sorry to be so off topic but does any of you know a method to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I love any tips you can give me
@Harley Braylon thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
The Manix 2 backlock is an awesome choice for #1, so overlooked in the hard use knives. When the backlock engages it snaps so hard it almost hurts your ears..:). Love carrying that blade for an edc. Also Medford makes some really great hard use blades as well, and can’t leave out the Cold Steel line, especially the SR1.
I was going to add the SR1 to this list. That has to be the king of the hill if you want large, heavy folder with thick blade. It’s intimidating with the tanto and that’s why I love it.
What is most incredible these days is how many great choices are out there. I don't have a single one of those but still I have plenty of what I consider hard use knives. Happy days for knife enthusiasts! :)
I do manual labor for a living, and my beater of choice is a plain jane aus 8 esee avispa. I got it under $30, I like the all black look, the frame lock, bronze washers, the spearpoint tip, the blade length, and with the toughness and ease of sharpening it comes in clutch without worries of breaking even if aus 8 is now considered boring and no longer the shiny new toy on the block. Everyone says theyre not sure about it at first but it usually grows on them.
In no particular order: Voyager lg clip, Real Steel H5 & H6, Recon 1, American Lawman, WE Streak, Kershaw Link m390, CH3504, Rat 1 in D2, Civivi Praxis,
True hard use knives, in my opinion, need to be fixed blade. If you want to disable a folder, just pry back and forth hard on on the blade in a side to side motion. It will soon bend at the blade/handle joint no matter what kind of lock it is. The blade will be lose or jam and become useless. That’s it. A full tang fixed blade WILL beat any folder. I guarantee I could disable any of those folders, or any other, in minutes. I love your videos, keep it up!
Thanks Joe. You're right about fixed blades, no argument from me. Lots of stuff I do with a fixed blade that I would never attempt with a folder. I get nervous just watching someone batoning with a folder.
I would consider the Endura to be a hard use kitchen knife LOL. Every time I pick mine up I feel like I could snap in half if I wanted to. But to each his own.
Love your views on these knives. I’m a self employed carpenter, I love a great knife or tool. If I pay a lot, I expect a lot, and I plan to USE it but not abuse it as well as maintain anything I part cash for. If had the the spare cash, I’d have a tool drawer of just great, Funktional pocket knifes and multi tools. I’m eyeing a spiderco roc for my next carry. I’ve got a broker magnum that looks like a tiny cleaver. I think it’s hilarious and tough af. I’m sold on the mini cleaver for a while to come. Love your content, knife nerds unite!
So you set rules for your list and then don’t adhere to them? Also you choose frame lock knives but rule out liner locks. Tests have shown liner locks to be just as strong as frame locks and stronger in many cases
All very good knives for every day use. I allways been a fan of the buck 110 I carry it for work every day and I'm a plumber so it's been it some rough situations. My co workers carry box cutter style knives. Wished I had a dollar for every time someone asked me to barrow my real knife LOL. I actually have 2 of them. Wow, very nice list. How's the action on your Buck 110 Slim Pro? Did you break it in yet? Mine is very difficult to deploy with the thumb studs. It's to the point where it kinda hurts to operate it. Just wondering if there's a light at the end of this tunnel.

I finally gave in and bought a Cold Steel 4-Max, which is at the top of my list. Behind that, would be the Cold Steel AD10, Recon 1, and American Lawman. For my use-it-like-I-stole-it hard use knives, the Spyderco Tenacious with combo edge or any of the larger Walmart Kershaw specials with combo edges.
Very nice choices Scott. The 4-Max is is such a good looking knife that I almost purchased a few times now. I had to be honest with myself because I know I would never carry it. For me, it's too expensive of a knife to not carry. So, I guess that's the only thing holding me back, but man is it a gorgeous knife.
Awesome list Brother 👍 I agree with you about the Sebenza I don't personally own one but I've held them and in hand it begs to be used IMHO ! I've got an AD10 under the Christmas tree that I can't wait to get my hands on I've been eyeing one for a while and couldn't be happier about getting that knife !
Gorgeous $tuff, thx... but yeah, interesting how 'knives', perhaps the oldest and most original 'tools' of all, now seem to be turning into either pricey 'Designer' fidget toys, or pampered 'Obects d'Art' complete with ball bearings, super steel and hi-tech mechanisms... that many folks will never even *_use_* (aside from opening the occasional Amazon pkg... lol)?!
