@@RegWhoI’m 19 years of age as of yesterday, and am obsessant over Zappa’s work, it’s on my bucket list to visit Zappanale. Don’t worry there are exceptions to every rule
Yeah they probably think you are lame because you do not listen to what the radio feeds you.... sad. The jam band scene though has a lot of decent jazz fusion bands that are worth noting. Nothing good is on the actual radio.
The fact that Steve Vai, as an 18 year old kid, had the balls and skills to play with Frank Zappa is a testament to his genius. Even his mentor, Joe Satriani, admits that he is jealous at times over his natural talent.
It's rare when a song written in what 1966 was relevant for those times and then jump forward 54 years later and here in fucked up 2020 it's still just as relevant! Frank Zappa was such an amazing unlimitedly talented genius...such a loss this world could use a couple hundred thousand Frank Zappa's
"It's rare when a song written in what 1966 was relevant for those times and then jump forward 54 years later and here in fucked up 2020 it's still just as relevant! " Yep. 'Boggles The Sane Mind', don't it ? Sad. 😢
A few years back I rewrote Son of Orange County to reflect modern times: "And in your dreams, you can see yourself/ making a profit/groping young girls/the words from your lips: "Whattya got to lose?"/I just can't believe you are such a fool/I just can't believe you are such a *tool*....". (Alternate drop-in quotes include "only I can do it", "I am your vengeance", or "you'll get tired of winning"). Anyway, perhaps Dweezil will be motivated to update another song, originally about Nixon, to reflect that "Donnie's Such An A-hola". I also remember an interview from maybe 40 years ago where Frank warned that the evangelicals were trying to take over the United States government. He was prophetic, and if he were alive today he'd probably be surprised only by the fact that that it took them so long......😖
Dweezil is more than a "chip off the old block"; he is the "block off the old chip". In other words he more than emulates his old man. What a great musician!-- and the other members of the band are virtuosic to say the least!
Thank you, Dad. Thanks for introducing me to Zappa. And thanks for taking me to see Dweezil do the whole set of Roxy and Elsewhere live. I'll never forget it.
A friend invited me in 1978 to see Frank Zappa. I was very young about 16 year's old. I had seen a little about music like Dire Strait, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis and some belgian bands but i always remembered that night in Brussel. I didn't know nothing about Zappa and when i heared his music i understood music was different, everything possible and funny and since then, Zappa's universe makes me believe in something else about human being, hope maybe whatever. I even went to USA to see him 5 times, Zappa was kind of an extra influence and when i listen his son i know that i didn't fool myself to love his music. Bravo Mister Dweezil!
It does not get any better than this. Love it when Dweezil hits just the one note during the solo and messes with Steve Vai's head. The shear enjoyment of such great musicians playing as a band is overwhelming. Arf.
Steve Vai... wow. I've never been a huge guitar god lovin' dude, but man oh man, what a friggin genius. His understanding of the guitar and how to manipulate it is beautiful. A true magician.
Absolutely stunning performance ( again ) !!! For an instant I forgot, that it wasn´t Frank, that I was listening to. Dweezil hit the nail on the head again ! Love this music, and ZPZ is always an awesome experience. Greetings to everybody who love good music, from Helsinki, Finland !
First time I've listened to this, ever. A cold, windy and snowy day in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire... I could not agree more, Marko. The sound of Frank being there had tears welling up in my eyes as I heard the tribute coming from his son and being SPOT ON. I was amazed! Well done, Dweezil!
13 years old I heard on my transistor radio Freak Out Return of the son of Monster magnet.. that did it,I’m 72 now Tues December 10 2024 still loving Zappa music 🎵
Just saw him a few weeks ago at the Keswick in Glenside. Brought tears to my eyes. Got to speak to him after the show. Thanked him for keeping his fathers music fresh and alive. Going again in March in Delaware.
The guitar-feast is awesome and reminds me a bit of the smoking riffs I heard when Carlos Santana and John McLaughlin played during their "Love Devotion Surrender" tour in 1973. Saw Frank Zappa & the Mothers with Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band touring together that same year. Sooo, I'm old? ;) Grateful to have heard them all. What a great time to be alive!
This is incredible ! Every single person up there was amazing ! I have never really liked Steve vai's style but holly shit.... Some of the licks he was pulling off... Mind blown.. And then the drummers.. Need i say more

I had a beer with Jamie Kime and a couple other band members after a show in Spokane Washington at a bar down the street from the Bing Crosby Theater. The show was sparsely attended and my friend and I ended up in the 4th row, right in front of Shiela. Great friggin' show! Saw them again in Spokane a few years later on Frank's birthday. Another memorable show.
