Is this the same for the 3.0 V6 in the Eclipse , Galant, Sebring, Stratus? What is the reason you are setting it to TDC? I currently removed my distributor and I am having trouble aligning the new one . Are you saying setting it to TDC will allow it to go in easier? Can you help explain?
Is the reason for setting it to TDC so that all you have to do is align the marks you mentioned on the distributor and it will slid in correctly if it’s in TDC? Going to try this tomorrow if this is the case.
loved the video, informative and funny at the same time. Entertaining and very informative. Camera girl was great also. I am not really balanced either so I subed to your channel!
So like a dummy, I did not look which way my distributor cap was pointing when I took it out. Can I just put it back in with a 50% chance of getting it right and if it doesn't start, turning at 180°?
is it possible to just put the distributor in exactly the way it was taken out? do u have to remove the upper intake manifold just to replace the distributor?
You need to/should remove the manifold. But you can put the dist back in the exact way it came out if you want to try that, mark it with something when it comes out. But hope it didn't move a bit before you marked it! Then yea, you can try to get it back in same way it came out. It looks like to me he just wanted it to go in right 1st try, no fiddling, fidgiting, frustration, xtra meds, smashing it in the wall, none of that. Thats prob more or less what this vids about, gettin it in the 1st try, no aggravation. I think they charge way to much for these distributors! Like a grand for the Chrysler/Mitsubishi factory dist these cars came with when new!(much cheaper aftermarket but a LOT of them wont work right)
Mark what? Please elaborate. I'm having to pull my distributor out soon. Was told that is the only way to fix cam sensor. So I was just going to replace the distributor unit. Was told that it was a package deal with the sensor. And yes I always take the top off when replacement parts are needed for the back of engine. You don't have to put the horizontal bolts back in. As long as you make sure the top are tight. However my question is. You said mark something on the distributor before removing???? Thanks in advance great video whoever made this. I'm tired of fighting my pos car
So, this one has no adjustment? It looks similar to the one from my Ford Probe 2.5l v6. It's made by Mitsubishi electric and does have some adjustment to it with wider bolt holes. Total garbage part for us, if the Probe doesn't start it's almost the first thing to check. Coil and ignitor issues probably from being internal to the disty. There is a mod to add an external coil and ignitor for ours. What usually fails on these?
i have a 1999 chrysler sebring lxi with a 2.5 i had a distributer fail so i replaced it with a new one now i have a running car but seems to have a miss any ideas on what could have caused this checked all wires they apear to be ok and i changed the plugs i dont know what else to check any help would be great
You figured it out yet? The new dist is bad out of the box ALL the time. If it hasnt been resolved, get a KNOWN good dist and put it in. See what happens. If you did resolve it, what'd you do?
Are you saying it's technically better to grab a used one from another car hopefully it being factory instead of the new kind made. ? AutoZone has one here in Knoxville for $275 .. my head is fuckin spinning now on where to get my distributor
I just put it in the same way i took it out. Just make sure you remember where the rotor was pointing . Took me less than a minute. Did not need to do a compression test or take the spark plug out of the #1
There was no damage. Car ran great on start up. It's just a huge pain b/c of all the stuff you need to remove. I hate working on that engine. I would punch the engineer who designed the car in the face. They could have taken room from the trunk to add to the engine bay. I also replaced the crank position sensor while I was there. Thanks!
I put the distributor in lined up like the old one . And it’s choppy now . This is why am here . Am gonna have to start all over . I think who ever had this car must of used another plug as number one .
I had to pull my distributor off to get to the CPS. Is there any way i could have screwed up the timing? It would only go back in one way. If I turned the rotor, it would not go back in. All of the plug wires remained in place and the motor wasn't moved with the distributor out. Thanks for the video and any help.
Yea, the problem was buying a $20.00 Crankshaft position sensor from EBay. Paid like $62.00 at Autozone and it fired right up. Drove it for three days, now I have a heater core line leaking. LOL. Thanks again.
You dont have to move dist to swap CPS. But you do have to get LONG extension, go in through wheel well. How I did it anyway. Prob best to move the stuff then the distributor though. Just sayin, the wheel well/very long extension happened to work for me.
jamie try to take it easy on that gal of yours you know it aint easy loving guys like us ...lol found your other video how to install the distrubetor and guess what the one who put in the last one broke the tab sure as shit and didnt tighten the rear bolt had to file the slot cuz it burred it just enough the new one wouldnt go in but its back on and the rest finish tommorow thanks a million and im going to make a video for you to show my thanks (free service manuals how to )
I removed my distributor the other day and I didn't think about marking it until it was too late. Without sounding like the dumbest person on the planet, is this process what I need to do to be able to get my car to start?
you could force it in there and you will end up breaking the alignment so definitely set top dead center for a swallow have a few different videos follow them precisely and it'll come out perfect

If you can gain access, you can remove just the distributor, but you're much better with the upper intake manifold off because it gives you MUCH easier access. You can pull the intake off in less than 20 minutes. Also, you have to really watch the timing alignment on the distributor.
Your awesome car man you have a attitude like me amen brother love our troops my dad was a vet

Yeah I actually swapped a '99 model distributor into a '95 with no issues so its all a myth about parts being incompatible in the earlier years.
Awesome presentation
Thank you so much

After replacing distributor how do you time
it only goes in one way you don't have to worry about time in it
how to find rotor cam diameter

Should've did the timing belt on this would've gotten a million views since no one was smart enough to do it

this is ONLY if I decide to NOT to remove the upper intake, correct?