For me hard use is more cutting carpet or things I shouldn’t so I like to take a tool steel and see if I can dull or chip the edge. The Benchmade super Freek in M4 or or my PM2 in M4. Maybe some cruwear or S90v.
Yeah, I don't get it. If by hard use you mean use alot I'd say you'd want a balance between blade thickness and durability. Prybars suck at cutting and unless you're prying you're probably not going to break your knife. They are pretty cool though. But the cool factor increases the work you've got to do and the time it takes to do it. I've got my mora and Olfa snap off for actual hard use. R2D2 still gets the most pocket time for me. Easy to touch up, don't care if I chip it and don't even notice it in the junk drawer pocket.
Lemme think. As for knives I own that are folders for hard use? The Benchmade full-size Crooked River, The Buck 500 and the OKC Rat 1 (but I gave that to a good friend). I have a lot of fixed blades that I beat to death though. The BK-2 is my beater for sure.
Jay, pleases help me out... CJRB Centros, Bestech Spike or large Cutjack? Which do you think has the best build quality. I’m ok with the materials in the Spike and it is on sale for $39. Which of these is put together the best?
@@TheKnifeBeater I have largish hands. Love the R2D2 but it is just too small for my hands. The only small knife that weirdly works for me is the Squid... and it is tiny.
I have the ZT 0562 in carbon fiber! Great knife but was considering selling it. My only complaint is the frame lock sticks sometimes, and I don't think that should be an issue on a knife that costs over $200! Thoughts?
I hear ya Erik and you're right, it shouldn't be an issue. Have you tried a little bit of pencil lead on the top of the hardened steel insert? Sometimes that gets rid of lock stick.
Fair question Conner. I was so excited when Spyderco announced the Shaman, couldn't wait to get my hands on one. Well, I had one and didn't keep it for a few reasons. I think this is where my leftyism really affected my opinion, it was very difficult and awkward to operate. It had to be something about the size because I have a Sage 5 compression lock that works just fine for me. The action on my Shaman wasn't too great and had a heck of a time tuning the pivot to get rid of the blade play. On top of all that, I watched the price go from $150 to where it's at now. Believe me Conner, I often think about giving the Shaman another try, especially if Spyderco makes a lefty version. So, it's not because the Shaman is a bad knife, it just didn't work for me.
@@TheKnifeBeater Thanks for the reply Jay! A well thought out one at that. Hopefully there'll be a LeftyLove version sometime in the future. Happy Holidays!
Saber grind for the win! Love the full flat ground Spyderco options, but the heaviest duty saber grind option almost always feels better IMHO during use. Delica and Endura models should have both options if ya pay attention to what ya want. Great channel btw!!!
Budget concerns and logistics of getting a good pocket knife in Asia - 2 buck 265 and a browning. Already cost me well over 1000 hkd, and took a long time to arrive. But the bucks see use that would make people cringe.
Thanks J......I'm aware of a new knife from CRJB called the 'Feldspar'....The larger of them is a little over 3.5 inches and they run on bearings. Gorgeous full flat grinds and G10 scales, if you get the chance give it a look.
Yeah, I do like the AD10, but I don't carry it much. For my purposes, I would look a little ridiculous using it in public. If I needed something for harder use, it's a great choice. Thanks for watching Josep.
Hmm i carry and swap out between a few.. Manix 2 m390 is latest. A manix s90v . para 2 with dlc and putman scales. Stretch .as backup an ontario falcon for really tough stuff. Liked the show
Thanks Mark. I recently saw that Manix 2 M390, it's beautiful, love the colors. Funny you mention the OKC Falcon because I actually own that tank. Not sure why I bought it, I couldn't help myself.
Thanks Gman. It's an MXG Gear clip designed for the Kershaw Blur. www.mxggear.com/collections/blur/products/custom-made-titanium-deep-carry-pocket-clip-for-kershaw-knives-17?variant=6125338947
Sure I would Scott, especially the older Ganzo's, like the FB760 amzn.to/2Qoio63. I'm not sure what level of hard use it can handle, it's more about how inexpensive it is to replace.
