Another great video, Kate. Almost bought a RNineT a few years ago, but went with a Ducati Monster instead (the sound of Termignoni race pipes loosened my wallet!). I've always liked the look of the RNineT though despite not being a BMW boxer fan in general. I think they nailed the styling and customisation options with it. This new one looks even better, but to not have a fuel gauge on a modern TFT is inexcusable!
As a safety measure, I don't understand why BMW ask for another £200 for better headlights, that should be standard on all bikes they sell. These additional costs are becoming too common in my opinion, it is one thing to pay more for special paint or a more comfortable seat, or luggage etc, but safety features, if available, should always be included in the base price.
Let’s be honest, if they only offered the better headlight, it would hike the minimum bike price up. Look at it as an opportunity to reduce the price of the bike if you don’t want a better headlight rather than a price riser.
And seats this is common practice even Incar industry . I don’t thin’ the bean counters realise h9w much it pisses buyers off. I have a 2016 sporster with the alu tank. Spent too much making it better to change , new wheels, led headlamp , rapid bike evo, rizoma bars, airbox delete and so on
It's so similarly designed as my 1995 R1100R. That had the paralever front suspension and handled like a dream. If I were physically able to ride yet, this is what I would be riding.
Nice review Kate! I agree about the lack of fuel info; it really is a miss. I just picked up a new 24' R1250 RT here in the states. I'm just over the top with it, even during this break-in period. Can't wait to let its legs stretch.
The no fuel gauge thing is what wrote the old Nine T off for me when I was doing my bike search. I cannot believe they didn't rectify that problem with the new bike...especially considering that you have a TFT option now. What are they thinking?
Keep track of your mileage and you will never need a fuel gauge. I've owned 14 bikes over the years and only one had a fuel gauge and I only ran out of gas one time in 300,000 + miles of riding.
@@jamesschneider3828 I'm always surprised when people complain about the lack of a fuel gauge. Are they new riders? In my 14 years of riding, never once did the lack of a fuel gauge matter, even considering my '07 10r only got 110 miles till the fuel light came on on a cross Texas trip.
@@taylorhickman84 Yes, I am a new rider, but it's more than that. Why is it that nearly every single bike you buy new today has a fuel gauge....except for a bike from one of the most premium brands? There's no excuse for not having a fuel gauge, except that they just don't give a shit.
@or0 "Why is it that nearly every single bike you buy new today has a fuel gauge" that simply isn't true any any rider with "forethought shouldn't be concerned with having one. They aren't telling you to "screw off", but perhaps they don't "give a shit" because you don't need one.

Great review Kate, sometimes I just don't get BMW, no fuel gauge!! It puts me off going near a dealer. The more reviews I view on the new BMW range makes my wallet want to leg it 😮
A very nice machine, no coolant or chain hassles. I'd be happy with just having heated grips with it. Hill starts are something many of us have been doing for donkeys years with a size 8 on the back brake, so hill assist and other such fripperies are too much of a lazy indulgence. I do like the green paint though.
Well kate another great vlog they are getting more and more slick ,can only say all the work you guys put in is only going one way, ka ching I totally agree with the no fuel gauge issue we are 2024 ,on a bike that expensive.... really !!
For the types of roads that are most rewarding to ride in the UK, it's all about the torque, and where it's available, plus being able to set the suspension up for your weight. Most UK B roads are either knackered, or so badly repaired, it's a joke. Not quite a series of potholes surrounded by tarmac, but not far off. Having said that, the scenery's beautiful, especially round the Trough. You should nip in to the cafe at Dunsop Bridge next time you're over there...they do nice cake! I reckon BMW should do the San Remo colour way with the tail hump shown on the 719. Keep the brushed ali panel theme on the sides (like race number panels) but paint the top section in the dark sage green.
Overpriced but beautiful bike and love the blue colour forming on the pipe already. These bikes sound so good with an aftermarket exhaust. Kate you really should have your own show on Tv. Just seems natural and in times with showcasing bikes. Contact bbc or what evers the go in the uk. 😃
Awesome review! No fuel gauge - no bueno! That would be a deal breaker for me. Quite honestly I think it's silly. Especially for BMW. With the technology we have today I reckon someone could design a fuel gauge foe a thimble. Other than that is is a beautiful bike. That area was " the trough?" Very nice indeed . Cool rock walls . 😉 Best!
