Pleasantly surprised! Seems like quite a deal for the weekend warrior who wants a helical cutter. Keep up all these reviews Mike - they are much appreciated.
Thanks for watching Conan!
I've been looking at this for a few months and hoping for an in-depth review. Really well done and as a result, I'm going to order one. I have a Ryobi that is at least 20 yrs old, one of the first planers to come out. It finally died so this new one will be a huge improvement. Thanks for a great and honest review
33kg = 72lbs
Had this come out a year ago I would have had to consider it. I bought the WAHUDA 2 speed unit and love it!
No one is better than you Mike! Looks like a decent low cost planer. Still I love my 735, but if I were to work with a lot of rough sawn woods, I would definitely give something like this a look. Since almost all of these tools are Chinese, I'd have to ask myself how different would this be than the other lunch box planers and then go with the most economical. Thumbs up, brother!
Its true Meat, the 735 is made in Taiwan. Getting one from Byrd Tools with the helical installed is an eye watering $1700. Im gunna have to earn more of that sweet TH-cam money before I can dip my toe in that pond. Unless of course they'd like to send me one to test...🥹 Thanks for always watching man!!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Listen, which guy do we have to know to get a sweet DeWalt sponsorship with 735 with Byrd installed helical cutters? Tell me, I'll get on it. One, of the many things, I appreciate about you is that you're probably the most unbiased of the tool reviewers I've seen. You could never work in mainstream media.
the same manufacturer actually makes all of these. they sell under the Cutech brand and usually come out with their newer tech there before it makes its way down stream.
I saw someone talk about this planer a few weeks ago. Glad to see you review it. It looks like a real winner. Unfortunately, I have to get my camper's leaking roof fixed so I'll have to put off getting one for a bit.
There’s always something that needs attention/money. This one’s pretty good honestly and I hope they do an updated version with the cut gauge on the front. Thanks for always watching Jeff!
Great review Mike when i bought my 735x these helical heads we’re just coming around and very expensive. It’s nice to see you can get this in a budget planner nowadays. As always thanks for sharing Mike.
Great video Mike looks like a great tool. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching Jim!
Another spectacular review, Mike! Thank you.
I would buy this planer in a heartbeat if I didn't already own a new Hercules (identical to deWalt 734) for $300.
Maybe I'll buy it in another 2 years? (but then, there will be something better, most likely.)
Thanks Skippy! We’ll get to that Hercules planer eventually for sure! Thanks for always watching!!
As always you do a wonderful job on your videos. 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks for always watching!!
That thing is pretty impressive!!
I was very pleasantly surprise by the good quality of this one Brian. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing, Mike, excellent review!
Thanks for letting us check out your planer! I’d love to see a cut depth gauge on the front even if the cost goes up a little on the next version. Otherwise it’s a great machine, especially for the price.
@@ProjectsForAllReviews Thanks for your suggestion, we'll add a depth indicator for the next version!
A number of good planers out there. Still occasionally thinking of getting one. Appreciate you sharing another possibility!
Thanks for watching Daniel!
I recently purchased the Harbor Freight Hercules version.
Thanks so much for this confirmed my choice of this planer!
Glad the video helped Philip!
Very nice machine, and another excellent review, Mike. Competitively priced with the Rikon. Hopefully more entries into the sub $700 price point will start to bring down the prices on helical head planers.
I’m pretty sure the extension tables aren’t supposed to be dead flat with the bed. They’re supposed to be a couple degrees higher which helps prevent snipe.
I agree and probably should have been more specific in the vid. Thanks for watching Dylan!
Great video Mike! I do not have a planer or plan to get one anytime soon, but watching Norm Abram on New Yankee Workshop over the years (and now on TH-cam) I know how valuable they are when making quality furniture, cabinets, etc. and/or re-claimed lumber.
I never heard of this company either but I do know (from the industry I work in) it is becoming more common for 3-rd party suppliers (mainly Chinese companies who make products or parts for other brands) to branch out with their own products. I would guess this is the case here, especially with having sort of a wacky brand name (Find Buy Tool). But seems to be a quality product!
Too bad we can’t have tools made here in the USA anymore.