The razorlite is a better choice for work. It comes with 6 extra razor sharp blades so you can just chang the blade out when it gets dull. Or if you know how you can just reshaped it. That's what I do. I'm a plumber so I put this knife thrugh hell. I do everything from sharpening a pencil to cutting cardboard boxes to wire stripping to cutting roots out of the ground. Everybody has there favorite but you should Atleast try it out. I use to carry Kershaw. Buck. And Gerber and none of them could hold up to my work invirement.
I mean there should be a Medford and hinderer in there too 🤪 (I can’t fault you there cause I haven’t splurged a whole paycheck on one yet either 😂) I would suggest the WE 620 it has like 4mm stock titanium scales great purchase just a beast of a knife it was discontinued recently but there are some floating around
Most sensible people who splurge on a Hinderer, CRK, or Medford, figure out that after the novelty wears off...those knives stay in the drawer. It just hurts too much to lose or damage a $600.00 knife.
Have to disagree on the inclusion of the Endura. Nice slicer but I cannot see it serving well in a city or woods survival situation. Any excessive lateral pressure could snap the blade at the pivot.
You bet David, here ya go: www.mxggear.com/collections/blur/products/custom-made-titanium-deep-carry-pocket-clip-for-kershaw-knives-17?variant=6125338947
Barring My Manix 2LW because to date it's my most precious knife and also my Native 5LW because it's a bit smallish. So that makes the Kizer Kesmec my #1, although that would be the Vanguard version (runs on washers and wouldn't cost as much to replace as the Bladesmith version you showed). A very close #2 would be my Real Steel Luna, which I actually find more awesome in many ways than I do the Kesmec but it doesn't suit my hand quite as well. And then there's a bunch of really cheap knives, like the Enlan EL-04 - a sort of Frankenstein-knife with a hilt very similar to that of the Manix and a blade shaped not unlike that on the Hogue Doug Ritter, or the stumpy MO-27 which is just very good in hand and pretty good at cutting. Ofcourse there's also the Ganzo FB7603 and should I mention the F710?(Rift?). I guess I shouldn't even name the remainder of my top 10 beaters, because I think they all run on ballbearings and they're all even cheaper than the ones I've mentioned ... So I guess my hard use knives are just cheap as shit. In fact I'd probably just grab a Morakniv whenever I have some abuse in mind😑
It's those "cheap ones" that make some of the best hard users, even with ball-bearings. I love the grind on Mora's, makes them really enjoyable to use. I'll have to check out that EL-04, thanks for the heads up.
Sorry about that. Couldn't find a link for it on Amazon. I only have one for Blade HQ www.bladehq.com/item--Kizer-Pinkerton-Escort-Flipper--34499, but it looks to be out of stock.
You mention in the beginning of the video that you don't consider ball bearing pivot for hard use and then half the knives on the list have ball bearing pivots??? What the heck is the Endura doing in a hard use list? So many things that don't make sense. Although I love Titanium frame lock knives, most of them will release with a gentle spine tap.
Seems like you ignored your own rule about ball bearing pivots. I don’t mind them so much in a hard use knife. Just take them apart and clean them now and then. My top 5 1: Cold Steel AD15 2: ZT 0562Ti 3: Cold Steel American Lawman 4: Benchmade Super Freek 5: Spyderco Shaman
The Knife Beater : I forgot my all time favorite “beater” of all time. The OKC Rat 1 D2. Its ugly, but just a well designed tool. If I think I’m gonna do a job that’s really tough on a knife I grab the Rat. It takes all the abuse I can give it, and begs for more. I know, it’s a liner lock, but I’ve never had one fail. But then again, I don’t put much pressure on the spine of any of my knives. The sharp side is where work gets done.
Thanks Tom. I know, it kinda stinks. At least since it didn't sell too well, you can still find them at some retailers. Bento Box Shop has them for about $143, which is the lowest price I've seen.
Texas Exile :- You are correct, but for the sake of argument, there are a few "hard" use folders out there. It is just that in this video several of the choices just don't make sense...like the Endura, with FRN scales. But you are right about fixed bladed knives being the only true hard use knives.
Sorry, but any knife with FRN handles, or G10 on show side & metal on lockside cannot be considered a hard use knife. If substantial steel liners (no skeltonized liners) are used, then that would be acceptable. This is not to say that such knives are not EDC capable, just not hard use. Really, folders should not be included in a list of hard use knives, as only fixed blade knives can actually take the abuse of a hard use knife. Semantics...yes, but still true.
