    Great video Chris! The printer seems to be a lot of fun! And it's great to see that Fuji is able to program a reliable app.
    I wish Fuji would not only introduce a device for people having fun with their phones. I would love to have a decent rangefinder camera for instax wide with one of these terrific Fujinon lenses. And yes, I think there is a market for this too. Instax is so much more than a hipster product and can have a wonderful painterly look when exposed directly through a good lens. It's not just me, but there are so many people out there who hack Instax wide cameras, Polaroids from the 110 series, print 3D stuff or shoot this film in 4x5 cameras. Too bad if Fuji hadn't an eye on film shooters too when developing new products.

    I have the SP3 Instax Square and it's a big hit at gatherings.
    Will link either via the app, or straight from my Fuji cameras.
    I keep it in the semi hard sided case that will hold extra packages of prints and fits very nicely in my camara bag, and it has a print remaining counter!

    Hello pal2tech! Do you have a specific video about face detect? I just came back from my own birthday party and gave my little brother my x-s10 in full auto and there were several pics that had faces detected, but the focus point was somewhere else in the picture. Why does it do that? Why does it detect the face but focus on something else? I love Fuji so much but find it is not at all "will you take my picture?" friendly.

  • @SergevanNeck

    Looks cute but I cannot understand why Fuji has removed the ability to print directly from a Fuji camera. I have the Instax SP 2 which does print directly from my Fuji cameras (X-H1, X100V and yes, even the XP130). I mean, what the heck, Fuji? Why make me download pictures to my phone and then print them, when I should be able to connect directly from my camera? It's like they see their customer base as made up of 3 disconnected groups that have no shared interests: (1) consumers who like to print snapshots; (2) art photogs who like to shoot digital the way they shoot film (the X-Pro, X-T and X100 crowd), and (3) photography/video working stiffs who need the top of the line hardware and AI features (like the X-H2S). All of these products are great, but Fuji doesn't seem to realize that there is overlap between these 3 different groups, and they're alienating people who are part of more than one.

    • @AstuteJoe
      @AstuteJoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's pretty dumb but it's because most fuji cameras (except X-S10 and probably X-2HS) can only transfer images through wifi and the new printers are bluetooth (easier for smartphones) while the SP-2 is wifi and therefore compatible.

    I can’t comprehend how the instax cameras have essentially doubled in price in the past year. I got my instax SQ6 a few years ago for around 70 USD on Amazon but now they go for 180 which is absurd and way too much. I wanted to recommend my friend instax because we had fun shooting mine at a party but then we looked at the prices of the current cameras and were like wtf. The only somewhat reasonably priced square camera is so paired down and lacks double exposure, exposure control, etc.

      The SP-2 printer Was great. I agree sometimes it was challenging getting the contrast right, but on the other hand it’s an instant print. I wouldn’t expect it to have the same range as the JPEG from the 100V. I went to Cuba in Guatemala 2-3 years ago I created a custom simulation that yielded a good print.
      I took over 100 portraits and gave the subjects prints. It was a great icebreaker and made people smile, despite my Basic Spanish🤣. Any people something tangible they can hold and take home is always better than texting. FYI I have a couple Instax prints Did I have tapes a few of my walls to see how much they fade in the ambient light in the past 3 years. I can report that they’re holding up pretty well. They have not been in direct sunlight but the blacks and darker tones are getting a little bit lighter.

Since They discontinued the Instax SP2, Only the square format SP3 printer is the only Fuji printer that will print from my XProx-3 and X 100V. Those printers are great for printing JPEG‘s from Fujifilm x-series cameras. It looks like Fujifilm making printers for smart phones only now.

    I bought the wide and returned after I realized I couldn't print using my camera, seems only the X-S10 supports sends pictures over Bluetooth and that's such a dumb design decision. Also only the SP-2 supports receiving pictures over wifi, so that's also why it's only one compatible with all the cameras.

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quality is just a step above the old polaroids. Need to set brightness down a bit as they tend to print just a tad too bright, but easily fixable.

