Thank you so much, Erica. I'm so glad your channel was finally recommended by the algorithm I really love your approach to history and the classics. ❤❤❤
I'm glad you mentioned just how bizarrely peculiar we moderns really are with our concept of "middle class," floated around, which seems to be shifting in our own day thanks to people like Cate Blanchet. Writing has always been the domain of the educated elite. The late literary critic Harold Bloom and classicist Gilbert Highet nod in unison from the grave✅
I love this videos because it’s rare that the life of the historian is mentioned. You can find lots of videos about their writing. I feel when you learn about the person, you can better appreciate their work! I also love how passionate you are when speaking about these men. It also hurts me too, to learn so much of their writing are lost.
@@MoAnInc I’m so happy I found your channel. I’m just a regular guy who loves the ancient world. I regret not studying history in college, I instead studied business. I love your channel, you are amazing!
All university lecturers should be forced to watch a video by Erica - to see what enthusiasm for your subject matter looks like. Imagine if all university lecturers were as enthusiastic as Erica - their lectures would be full!
Really like your channel, videos and insights of historical work, people and such. I hope you take it as a compliment and I think you actually would benefit if you speed down a notch your storytelling, even as engaging it is (at least for us not_having_English_as_first_languish, lol.) You got so much information my brain needs the second here and there to follow. That said, I am impressed by your presentation overall, so thanks a lot.
Currently rading 'Solon' in his Rise and Fall of Athens. He regularly issues caveats about the stories he relates, that they might be fables, or that another writer has a different version, in other words like a real Historian !
The Algorith: “You’re a nerd- have some Plutarch.” Me: “You know me so well.” 🎉 But seriously, I never knew most of this material about the moralist’s life. 🙏
Funnelling my GCSE Classical Civ students towards his video because we read Plutarch’s comparison of Theseus and Romulus (it is brutal btw, he thinks they’re both awful but picks Romulus as the lesser of two evils because - and I paraphrase heavily here - ‘hey at least he only seized one woman by force and it was for a good reason that benefitted all of Rome, unlike that rapey hedonist Theseus’)

Thank you for tuning in!!!
“Plutarch’s Lives” was my first classics book as a kid! Great context video! So important!
😇
Right on the day I came to Italy to travel and been on a Roman Empire binge; legend, thanks Moan
Enjoy your trip!! :)

The man, the myth, the legend. Shame we lost his Lives section on Epaminondas.
HUGE shame, his likely would have been among the most interesting.
!!!!!
you should have waay more views Erica! great videos

Ahh one of my favorites! I've borrowed the concept of Parallel Lives for ASOIAF/Game of Thrones several times on my channel, I love it.
Thanks dude.
You’re so welcome ✨
I hope there was a story arc in the end. Plutarch without a story arc just feels wrong.
I was wondering when you were going to get to Plutarch! Welll done: consider how important he was to the Elizabethans! Have a good day!

OK. Let's assume you're pretty.
This woman sounds like she's going from an American to British and back.
I'm outta here, too much phoniness in the world anyway!
Not “phoney” - I grew up in London with North American parents and went to university at NYU. But if you don’t like my voice that’s fine!
@@MoAnInc 👍 Haters gonna hate 😂 I am here to learn about Plutarch not accents so I am staying 👍
Another one to add to the TBR✍🏻🫶🏻
