I can say, during the last 5 months I listened to 95% of all episodes available. This is the best episode for me by far :D Greetings from Germany btw :)
Mark my words, this Podcast is going to EXPLODE in the next 6 months, we have 2 powerhouse leaders for us Amanda & Sean MF Fennessey, we're eating SOO so good! Excellent content lately just cant get enough, Bravo!
It might be just be to my interests but I'm reading an interesting book called Roadshow: The Fall of film musicals in the 1960s. The first chapter is about how Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music were all massive successes that came within 6 months of each other. The rest of book details the making of all the big budget musical (mostly) disasters that were made to capitalize on the success of those three.
Agree with Sean's point about "Hyperion" being an untapped IP - it's one of the remaining iconic literary sci-fi series belonging to the same category as "Dune" that has a lot of gravitas when treated with respect and could become the next big franchise with the right director & screenplay writer. Personally though, I think it's much better served as a high-budget prestige TV series given how heavy it's themes are.
Sean's "Wonka Sucks, Ambulance Rocks!" take is his wildest form cognitive dissonance, and I have a ton of faith in his taste. One is made for actual children (and they LOVE it) and the other is made for adult male children (and they LOVE it). 1 coin, 2 sides.
The Secret History would be a really hard novel to film. Possibly the least of the problems (but one you would have to address) is that all the characters are loathsome. Also, there's not much plot, which works fine in literary fiction, but not so much on the screen. Much of the story takes place inside the mind of a first person narrative, so good luck with that. The bacchanal could easily come off as unintentionally funny. Casting would be a nightmare, as all 7 major characters are eccentric, but not in a funny, broad Umbrella Academy way. I think you would have to let Donna Tartt take the first stab at the screenplay, maybe with some help from her friend Brett Easton Ellis. On the screen it might fare better as a really nasty dark comedy.
The Crazy Rich Asians series and My Year of Rest and Relaxation were absolute bombshell picks in literary properties. Personally would’ve shot for a sci-fi adptation for a Ursula K. Le Guin or an Octavia Butler, or honestly-though I hate it-A Little Life, just because I can’t think of another novel that has had a greater general impact in the reading public in the last decade. Oh, and Bad Art Friend absolutely should be adapted by way of R.F. Kuang’s Yellowface.
Everyone complains about celebrity apologies being insincere and then accept will smith’s fake ass self serving video saying the most fake apology ever
Irrelevant aside but whu isnt Mary Poppins playing as a morming matinee (although I guess those are gone, but still there's room in the afternoom) at leasr 1x a month in every theatre? My son is 7 and we're almost 5 years in Mary Mania. When he was 3 we could've gone to a once a month screening. Let the lil uns dance and the grownups huddle in the back. If it came back right now in wide release we'd still happily pay $20 apiece.
Would appreciate if everyone took the Great Narnia film seriously , she clearly had the opportunity to do new work but chose this, chose I lyk that she zigs when everyone wants her to zag
The sad part is VOD is $19.99 or $24.99 to buy while the movie was $14 to see in theaters. Also some theaters have discounts on weekdays. This the VOD does not make financial sense, especially for an action movie that is better in the theater anyway. Just a thought.
If The Fall Guy wasn't to their tastes, something's really wrong, bc that was supposed to be a four-quadrant movie-- rom-com with action/ an action movie with romcom elements
This seems like a poor excuse to talk about the same 5 people you always talk about each week! Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya just don't do it for me on any level at this point (I haven't seen Challengers yet) but I don't think either are close to being movie stars let alone good actors.

Hello Germany!
This is a brilliant idea for an episode, really enjoyed it. Nicely done Sean and Amanda!
I think figuring out a way to add a spending cap on the build a studio exercise would be an interesting twist.
Like an Aaron Sorkin would command a higher amount of your budget compared to a Florence Pugh
I definitely nerded out over the studio building exercise lol. Fun.

