Thank you for literally painting a very accurate image. Born in 1964 and lived throughout the war within walking distance from the Holiday Inn !. I can relate to every scene. Never held a weapon but managed to cheat death countless times. Immigrated to Canada in 1990 as Canada will remain my home forever.

My dad fled during this time and eventually came to the United States. Sworn in as a citizen by Ronald Reagan himself. He been an engineer for FDOT for over 30 years in good standing and married my Mom in 1983. I was born in 1992 in Prince Georges Hospital in Maryland. He still has nighmares and anxiety issues that I wish he would get help for. With racist bullying that got worse at work and outside after 01 his symptoms became unbearable. I live alone now but I had to deal with the brunt of it(I have ASD but I was rushed to the doctors/thrown in a hospital). For anyone who want's to criticize Ilhan Omar, I ask them to trade places with me(YOU'll be begging to go back to your privalaged life).

It's amazing how history repeats itself. The country was divided in 1975 between those who were pro-Lebanese sovereignty and anti-Lebanese sovereignty and now we find ourselves divided along the same lines. Except this time it is not Muslim v. Christian but pro and anti-Hezbollah.

I live in a city of hundreds of highrises, including quantities of hotels. The Beirut war and particularly the symbolism of the Holiday Inn inevitably make me wonder what a similar war would be like here...we had a similar Holiday Inn, which also opened in the early 1970s. That building is still standing, intact, although its ownership has changed. No civil wars here, for which I am thankful.

yes indeed ! holiday inn was the front line , hilton hotel was as well front line , i survived 3 days and 2 nights defending it no food and no sleep . we were few students fighting many enemies from different part of the world. soviet flags together with pps , mourabitoun and palerstinians were engaged against us. they planned to kill us all , but they failed. if we had support from any country, we would have defended all the areas, but we were alone. our only help was the miracles from the Lord .

No business or anything else should be put there. What war ?????? For God sake the war ended 30 years ago and you still talking about it with every time anyone mention Lebanon. Nowadays Lebanon is the only country in Middle East that is stable and safe and it’s the only real democracy in the Middle East whom everyone have the full freedom to express themselves.

Other than the mountain wars and massacres of sabra w shatila this probably was the most barbaric event in the civil war. Just imagine having to fight floor by floor. At some point you had amal wel eshtirakiye on one floor with the lebanese forces on the floor under them and then under their floor you had another militia group 😂