I do think £2k for a headlight that works and a different colour is a bit much. £980 for a comfy seat and some nonsense!!!! The extras are a ridiculous price. The bike looks great but the ethics of BMW pricing are so suspect :) Great review as ever x
No on is else going to buy one of these for £14k as everything is extra, particularly when the standard colours are black and nothing else. It's classic BMW though, a huge reason why I got a Triumph Tiger 1200 instead of a GS. With all the features I got the BMW would have been thousands more.
You sounded like you were going back to your old job at the start, full on sales bod😂. I loved the R9t but it needed to modern tech this now has (apart from that optional dash, modern classics need clocks IMO). For me to consider it it also needed some wind protection, which you can now get. It is silly money now though as both the 1250R and 1250RS are cheaper. One thing that winds me up about BMW is the "packs" are not standard across the range, nor between countries. To get what you want (unless you get a GS) you have to add stuff to the build which is then worth nothing at trade in.
I love the younger voices, they don't know what they don't know. The very British Green, God knows what San Remo has to do with it apart from the Germans hating themselves. You've said sorry enough now BMW. now Just own it! Oh, for those who are a little concrete - you couldn't get a more German Green if you tried!
I ran it until the fuel light came on, then it gave me a count up with every mile I put on it. I got to 18 miles on this count up and didn't want to risk running out so I fueled up. I suspect you'd get about 20-25 miles from the start of the count up but of course, it depends how you ride! :) I also didnt fancy running dry to find the limits 🤣
That digital speedo is a Crime on a Retro bike like the R12 or R9 whatever that is. I'd definitely get the classic round ones. BMW did a great job confusing the hell out of people with the name of this bike - R12 9 T??? By the way BMW bike prices are going through the Roof. Now, the GS is pushing to $30K, RT is $28K, K bikes are over $30K. And, the big lie, German CPi is coming down???
£14k as base price ? I don't think that is "reasonable ". It is reasonable for the R1250RS because it has way more stuff and fairing. I mean this is now more expensive than the Harley equivalent
What a glorious looking thing. How can BMW cars be such dire looking things and the bikes look brilliant? I’d have one of these. Top review. I’m enjoying these part standing, part riding first impressions videos.
Nice ride-out, still trying to figure out where you went. I recognised some of the roads but can't remember where they are (dementia!). Had an R1200R for ten years, same engine, transmission, etc. Fantastic bike, handles like a gyroscope. I loved it, but as with all naked bikes just too cold in the northern UK winter. Traded mine for an RT last year. Surprised to learn you're only 5ft 4ins, you look taller on your vids but it doesn't seem to be holding you back. If you think a 220kg bike is hard to push around you should try my RT at 279kg! That said you never feel its weight on the road, it's an engineering masterpiece imho! Good luck!
Eeeee I'm not sure about this one.. don't get the need to rename it to that mouthful R12nineT.. And that's far too many pricy options to make it any better than bog standard.. like everyone's raving about that nice little LED display.. but you have to choose whether to add it!? Should just be standard with the new model since not much has changed.. that chrome and red colour scheme does look mega though.. if you're gonna own one of these it has to stand out, otherwise it's pointless. Shame it doesn't have the new shift cam tech and a few bells and whistles as standard to justify the updated release
Excellent vid. I thought that Ducati had cornered the market for absurdly overpriced bikes. But, with this one, BMW wins hands down. It's basic and air cooled for ****'* sake! I look forward to seeing the sales figs - if there are any.
Everyone knows that you buy a BMW, Ducati, KTM etc you never buy the poverty bike, you always add some extra. Because good luck trying to sell or trade it in for good money, so please stop giving Kate grief for giving us all good reviews
That drone footage is first rate 👍 I love the sound and feeling (throttle) of the oil-cooled motor and, from your commentary, it sounds like BMW upped their game on the suspension. I think the new design flows better and looks more of a piece rather than a construction project. Like you, I like analog gauges, but I also like the small LCD screen as I believe the dinner platter LCD screens look odd on naked bikes, like you forgot to move your iPad before taking off. I wasn’t in the market for another tooling-around motorcycle, but your wonderful review has got me thinking . . .
With those who want more information about the fuel gauge situation...