Their draft shows are the best!
"Jorge Luis Borges is a hack" - Amanda Dobbins, multiple occasions.
"Box office poison, Ryan Gosling? " is hilarious 😂
Definitely need to keep track of all of these picks for the next few years and keep track of whose fictional studio is winning
Dobbs " We haven't mastered the ocean yet." Sorry James Cameron 41:30

So excited Book Club is gonna be back! Haven’t read Making Movies since film school, will be great to revisit alongside a Lumet episode

No Villeneuve or Nolan in director is kind of shocking.
PTA too. Im guessing they are all too old idk
Yeah the fact sean didn't go PTA is kinda surprising. But he's also not a massive box office draw over the past 15 years
Bill Hader is such a big brain move.
ringerverse needs to add a Watch Guy show called The Watches where Corey breaks down his Rolex Daytona
It’s a timex, brother 😂
@@cory_mcconnell i will not stop watching ringer movies until you get that rollie
god, i need the bill hader movies so bad
I really need somebody to make Brandon Sanderson novels into movies. Some fantasy franchise that’s not Marvel
Can't get used to seeing them live. Sean's new beard!
12:08 Beekeeper release date was the 12th. That maniac was only off by two days.
20:00 for the start of the exercise for anyone who wants to skip the into nonsense
This premise was very enjoyable 🎥

1:09:30 grunt was savage 🪦
sean, your beloved jessie buckley is playing the bride in maggie gyllenhaal’s the bride!

"Where are you at on "The Two Jakes"??" Amanda: "What do you mean??" ... this is why she does not belong here.
To have a movie star draft for a new studio and not have Tom Holland, Ryan Reynolds or Margot Robbie in the top 5 picks is madness.
Margot Robbie's Lucky Chap owns the rights to Rest and Relaxation so Greta isn't out of the question!
Hyperion Cantos is a galaxy brain level pull from Sean
Big Pic is getting same views as Rewatchables 💪🏼
Amanda is favorite. 😊
Challengers will be on MGM+ in July.
Happy for an Akela Cooper signing. She's a dynamo.
the 20 million dollar discussion is ludicrous. its 20 million! meetings???
This was fun as hell. Someone should’ve picked Michael Green as their screenwriter.
i wish Joker Folie A Deux was this years ASIB opening with Venom
SUCH GREAT FUN EPISODE YOOO ❤🎉❤🎉
No Damien Chazelle is criminal

Why are we still talking about Fall Guy?
Because you haven’t seen it yet. 🪃
Went opening weekend. Bang average. 🪃
11:23 what could this podcast be w no amanda? 🌄
“Not just a man - Chris Rock”
"Rumours is mid" has got to be among Sean's all-time worst takes
Sean, please lose your razor and enter your unavoidably necessary David Letterman phase. Also . . . . movies are good.
Love Sean's shout out to Hyperion Cantos! I was long hoping Bradley would crack it!
Would appreciate if everyone took the Great Narnia film seriously , she clearly had the opportunity to do new work but chose this, chose I lyk that she zigs when everyone wants her to zag
Love you guys
No Leonardo DiCaprio is crazy.

Just got to wait more until that price goes down to 5 bucks
Yes, but that’s $14 per person in the family. Or Pay $20 flat for as many that can fit in front of the TV.
fun episode
These studios fail after 6 months
Amanda Dobbins adds Ks to every G. It drives me nuts.
You know you know you know you know you know you know?
SPAIN REPRESENTED!!
18:56 You said Ed Zwick is WHITE?
Please have Bill or Wesley or somebody on to counter your guys' delusion about Challengers!
I’d rather never listen to either of them talk about movies ever again after their mind-numbingly stupid conversation about that movie.
Hot take: Last night with the devil was a better horror movie than A violent nature 🤷🏻♂️
If The Fall Guy wasn't to their tastes, something's really wrong, bc that was supposed to be a four-quadrant movie-- rom-com with action/ an action movie with romcom elements
Question: Does Amanda actually even like movies…?
She might like them, but she doesn't love em or care enough about em to see all the important ones and know her shit. She sucks.
Hope an eccentric billionaire gives you both a call.
Damn shame our Letterboxd Overlord Sean couldn’t get Jordan Peele because of Woke !!!
This seems like a poor excuse to talk about the same 5 people you always talk about each week! Timothy Chalamet and Zendaya just don't do it for me on any level at this point (I haven't seen Challengers yet) but I don't think either are close to being movie stars let alone good actors.
Embarrassing lists -- what the hell are YOU DOING