ZPZ is a gift from God for us FZ fanatics. Saw them with NMB, Via and Bozzio on a Halloween night at The Theater (under Madison Square Garden) in NYC - formerly known as The Felt Forum where I saw his father play many a Halloween night back in the day.
i am 25 and try to turn everyone i know on to the Genius that was Frank.. Saw them two years in a row now.. and will never miss another show.. Real musicians playing Real music.. Dig it, Merry Christams. RIP Frank.. Keep it up Dweezil..
What a line-up! Dweezil has certainly evolved into a superb musician and does his dad and his music proud! It's very nice to see Napoleon, Vai. Bozzio,et al, playing the good stuff and having so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
I was listening to this the other day while I was working at home. I have my Zappa TH-cam videos (200+) on auto-play. When this came one, I didn't even realize it was Zappa playing Zappa until I went to shut it off. Amazing what the Dweez and Co. has put together here. What a GREAT! way to keep Frank's music alive. He would certainly be proud.
probrojeffro Bro, are you saying sometimes when you are listening to ZPZ, THE DWEEZ! You think you are listening to 'The Mothers'? because sometimes when I close my eyes, I swear I can hear Frank.I put that as a comment about a month ago, and someone basically called me an idiot and went into some 'spiel' about it. I am so glad I am not the only one.... THE DWEEEEEEEEEZZZZ!!! Frank would have been proud for sure! :-))
Keith Hall I think it's in the DNA. I mean it's not the exact same, of course, the Dweez does a lot of hammers and pull offs, being a big fan of Eddie and, I'm sure, Vai, but the level of his play and that of this band is pretty damn high, and that's where Frank and his band mates played without exception. Of course Dweezel is a more benevolent leader, but quality is very close. Of course having Napoleon Murphy sing helps bring the sound back to Mother bands gone by.
I understand not exactly the same, Frank was more manic and sporadic in his playing (which I love) Dweez is much smoother with the guitar. (I just know Dweez is one hell of a guitarist these days) Its great watching ex Mothers playing with Dweez such as Vai. Bozzio, and certainly one of my favorites NMB... even Scott Thunes I am sure was on one ZPZ video.

In today's world a trade founded by the father is rapidly becoming something of the past, considering that many kids don't carry on where their fathers left off (instead they arse about with their Iphones and are not creative). Dweezil has the power to keep his father's music, genius, and legend alive (and I hope Dweezil's kids will continue too), this assures his musical genius and inspiration will never cease to exist. The man was a musical pioneer, I love his sound and style, and when I hear stuff like this it positively charges me! Long live the name FRANK ZAPPA, and long live his creations. Thankyou Dweezil Sir for continuing to share your father's music with us!
I've been playing guitar,of and on for 20yrs.and orange county gives me motivation to pick it up again. great job zpz. kick ass.gre motivational video. and Steve--and the rest of the band... what can I say...
just listening to this makes all the hairs on my skin stand up and it brings tears to my eyes when i think about the great gift of music passed down from father to son.
This is my first time listening to Dweezils version of this song... and... wow. I always somehow refused to listen to it cause its not Frank.... but damn its good... and when I saw Napoleon Murphy Brock... I was so damn happy.... dont know why... I always liked that guy .... Thank you for the great music
More Funding to the Music Department for our Youngsters! Zappa should be music prerequisite! Or at least required listening. The freedom is evident in the lesson. The battle rages on unabashed
+aristotle358 Thats Vai man, you accept and dig it ... Dweezil does his thing. They compliment each other nicely. Bozio is the Killa !! Hes fucking great
rob g Fair comment. The entire line-up is exceptionally brilliant ! But just as one can eat something rich and sweet and were to eat too much one would feel queasy, that's how Vai affects me. Lovely in small amounts but I couldn't listen to a whole show of that kind of playing.
I was lucky enough to be able to see this exact tour & BOY did it bring back memories of seeing all 3 versions of The Mothers when I was a kid , what great music he left us .
I was at the Portland show,(This was recorded 2-consecutive nights, in Seattle and portland) and I get goosebumps every time I see these pieces. GET the full dvd! Sheila was incredible. Dweezil and the band was great, Napolean Murphy Brock (Nappy) did a fantastic job, particularly on Zombie Woof. Steve Vai blows me away every time. That "Duel" was staggering!! Bozzio is always fun to watch in his monstor kit. All around....THE best show of my life! and I"M at about 400 shows now, Since `74.