In other words the gas gauge is the low fuel light. This makes good sense to me. To confirm, set trip odometer to zero at each fill-up, then when the low fuel light comes on, check average miles per gallon. As you say, there remains about 20 or 25 miles of reserve.
Very confused with the name, r12 nine t. The original r nine t was made to celebrate 90 years of bmw building bikes. This new bike is 10 years late to the party.
Thr same old engine with modern electronics tagged on and a ridiculous instrument cluster that's out of place on a retro motorbike. Add the high price into the mix and forget about buying one of these and get a Japanese competitor which will be better and thousands of pounds cheaper.
@@iancraig6070 I'm not angry. I'm just saying that this BMW is a mixmash of old and new technology and not worth the money. The boxer engine goes way back and the instrument panel is ridiculous on a retro bike, especially as it doesn't even contain a fuel gauge. If anyone ever drops that bike it will wreck the engine unless you can buy engine bars for the bike and then it will look ridiculous and bulky even if they're available and expect to pay at least another thousand pounds. There are better retro bikes on the market for almost half the price of this top spec BMW.
@@Apollo949 I have the 2016 nine t,previously owned Japanese bikes, all naked.I have to say it's the best balanced handling bike I've owned. The boxer engine has torque everywhere, but the main thing is it makes me smile. Enjoy your biking whatever you ride.
@@iancraig6070 Well, as long as you like it that's okay. We all ride different bikes and if we didn't it wouldn't be worth going to bike meets would it?
Like all bmw car's or bikes it's all the extras the only free things on any bmw's is the air my old bmw got a lot of looks of people the handling was not that good i will have to try a new on to compare to my old one but you do make it sound good kate
Nice looking bike but 14000+ it’s out of the price range of loads of petrol , what dash need binoculars to see the smaller digits,if that’s what they now call a dash ,I’m really Father Christmas , the bike industry as gone nuts on pricing 😮 another good review 😊
Great 1st ride review Kate - and what a machine! I'm presuming there's a low fuel warning light which is good enough for me; I fill up before every ride and reset the trip meter at the same time. I like the traditional appeal of the R12 Nine T, but I do like that digital display; looks more streamlined than the twin clocks. Yes, the bike IS bit of a heffer - certainly more so than an MT-09 - but I'll bet it's more stable as a result. Shaft drive can divide opinion, and as an owner of two current and many BMWs down the years I have to admit to being biased. But I don't think anyone can argue that the R12 9T is easier to clean & maintain. Thanks again for a really professional and fun video 🙂
Was the Tesla looking for a SatNav guided charger or a safe place to self combust!?? BMW was saved by the British after WW2, the green called Oxford Green on cars is a copy almost of Racing Green. Heck our Royals are German too. LMAO
running out of fuel 🤦 ... honda sh125i have this function at the display of the ~6.9liter but it starts to blink and at the petrol station i almost can read 5-6liter of refill ...so 900ml is left this is not excact calculation like our good old german VDO instruments ! shoould i spend more on asia-products or italo-sladge with asia cpu's ? munich does the same like few other brands look at airbus/boeing how to calculate each fuel-drop right (not ana of course 🙄) brit.airways , france , lufthansa/eurowings etc. ✌️☘️
Be tempted if they do a “Pure” version, I don’t need adjustable suspension, and would rather spec it up with a few key things that are important to me and save £1000’s A bike that starts at £14k but needs best part of £1000 for things that most people want is just too much for what it is .
I have the scrambler version of the BMW R nine T from the predecessor generation to the new bike here tested and very well reviewed on this video. The seat of my bike is ergonomically right but it’s a hard seat. The front suspension and due to the 19” wheel is very competent. But what I find unbearable after an our on the saddle is the rear suspension. Very poorly forgiving. Specially in road bumps and irregular asphalt roads. I have already tested this new iteration of the bike, now called the R 12 Nine T and the seat is much more comfortable than mine, in a distance of a million miles away. The rear suspension or the new chassis of the bike, I’m not sure, but one of them or both, turned the ride into a substantial more comfortable experience, with no concessions to the sporty feeling of the ride that if isn’t the same, it possibly is even more sensible and proactive to a more spirited ride than ever, don’t you agree? This is not an irrelevant upgrade and modernization of the model, it seems to me, more like a big step up on quality of the ride. BMW probably stepped up a little their game, again. I’m wondering…and guessing, if they continue going on this climbing development it will come to a point where we’ll have to sell the family jewels to buy a BMW! 😅😂
You have to ask who in the engineering team for this bike made all the changes, electronics, suspension, lights but didn't bother with a fuel gauge! Over £14.000 as a starting point up to over £16.000 and no fuel gauge!! What thought process led to that decision? For so many people that's a deal breaker.