I don't disagree Charlie but that topic is out of the scope of this channel. My DeWALT DW735 is made in Taiwan. Byrd Tools manufactures helical head conversions in Leitchfield, KY but the prices (and probably the quality) reflects it. Spend your money were its important to you. Thanks for watching!!
Cutech is also made in Taiwan and is a brand of Wahuda. I love mine and its comparable to the Dewalt 735. Try to review a Cutech 40800H. Cutech has great customer service too. Also side note if you're in the market for a benchtop jointer the Cutech 8"+ the aluminum fence it comes with can be upgraded to a bigger cast iron fence with extra supports so you don't have the typical benchtop jointer flex on the fence for a little over $100.
I'd like to see this up against the WEN spiral unit. It's half the price and mine does an amazing job.
Looks pretty great. I bought the cutech 13 inch spiral planer not long ago and it's been awesome at under 500 bucks and it has the cutting gauge which is a must imo.
Ive heard good things about the Cutech planers but haven't seen one in person. Im sure we'll get to check one out eventually. Thanks for watching Damian!
Very similar to the Wen 13 inch planer with helical cutting heads at a lot higher price.
That WEN looks like a great deal for just over $400 but the difference is the cutter. Spiral vs Helical and that’s the main difference in price IMO. We’ll get to that WEN eventually for sure. Thanks for watching Judson!
I think I would get the 735 and the helical head for a $100 more
I have the Hercules 3 knife planer...it works just fine for under $400. Double the price for that FindBuy and a whole bunch of tiny cutters you have to replace I'll stick to the regular knives at this point LOL.
We'll get to that Hercules eventually. Looks like a pretty good deal. Thanks for watching WildBill!!
Not possible too buy in Canada (Amazon,ca) , Is great planer Thanks for the review A1 Mike 👍👍👍👍
I’ll never understand why Canada doesn’t get the same products we get in the US. Thanks for watching!
Looks like the only real question is how long it will last.
That's always the question with these new companies and imported tools. This will be my planer until someone sends me another and as always I'll let you guys know if anything goes south. Thanks for always watching MAGA!
Got 750 total in my 735 with upgrade ..just sayin ..there's a lot this machine is not in comparison to the 735... prolly more comparable to the Oliver imo...
How is that possible unless you got the 735 used for a fair price or over eight years ago. HD has it now without folding support tables for $599 "on special". I got might over 5 years ago with extra blades and end tables for $600 if I remember correctly. What head did you put in yours? Thanks for watching!
@@ProjectsForAllReviews yeah got it from a friend that used it once lol .dint mention that huh..
@@ProjectsForAllReviews oh I went with foxBC helico head, think I paid 350 and the 735 I paid 400 for ..great deal..
Lol! I knew it. Still that’s how a lot of great deals are had! Most of the DeWALT stuff I’ve reviewed is a friends who bought top of the line tools, remodeled his entire house and hasn’t used any of it in eight years.
@@ProjectsForAllReviews lot of that goin around lol .
what is the price of this planer? it doesn’t show me the price tag on amazon because they cant ship it to me. i am from Europe
Looks like it's $799 but you might want to wait to see if other Amazon providers offer lower price.
Is this a helical or spiral cutter?
Helical. Thanks for watching!
The locking mechanism seems a bit annoying. Something you don't have with the vevor planer (with findbytool helical cutter upgrade).
It’s not bad really. Planers should have a carriage lock it’s one motion to lock and stays secure. Thanks for watching!
I didn't quite understand the reason for this carriage lock. Is it to secure the adjusted height, to prevent height change while planing? Is that an issue with other planars who don't have this feature?
The whole point is to get the board exactly the same thickness from one end to the other. The carriage is pushing down with some considerable force and even the slightest movement would be bad. Never seen a planer without a lock but i haven’t used them all. Thanks for watching!
$700 is a great buy for a helical planer
I agree. Thanks for watching!!
Agree the gauge on the front to tell you about how much will be cut would make it great
There’s always snipe
It’s true. I usually leave enough extra length to cut off the snipe after I plane. Thanks for watching Dave!
Ain't that the truth