@@TheKnifeBeater :- The Cold Steel Tri-ad lock is one of the strongest lockbacks on the market. But still, all folders are already broken (at the pivot) and none are capable of (long term) hard use as are full tang fixed blade knives. Cold Steel hype aside, if you want to do a true explosive video...try comparing a couple of fixed blade knives against a few "super" lock folding knives.

Great list of knives .Thanks for sharing !!
Anytime Patrick, thank you.
Lemme think. As for knives I own that are folders for hard use? The Benchmade full-size Crooked River, The Buck 500 and the OKC Rat 1 (but I gave that to a good friend). I have a lot of fixed blades that I beat to death though. The BK-2 is my beater for sure.
I really like your choices Brad, they're good ones.
Jay, pleases help me out... CJRB Centros, Bestech Spike or large Cutjack? Which do you think has the best build quality. I’m ok with the materials in the Spike and it is on sale for $39. Which of these is put together the best?
I would have to go with the large Cutjack. Oddly enough though, I prefer the mini version slightly more than the full size.
@@TheKnifeBeater I have largish hands. Love the R2D2 but it is just too small for my hands. The only small knife that weirdly works for me is the Squid... and it is tiny.
What are scales made of on the Lion Steel? Thanks for your feedback.
ZT 0801/801ti, Benchmade super Freek M4 and some Matt Cucchiara’s designs from Kizer have to be on the list. But your choices are not bad at all.
I like your choices. I have the cousin to your zt0801, the 0808. I'm a fan of Cucchiara's designs as well. I only have the Flashbang and I love it.
Maybe the Giant Mouse Ace Grande was not out at the time of this video. But … it is my all time fave for heavier use knives.
Well chosen.
Though I've gotta ask, what kept the shaman off the list?
Jay, fyi the sabre ground endura has a thicker blade stock.
I didn't realize that, thank you.
Great choices and great knives. That Lionsteel is a tank!
Thank you much. Yeah, it really is a monster.
Thanks J......I'm aware of a new knife from CRJB called the 'Feldspar'....The larger of them is a little over 3.5 inches and they run on bearings. Gorgeous full flat grinds and G10 scales, if you get the chance give it a look.
Oh yeah, I've seen it. Great looking knife. Thanks for the heads up Andrew.
CS's AD-10. Still I have not an unit, but despite the fact, I'm convinced that is a 'round' knife.
Yeah, I do like the AD10, but I don't carry it much. For my purposes, I would look a little ridiculous using it in public. If I needed something for harder use, it's a great choice. Thanks for watching Josep.
Where did you get the custom deep carry clip for the Cold Steel AD 10 ?
My list is short. OKC XM1, and Benchmade 810 Contego.
That's okay Geomar, those are good ones to have. Thanks for watching.
I wonder if they’ll release a Spyderco Endura 5 in the next couple years. Endura 4 is the one I always go back to for EDC no matter what else I buy.
I hear ya, I'm the same way. An Endura 5 would be great, as long as they add a forward choil.
MT: Gear/Man Stuff/Nature/Etc I’m like that with the Delica 4!
@@TheKnifeBeater i did have Cleveland kidex make a sheath for the falcon .made it more useable. Have a great day sir.
Nice video
Nice list of toughies.
Is that a pops clip on your AD10?
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Gman. It's an MXG Gear clip designed for the Kershaw Blur.
www.mxggear.com/collections/blur/products/custom-made-titanium-deep-carry-pocket-clip-for-kershaw-knives-17?variant=6125338947
Get a 110 Slim. Lighter model with a pocket clip.
would you use any of the ganzo knives as a hard use knife?
I mean there should be a Medford and hinderer in there too 🤪 (I can’t fault you there cause I haven’t splurged a whole paycheck on one yet either 😂)
I would suggest the WE 620 it has like 4mm stock titanium scales great purchase just a beast of a knife it was discontinued recently but there are some floating around
Oh the WE is m390 as well original price of 250 it’s selling around 200 now used
Most sensible people who splurge on a Hinderer, CRK, or Medford, figure out that after the novelty wears off...those knives stay in the drawer. It just hurts too much to lose or damage a $600.00 knife.

What thumb stub add on are you using for the worker?
