My 3RZ ( 2000 Taco 4x4 ) head finally cracked after 22 yrs and 375,000 miles. I just bought a brand new original Toyota head stuffed with all upgrades: Supertech valves, better valve springs, keepers & Viton valve seats that are far more durable than teflon. I also bought a master engine rebuild kit, and balance shaft delete kit. ALL parts from LC Engineering. WARNING: LC Engineering says they haven't found a good aftermarket head yet for this engine. That's why they only sell the all original, new Toyota heads for these. Buy the bare casting or fully assembled in different stages of performance. A balance shaft delete is highly recommended, because of the balance shaft bearings wear out, the balance shaft will score the block, making the block worthless. Other than that, this block was cast with high nickle content, and is near bullet proof......along with the forged crank & rods........these engines are well worth keeping. GET RID OF THOSE BALANCE SHAFTS!!!

That's wild, in all my years wrenching I have never seen a valve burned like that. It must have been running crappy and real hot at some point.

Wouldn't surprise me if the head was warp'd or there was other heat related problems

@Mark Anthony The block is cast iron, but the head is aluminum.

Is a crackhead and or a bad head gasket, the most common calls for a misfire

I have a cylinder 1 misfire but sometimes it runs fine and then other times it only runs on 3 cylinders. It runs fine when I first drive it but after I go somewhere it will run all crappy. I've swapped the coil packs, replaced the spark plugs and sprayed soapy water on the wires to see if it's arcing. I think it's an injector because I ran it really low on fuel and then started having these misfires. I would think that if my valve was burnt out it would run bad all the time.

Do a compression test! Don’t waste time or money on anything else yet!

Looks like it ran hot for some reason to cause all of the problems Was hoping for you have better luck with head. Just keep researching on line and should find one .

I know I'm very late coming to this video, but see my other comment. I forgot to say: LC Engineering doesn't do any "core exchanges". Their all original, brand new Toyota heads are pricey........but when that cheap aftermarket head fails, all that money you thought you saved goes down the drain.

When replacing a head and/or rebuilding one of these 3RZ engines, you should ALWAYS buy new head bolts, AND new studs for the intake and exhaust manifolds.

"A 200,000 mile throw away engine". That's a load of bunk. The cast iron block for these 3RZ's has extremely high nickle content, and is a near bullet proof block. ( So long as you do a balance shaft delete, because the balance shaft bearings can wear, causing the balance shaft to score the block. If that happens, the block is done. ) AND WITH A FORGED CRANK & RODS. I bought my 2000 Taco 4x4 with 3RZFE engine & auto trans brand new. 22 yrs later, the head finally cracked at 375,000 miles. And I know a few people who have over 500,000 miles on the original engine & drive train. I just bought a brand new original factory Toyota head with upgraded valves ( by Supertech ), upgraded valve springs, keepers, with Viton valve seals that are far more durable than teflon........along with a master rebuild kit from LC Engineering. The head comes fully loaded & assembled by LC Engineering. I'll drive this truck another 375,000+ miles with the upgrades. I wouldn't call that "a 200,000 mile throw away engine".......not at all.
