Absolutely love doing hikes and camps down in that scenic rim/adjacent areas. I really resonated with what you said about realising how many amazing places there are to explore in our own backyard; Also the whole philosophy around not needing to run far away to fulfil a desire to explore. I live only ~3 hours from the QLD/NSW border area and I also only had that same realisation recently. With all that being said, if you've got any solid mountain summit hike recommendations, I would love to hear them!
Love to hear it! Definitely some profound philosophical realization to be had which I find often only happens when I'm out in nature, able to detach from day to day life even if for a short while. Regarding summit hikes I haven't done all too many. A good recommendation is Mt Mitchell at Cunningham's Gap which I did a video on a while back (although I think it might be closed right now due to the roadworks at the gap). Bald Rock Summit hike near Tenterfield, NSW as well as the Pyramid at Girraween National Park are climbs I enjoyed more recently. For the future would like to have a crack at Wilson's Peak and Mt Superbus, plus lots more in the Scenic Rim which I've barely touched. Always so much more to explore!
@@YotopianWanderer Yeah I find the older I am getting, the more I am starting to really appreciate these opportunities to detach from the '''world''' and simply just exist and be present and to explore all of these amazing places. (Although I'm only mid 20's, hardly old yet!). I camped south of Tenterfield a few weeks ago actually, and drove past Bald Rock on the way down! I thought it looked like it would be a pretty fun walk. Wilson's Peak looks very appealing to me! That'll be my next hike now, thanks for mentioning it :) If like me you enjoy a good rock scramble, I recently climbled Mount Maroon (~20minutes west from Rathdowney), and that was a fantastic walk.
That makes two of us! I'm only 23 haha. I imagine as time goes on the call of the wild to continue exploring places away from the hustle and chaos of modern society will only intensify. I grew up on the Gold Coast so did many hikes in and around the Hinterland, plus around the Southerns Downs/Granite Belt where I live now. Mostly overlooked the Scenic Rim, lots of hidden gems there it seems. Mount Maroon and Mount Barney are definitely also on my list also!
I was following you on Google Maps' sat pics. The gate that you found is quite a way south of Trough Creek Road, which would come out at the campground, but you should be able to walk in on Acacia Plateau Road from its endpoint of vehicular accessibility in NSW, then all the way through. Before hiking in an area without cellular service, you might save screenshots of pertinent maps and sat pics onto your phone or print them on paper.
Yes that's a good ideas to save screenshots. I also downloaded offline maps which should make it easier to navigate. Next time will definitely drive up Acacia Plateau Road as far as I can and hike the rest of the way to find Trough Creek Road
Great to see someone talking of history of the fence.
Such an amazing spot to hike in, and a great bit of history. I love the old trees. Looking forward to the next part.