I was at this show. Took my son and two of his friends. A good time was had by all. "Little" Stevie Vai, Terry Bozzio, Napoleon Murphy Brock. Oh what night!
Just saw this and have not seen such grand extended plays of premier musicians in a long time.......Long time Zappa fan from seeing the Mothers in the 70s and 80s. This is a treat......AH....Frank. Thanks Dweezil!
I actually didn't know much Zappa before discovering the full length video of this concert. The musicianship of literally every member of this band blew me away. I had tried to get Zappa a few times since about 30yrs ago as a student, listened to Nanook and Cozmic debris but didn't get it back then. The full length video had so much content that I listened to very little else for about a year till I knew every fill and solo. Sheila playing keyboard and sax simultaneously was a highlight among many. Shouldn't have been surprised as she teaches at Berklee, and that tells me enough! Dweezil got me into Frank😊 Hopefully he'll come back to the UK as I have to go see some of this.
Always cracks me up. Zappa creates one of the most lyrical pieces he’s ever written then adds a seriously acerbic bite and takes a serious crap on Nixon. Even better, that smooth, buttery voice of npb adding to same. Nothing like it now or since. This was a trademark. He always had a wry smirk in his compositions. Great examples are the Reggae version of “Ring of Fire” and “Andy” with its blues version of a prison boy story. Who else but Zappa thinks of this stuff? This creativity extends to his genre-melting treatments of harmony, rhythm, and melody. Whoever says he was just a blues player doesn’t understand the fundamentals of blues, music in general, rock, jazz, music theory, or Zappa himself (hard as that is to do). Never boring or repetitive, His tongue was firmly in cheek at all times both in his comedic songs, experimental chord structures, use of odd intervals, rhythm, and composition. Nothing was sacred. To some, his music sounds disjointed or confused. It most certainly wasn’t. There was serious method to his work, and it was consistent throughout his career. His solos were magic. Some contemporary rock, blues, classical, etc, others experimental, still others modal jazz inspired. The musician in him abhorred convention. Same goes for the satirist that he was. No wonder he still fascinates us. I suspect he’ll do so for a long time to come.
on a zappa listening dive via TH-cam, and I listened to this song for quite a while before even noticing "hey...I don't recognize this playing? At all? Close, but what's going on?" I might've figured it out towards the end, but happy to have looked and seen what was going on. I have a lot to learn still which is awesome.
Dweezil Zappa,Steve Vai,Terry Bozzio somebody said something like look at all that talent.Understatement the whole band is as tight as a hermetically sealed jar on Funk and Wagnels home porch!

ZPZ is a gift from God for us FZ fanatics. Saw them with NMB, Via and Bozzio on a Halloween night at The Theater (under Madison Square Garden) in NYC - formerly known as The Felt Forum where I saw his father play many a Halloween night back in the day.
another boast that is absolutely impossible to prove or not.
i am 25 and try to turn everyone i know on to the Genius that was Frank.. Saw them two years in a row now.. and will never miss another show.. Real musicians playing Real music.. Dig it, Merry Christams. RIP Frank.. Keep it up Dweezil..
Quiet... Dweez is playing!
Joe and I saw this show in Dallas, and we were on our feet the whole time. What an amazing series of shows!
What a line-up! Dweezil has certainly evolved into a superb musician and does his dad and his music proud! It's very nice to see Napoleon, Vai. Bozzio,et al, playing the good stuff and having so much fun! Thanks for sharing!
Totally agree!!
God I would have loved to hear him perform in person
Bozio is a symphony all by himself. ❤
Oh - by the way, I am taking up a collection to help buy Terry Bozio some more drums. Poor dude trying to get by with that poor little Stanky Kit.
yeah,huh
yep, that is awful.steve might want to practice a little more too
Terry thanks you as now he has 5 Bass drums in that kit.
Count me in. We got to help him 😆
just listening to this makes all the hairs on my skin stand up and it brings tears to my eyes when i think about the great gift of music passed down from father to son.
Hard to find words...Oh my, how good this was! Long life to you Dweezil!
If you don't dig on ZAPPA you probably need to shop in the ABBA section of your local spin shop!! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸💪💪💪💪💪💪🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾🦾
Guitars with their own lyrics! :-)
Ok. This HAS to stop!!!!. Spectacular!!! 😂
This is my first time listening to Dweezils version of this song... and... wow. I always somehow refused to listen to it cause its not Frank.... but damn its good... and when I saw Napoleon Murphy Brock... I was so damn happy.... dont know why... I always liked that guy .... Thank you for the great music
Sorry, to burst you bubble. Look what he's convicted for. I had breakdown after finding out he served time for something like that.