  • @jordangrobe8698
    @jordangrobe8698 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Been playing around with the Instax Link Wide for a few weeks now - lovely little device, but frustrating to actually get the print quality up-to-snuff. I know it’s mostly just for fun, but at $1/print you’d hope they’d make it easier to get a desirable result the first time around!
    Do you have any recommendations for brightness levels / contrast adjustments? The brightness difference between a backlit image and a printed one is definitely noticeable, with unadjusted prints coming out fairly dark. There’s also the Rich vs. Natural print modes; does the new Mini printer have those as well? I use (and much prefer) Rich, but it can still be a bit too contrasty at times.
    It’s also a bit infuriating to frame the image up correctly - at least on the Wide, when you load an image it crops it fairly dramatically and there’s no way at all to crop out within the app, so I’ve taken to creating an iPhone shortcut that adds a 5% white border to my images before printing, otherwise I’d lose edge details. Even then what you see in the app isn’t actually what you get in the print, as the app tends to crop in slightly more than the actual print does.
    All-in-all I appreciate the device and have had lots of fun with it, but I wouldn’t exactly call it intuitive or plug-and-play if you care about the quality of the resulting image beyond the instant-fun part of it.

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I generally darken the images always. I notice that they print on the bright side. Also, try the other film sim/filter, I forget what it's called, but it adds more color.

    • @jordangrobe8698
      @jordangrobe8698 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pal2tech oh that’s interesting! I do use the Rich mode instead of Natural (which I think is what you’re referring to on the film sim with more color), but the Wide prints lean much darker rather than brighter - I wonder if something is functioning differently between the Link Wide app and the Link Mini app?

    • @ajdrew42
      @ajdrew42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if the V2 is different but with the existing model I reduce the photo contrast in the app before printing as my default move. Shadows tend to be underexposed, highlights tend to be over-exposed. Cooler and warmer tones can also be exaggerated so you may need to adjust the tint to compensate. It's digital to film rather than the other way around so prints won't quite look the same as the source material, but the unique style can be something to embrace.

    I really do like these types of photo printers, but the photo size is to small, i would have liked it to be something like 9*15 cm.

    Looks like fun... But a brand new product in mid-2022 with micro-USB instead of USB-C? Especially in a device that relies on portability, I consider this a big minus, you don't want to have X different cables with you on the go.

      @pal2tech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, why on earth they didn't go with USB-C is beyond me.

    Which one should I have...
    Instax mini evo, or Instax mini link 2?
    I already watched your review about the mini evo. Still don't know which one

    • @ppanda2974
      @ppanda2974 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if you're talking from a pure functionality standpoint, then you should 100% go with the mini link 2 since most phones nowadays are more than capable of shooting better pictures than the evo, its also a lot easier to edit and tune those photos on your phone using an app as opposed to the evo whicj does not offer a lot in terms of editing. however, the evo is still more fun to use due to the fact that it still gives you that retro feeling when youre using it and it just feels more personal. it can also do everything the mini link 2 does so you arent really missing out on much. with that being said, you're still paying double the price and as someone who owns both, it is definitely not double the product. so if you just want a way to print high quality prints and not have to worry about fiddling with a camera, go with the mini link 2, but if you have money to spare and you feel like you value the novelty and experience that comes with using an actual camera, then go with the evo. either way, you definitely wont be disappointed with either product.

    they had to make a good app or the printer is useless. can do you do some reviews of cameras based only on the app.

    I took some phone movies of Boris Karloff's Fu Man Chu off my monitor. It's a beautifully made film and his best character. Grinning diabolically while downing a mystery smoking brew while his face is distorted in a piece of glass, that would be the first pic I'd print. If you think about it, you could collage different people in the match making software. Hillary and Don. Elon Musk and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Scarlet Johanssen and Moe Howard.

    I feel like if you're going to use the Instax films, you use them in analog form. Not with these digital lcd flash screens. I feel like that defeats the purpose. I collect Instax cameras, but will not purchase the digital ones.

    Micro USB? Really?

  • @educatetube
    @educatetube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    No thanks. The reason I would not buy any of these portable printers are the cost of the film papers. 20 photos for $14 USD?! Are you kidding...that is crazy! I bought a thermal printer (black/white printing) that cost me $40 and I can print for less than 1 cent per business card size. In fact, I go to thrift stores and hunts for these rolls of thermal paper and it now cost me less than 1/10 of a cent to print. Now that is innovation and cost effective technology.

    Why a micro USB plug? Fuji, please stop using it. That's a deal breaker. I've been phasing that out for gadgets where possible for quite a while to have less cords and hassle. It's old and crummy, use USB C.