It's a Kwik thumb stud from Amazon, here's the link: amzn.to/30If3mN
my top list only has two, the benchmade freek, and hinderer xm-18 :)
Those are definitely two good ones to have. Very nice.
Amazon has the “Spyderco 2160265 C101MBGP2 Manix 2 G10 Handle Blade Open Knife, Black, 3.37"/8.03" in stock for $162.
Thanks for the heads up on that Vincent.
I owned a knife with a hole in the blade once... guess where it broke, when needed the most... nuff said...
A good batch of working knives.
Thanks Matt. Yeah, I really tried to pick out actual user knives. I thought about your voice over work when I started watching that Mandolorian show.
@@TheKnifeBeater Thanks! I hear that's a really good show. I recently got to voice Luke Skywalker in the 3rd episode of Once Upon a theory.
Have to disagree on the inclusion of the Endura. Nice slicer but I cannot see it serving well in a city or woods survival situation. Any excessive lateral pressure could snap the blade at the pivot.
Please let me know where you got your clip for your Ad10
You bet David, here ya go:

My EDC carry knives Lionsteel M4 M390 fixed blade , Lionsteel B40 fixed blade and a Spyderco Manix 2 M390 folder as a backup knife.
Nice choices Mark. I have almost purchased the LionSteel M4 a few times now, it will eventually be in my collection.
Great video very entertaining!!
Oh good, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
P852 from ruike ...beast
Nice choices Piper. Thanks for the heads up about the knives.
Pretty sure the Osborne 940 should have been in there somewhere it’s the hard use EDC all others are compared to.
I hear ya Pat. It's not here because I never really considered it a true hard use folder. Thank you for the feedback.
🤦🏻♂️
154cm is a great working field stainless knife steel
I hear ya Marc. 154CM is a decent steel that sharpens up nicely. I have a couple Hogue EX-03's that use the very same.
Where is the link to the kizer?
My top 5
1: Cold Steel AD15
2: ZT 0562Ti
3: Cold Steel American Lawman
4: Benchmade Super Freek
5: Spyderco Shaman
I don't mind ball-bearings either, but I know washers are ideal for hard use and require less maintenance. I like your list, very nice.
Try the kershaw kuro. Beat it to death , its a die hard
No Ontario Rat 1 or 2 in D2? I'm honestly surprised!
Have Cold Steel Golden eye. You can do almost anything with it
That's what I've heard Russ. I do need to get my hands on one.
What about the rated toughest production made folding knife in the world..... The Cold Steel 4Max??? Lol
I wanted one of those for the longest time, but I just know I'd never carry it. Thank you L Mac.
@@TheKnifeBeater :- Correct...you did say EDC
Look at First Edge
I’ve never seen a Keizer with a t10 pivot it’s t8
Jay great list!! I completely agree with you on CS they’re all hard use workers!!! Thanks for sharing brother!!!!👊👊👊👊
Thanks GG. It's tough to pick out just one Cold Steel.
Great list Jay! Really wish the manix 2 back lock was still being made really loved that choice
Thanks Tom. I know, it kinda stinks. At least since it didn't sell too well, you can still find them at some retailers. Bento Box Shop has them for about $143, which is the lowest price I've seen.
Sebenza? Really? I won't use that knife for hard use. So expensive.
Hayden Smith :- You got that right...most people who would buy any CRK are probably afraid to lose or break it.
I am glad you included the Endura love that knife
Me too Jeff, lots to love about it.
Mine top 10 is khukri..
Fixed blade knives are hard use knives. Hard use knives are fixed blade knives. Do butchers use folders? Folders are "nice".
Yep, I kinda assumed that people looking for and buying knives were aware of the differences between a fixed and a folder. Thanks for watching.
You might want to tell Cold Steel that.
Ball bearings on knives suck for every reason you can think of. There good for one thing, idiots can open there knife and go wow.
Oops wrong video to reply to
Always a class act, brother Jay. Most enjoyable as per usual of course. Happy Holidays, sir (and to everyone).
Thank you JP. If you celebrate, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Never seen that lionsteel tm1. That thing looks stout in a good way!
Yeah, never really a popular knife. I believe I learned about it from Kevin Cleary's channel a few years back. Thanks Aaron.
Frn scales with no liners hard use what? Nahh
Benchmade has been making kinda crap lately alchemy and a few others say so
sean lohr :- politics
Yep