Amazing tune done with complete justice by the son of the master...Hats off to Dweezil Z.
Dweezil's solos are addictive.
I was skeptical as a listener from the early 70's that your guitar could win me . Father has blessed the son . So happy .
Who the fuck are the 23 people who thumbs down this epic performance?
They are compelled to do so.
Supporters/sons of #45, the Doofus in Chief.
Eric Fortin Ahmed and Diva
Leilaloveism you just had to make this thread political ,sad .
beiber fans
Frank was so eloquent with his blues....❤
First band I took my daughter to see.
superb and we need these guys to go in to politics.....
We used to skip highschool in 1966 to listen to Freak Out and 'Trouble Every Day' was my favourite. Dweezil and the band are so exceptional.
More Funding to the Music Department for our Youngsters!
Zappa should be music prerequisite! Or at least required listening.
The freedom is evident in the lesson.
The battle rages on unabashed
love the drum roll that Chester Thompson came up with originally. So did Phil Collins obviously.
@@PeterMayer Cool, listening to CT next. Thanks man.
Sorry for the late reply. was just alerted, lol only 4 years late, go figure.
Man can young Zappa play the guitar! Beautiful, absolutely gorgeous.
Man I miss Frank. The DWEEZ!!!!
Me too... thank God for 'The Dweez! (and the band ZPZ)
thanks satan for these guys!
***** Troll alert!!!
Keith Hall lol
Goosebumps all the way through. What a performance
See how Vai uses effects peddles so much more than Dweezle. I much more prefer Dweez's playing!
***** I agree!
I agree, small amounts
+aristotle358 true, but the friendly duel is delicious.
Memories of Frank just came flooding back,,
You are awesome my brother !! Thank you so much for keeping your Dads music alive :)
Genial!
!!!! FANTASTIC !!!!
Masterful. I love this track and into Trouble is one amazing thing..
13:40 Vai is one of a kind
what are you smoking!!??
Weed, duh
Sounds like something Jeff Beck would do here
good fucking weed is that a fucking problem there junior ?
Sean Porio: I don't think so!
I was lucky enough to be able to see this exact tour & BOY did it bring back memories of seeing all 3 versions of The Mothers when I was a kid , what great music he left us .
Play England. Now. Stop playing and get on a plane with all your kit and play now. NOW.
everything about this is amazing, I just keep coming back
They're both great, but dweezil is way more tasty. His tone is so yummy, while steve's is just his usual over saturated distortion
saturation is a form of distortion....lol
A...good time ? this is....I mean I would do very bad things to see all of these people on stage ahah ! Looked and sounds like a fantastic night !
Man, Dweez can play those great-googly-moogly licks and make them his own, too!
This music actually makes me happy. It’s just so…something.
❤
Wow. Glad I found this. Roxy & Elsewhere is one of my top 3 Live albums on Earth. This is great.
HIGH 5 man !! Roxy and Elewhere is one of these 10 albums i wud take to an island
Sounds like true 70's funk. Thank you Dweesil!
Best song I ever heard in my life unbelievable every note
Saw ZPZ in 2012, Seattle. FZ abides. Love you, Dweez!
Dweezil is one of the few of us now living who is willing and able to grok the spriit of Frank’s music. Bless you, securlarly speaking, D.
How much talent, and love of craft, can you fit on one stage.
The message is still relevant some 50 years after he wrote it.
Out. Fucking. Standing.
I never get tired of watching this!!!
The jam with Steve and Dweeze is just spectacular.
Gorgeous version, Recording is absolutely superb
😎👍🏾🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥ZAPPA WAS A GENIUS...I can only imagine the material Zappa and Prince could have created!!!!
on a zappa listening dive via TH-cam, and I listened to this song for quite a while before even noticing "hey...I don't recognize this playing? At all? Close, but what's going on?"
I might've figured it out towards the end, but happy to have looked and seen what was going on. I have a lot to learn still which is awesome.
Awesome, Frank always hired and collected the best musicians. Great performance, thanks Dweeze, your Dad willnever get out of my mind
❤
Lol! He was a musician collector… I can imagine all his boys and girls on special shelves in his office
Dweezil's tone and playing are spot on; sounds just like his old man
Dweezil Zappa,Steve Vai,Terry Bozzio somebody said something like look at all that talent.Understatement the whole band is as tight as a hermetically sealed jar on Funk and Wagnels home porch!
