumloop to get the feel :)
I wish I could answer that, but I'm not sure. 👊
I don't have an AIR 1, it runs ok on my AIR 2, but definitely would be nice to have the apple pencil which doesn't work with the older iPads...
@@ElectronisoundsAudio thanks mate, I know i have to buy a newer ipad some day, but its really expensive from here.

I've got a playlist right here with all of my mirack videos so far: th-cam.com/play/PLK5Ai5ysFp2v7YmCDLCHdFRIu4ZKU4G7h.html
Awesome app, just got it, didn’t even know it existed. The best modular app UI ever. Somehow they managed to make all those cables *not* feel overwhelming. The cables don’t obstruct the view and are perfect balance between seeing them and... not seeing them ;)
This app can be used as a sound generator (synth) or as FX by loading it as IAA, to process incoming sound. Which means you can design some very unique fx...
Hey...as I know with the last update or the one before it’s possible to make them grey and even hide them☺️
Haven’t seen grey option, but hiding is available in settings you’re right. But the cables are slightly translucent by default so I don’t even hide them ever because they don’t obstruct the view. Nicely done (something I can’t say for Model 15)
Looking forward to this series. Omri Cohen has a lot of great tutorials for vcv rack which is the same thing ... except on pc open source and free.
Thanks, Brad! I totally subbed to his channel. Huuuge amount of content! Excellent! 😀 👊
Hey Dean, how would you compare drambo and mirack? Worth investing time in both or maybe one over the other? P.S. Thanks for a great video :) Cheers Troy
Hey Hey, Troy! 😀 👊
Sorry, but I haven't explored Drambo, so it's hard to compare.
I would guess that Drambo is more of it's own environment though(?),
meaning not based on actual, real-world modules like a lot of the MiRack ones are.
(So learning those might help if you ever decide to go into real-world modular... )
I would guess that MiRack will keep getting more modules added as well.

You've probably worked this out by now, but connect any module with a reset to your clock this will keep everyhting in time as sometmes you have to press reset on your clock as you add alot of modules.
The run will stop anything that is connected to the clock in that port. This can be useful to bring modules in and out of the mix.

Between mirack and the model 15 app, I am determined to make some cool noises with modular
OH YEAH!! You Got This!! 🤗😁👊
Top video, I'd love to learn more about it from beginner level, always wanted to get into it, tried VCV but it all got too confusing 😀
Thanks Chris! 😀 👊
Yeah, this is pretty new to me still as well, so i'm trying to go extra slow and easy-to-follow in the tutorials so far!
i find it pretty confusing, too - so i'm not trying to learn it all right at once.
Going to need some *time* for the true depth of this. 👍
@@ElectronisoundsAudio perfect pace for me

This one is pretty fun and sweet! It seems almost limitless to what we can do with it! 🤓👍

Are you and autodidact?
and if so
whats your tips for people who wanna teach themselves electronic music?
Thanks
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching!
Yes, I am 100% self-taught.
My #1 tip is to *stick with it*! 😀 👊
There is so much to learn that it can easily get overwhelming sometimes along the journey.
Can this make synth sounds that you play with a midi-keyboard
Absolutely - Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/cAyliIa_wXs/w-d-xo.html 😀👊
But, even better - here is a playlist of *all* my miRack videos (this app is *awesome*!): th-cam.com/play/PLK5Ai5ysFp2v7YmCDLCHdFRIu4ZKU4G7h.html
Holy.Shit.

i wonder is this the same developer as VCVRACK
Hey Hey! It's not the same developer, but it is basically the same software I think.
This is somehow sort of an iOS port of VCV Rack, but with less modules and a few other differences. They are different developers, but I'm not 100% clear on the actual details. 😁👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio yeah it is an identical clone of vcvrack
@@ruxiwang9571 No, it's not identical. It has less modules and a few other **minor** differences. Basically, it's the same, but not exactly the same. No commercial modules for Mirack, and a lot less modules in general. You can't load Mirack patches in VCV rack, etc... It's not the same developer as VCV Rack. 😀 👊
@@ElectronisoundsAudio yes you are right : )
How does that compare to Audulus?
Hey Hey, Thomas! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
I'm sorry, but I do not have any experience personally with Audulus.
@@emil-9432 Those are very good points!! 😀 👊
I was about to go into FULMINATE BEAST MODE over the “need internet to use” blah blah blaaahh for a PAID app but I’m a comment reader and…I can cool my J57s now. 😄😄

Hey Hey Danny! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊
I get the similarity with Reason and how Reason uses cables to connect things in the back.

I said the very first thing that I was not going to get into *tutorials* in this video, and that it was just an overview of the app (which it is...)
I also said that i'm not a Modular expert - right in the beginning.
I'm not sure how introducing a new app to my viewers that I am excited about is an ego trip.
This is literally what my channel is about.
Rance Moest obviously you haven’t watched any other videos from electronisounds, this video straight up says what it is. Electronisounds video are extremely thorough and full of information.
