    Hi Natasha, loved the video, really interesting insight into freelance Project Management. I’m a young PM thinking of starting out in freelance, I just wondered what you would suggest as a good starting point. I have set up all the HMRC stuff and set up on Malt (is it any good?) and what tools are good for starting out E.g. Monday boards etc.
    P.s. sorry for the lengthy comment 😂 keep up the good work

      Hey Thomas, thanks so much and love the question!
      So, I haven't used Malt before, but I would say a good starting point is definitely LinkedIn. If you haven't got an account already then defo get on there. It's where I find most of my freelance roles. I would suggest to start connecting with lots of recruiters who specialise in freelance PM roles within your chosen sector. Most recruiters now post all of their live roles on LinkedIn, so you can comment on the post with your interest or drop them a DM and take it from there.
      In terms of tools, there are so many different PM tools - Monday.com, Trello, Workfront etc however when you're in your new freelance role, the likelihood is that the company will have their own PM tool and process in place. Essentially, you wouldn't really have to use your own tool. Someone from the company will go through that tool with you so that you know how to use it (then you can add all the tools you use onto your CV). At the same time, there is no harm in setting up an account with Monday.com and jumping on a free trial just to familiarise yourself with it.
      Hope this helps :)

    Hi Natasha, I watched one of your videos and I'm hooked. Thank you. I'm potentially about to embark on my first PM role, no prior experience and really anxious about delivering successfully. Could you talk through how I could pick up PM knowledge very quickly, enough to get settled in and not to appear as though I'm in over my head. I'm guessing it would be good to know some of the common structures to expect, engagements and lingo.

    • @natashamcampbell
      @natashamcampbell  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's great news, well done! Every role and PM sector is different, if you're a PM in IT then some of the common lingo will be different to being a PM in gaming for example. If I were you, I would ask my line manager if there is some kind of on-boarding doc which lists out a typical project lifecycle (which i'd like to think most companies have) and if they don't have one then who ever is training / onboarding you - write down everything they say so you can digest the process. Take lots of notes. Also, ask if you can shadow another PM on a project and study everything they do, how they lead meetings, how they communicate with the project team etc this will give you a good understanding of how to manage comms effectively yourself. Lastly, don't be afraid to ask questions, whether that be to your line manager or another more senior PM, just ask away. Even now, I am always asking questions if I am unsure of something, you will be expected to ask questions especially as a newbie so go for it. If you do make a mistake (which everyone does) don't beat yourself up about it, just learn from it so you avoid that same mistake again. Hope that help x

    Hi Natasha so happy I came across your channel. I currently considering make the shift to freelancing world. I am currently in events but want to pivot into construction. I already have a limited company and a chartered accountant so feel outside IR35 will be a nice fit for me but naturally have worries - as a so used to working in permeant roles. My question is once you go IR35 can you go back lol. Can I take a permeant role during those quiet periods as a freelancer?. Please keep sharing your content, as before your channel fell in my lap I didn't event think of going down the freelancer route. So thank you :)

      Aww bless you! Thanks for your comment so sorry I have taken forever to reply. Of course you can - you just need to make sure your accountant is on top of it all, but yes I have worked both outside IR35 and inside in a year. I think if I was consistently working inside IR35 or had a perm job I would be more inclined to close my Ltd company as certain tax documents would still need to be legally filed annually. Hope this helped x

    So glad your focused on the right thing "making money". All the people missin the real target and be complainin about how they cant enjoy their life and workin all the time. If you focus on "money" and askin what you deserve, eventually your going to get the money to be happy. No body cares about you but you. Not going to do any favors coz when it comes to choppin you be out anyways so whats the use. Deliver Value and collect the check.

    how do you get clients and what certification do you have?

    • @natashamcampbell
      @natashamcampbell  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Recruiters have been the most useful in helping me get clients. They do the hard work for me. You can also use sites like Fiverr / Upwork for freelance gigs. I also like to use LinkedIn as most companies use it and you can connect directly with the hiring managers and recruiters. I am also PRINCE2 certified.

    Hello. I’m in the states and went to school for film production . How does one enter into the industry of project management for Film?

    • @natashamcampbell
      @natashamcampbell  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, I'm not really familiar with the film industry although that does sound very exciting. I would suggest speaking with a recruitment agent who specialises in the film industry. Or possibly reach out to individuals on LinkedIn who have PM roles in the film industry. This also sounds like a great opportunity for you to share posts on your LinkedIn to connect with those individuals and companies. Best of luck!

    • @natashamcampbell

      Yes you can work on multiple projects as a freelancer, usually short term. Whereas contractors usually work for a single client and more long term.

    How do you set yourself up as a freelance pm

    • @natashamcampbell
      @natashamcampbell  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Heya, I'm in the UK and the first things I did was set up my Ltd company, this is necessary if you want to freelance outside of IR35. I also set up a business bank account, and found myself a good chartered accountant to deal with the taxes.

      Hi Ade, wow that sounds great, and there is big money as a PM in Construction so well done!! Definitely get the certifications needed to enhance your skillsets within project management and gain as much hands on experience as you can. I don't actually provide mentorship at the moment, but I may consider if I were to receive ample requests. You're doing great!

      Hey! I've been a freelance project manager since 2017. Started off as a Print Project Manager for a global marketing / advertising agency, then moved into digital / video projects in the creative space, then into the gaming sector where I work on a lot of video animation / illustrations. My most recent freelance gig was a bit more tech based - working on VR Snapchat lenses. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions, more than happy to do a video response x

      Hey Mark, that's great! Well done for making the move to get certified. I don't actually provide mentorship services, or know of any within Project Management to recommend, but who knows if I were to receive many requests then I may consider it in the future. As you're new to project management, I would definitely say gather some experience within your PM sector before going freelance - that way you will be desirable to any company looking for a freelancer in your sector.