Not sure about that dash, does not sute the style of the bike, looks like its been lifted off a Chinese super moto! Digital clocks that look retro BMW and Triumph! For christ sake Lexus was doing it 30 years ago. Nice looking bike apart from that, better than the previous model. Yes I would wont better speck for the money.
The 1300gs needs the shaft replaced every 80000km miles at the customer expense. No thanks . Il stick with Japanese bikes . I wonder if the shaft will need replacing on the these models.
What is it with these riding modes. If I ever need to press a button when it starts raining because I lack the sense to simply back off the throttle, I'll know it's time to give up because I'm a liability on the road. Do yourself a favour and for half the price, get the earlier non bull shit model. In terms of feel it's the better bike. BMW have stangled this one to get it through the latest emissions regs and it's very noticeable
the lack of a fuel indicator has carried over from the rninet. i don't know why bmw has been so insistent on it that it seems like it's an actual feature, NOT having an indicator.

It is a bit quiet. I was passed by a new GS1300 the other day, practically could not hear it, too quiet.
You have seats at that price, ok good😅
Still no fuel guage and my 2017 looks much nicer than this version.
Nice bike , but not for me .
What a missed opportunity by BMW.
I get it, R 9 Tea 🫖
I ran it until the fuel light came on, then it gave me a count up with every mile I put on it. I got to 18 miles on this count up and didn't want to risk running out so I fueled up.
I suspect you'd get about 20-25 miles from the start of the count up but of course, it depends how you ride! :)
I also didnt fancy running dry to find the limits 🤣
In other words the gas gauge is the low fuel light. This makes good sense to me. To confirm, set trip odometer to zero at each fill-up, then when the low fuel light comes on, check average miles per gallon. As you say, there remains about 20 or 25 miles of reserve.
Very confused with the name, r12 nine t. The original r nine t was made to celebrate 90 years of bmw building bikes. This new bike is 10 years late to the party.
Too much, too messy styling wise and the state of those headers already. Otherwise great.
Gold forks are still hideously gaudy.
Fantastic review Kate, you just get better & better 100k subscribers on the way
Ha crocodile, I'm loving your descriptive technical terms... twizzily bits 😂
Can we just start of the video with a massive high five to the universe for the first video of 2024 with no rain lol
If they called it the R1290 no one would think the name is a bit of a mouthful, but somehow R12 Nine T is despite being the exact same mouthful.
Thr same old engine with modern electronics tagged on and a ridiculous instrument cluster that's out of place on a retro motorbike. Add the high price into the mix and forget about buying one of these and get a Japanese competitor which will be better and thousands of pounds cheaper.
Why so angry?
We all have a choice of what we buy.
Another quality review Kate enjoyed that lots.
Thanks so much! 😊
I hope bmw offer some hard saddlebags
Would be nice to have a review of a barebone BMW for once. It's always a fully blinged out model with packs that costs your shirt and more.
It's how the demos come 😊 because they want to showcase features you see. But I get you!
Just purchased one, pick up next week. Good review.
Thanks for this. NO FUEL GAUGE????
Like all bmw car's or bikes it's all the extras the only free things on any bmw's is the air my old bmw got a lot of looks of people the handling was not that good i will have to try a new on to compare to my old one but you do make it sound good kate
The video quality gets better and better each time!!! LOVE IT HERE FOR IT
Nice looking bike but 14000+ it’s out of the price range of loads of petrol , what dash need binoculars to see the smaller digits,if that’s what they now call a dash ,I’m really Father Christmas , the bike industry as gone nuts on pricing 😮 another good review 😊
No fuel gauge ? Just don’t get that. Great review btw. 👍
Awful bike and ride, far too expensive
Fake news 👎
I'm not too impressed with the style changes to this new version, been riding the older version since 2015 (owned three of them)
Ok 👏 super 👌😄 Kate
Was the Tesla looking for a SatNav guided charger or a safe place to self combust!?? BMW was saved by the British after WW2, the green called Oxford Green on cars is a copy almost of Racing Green. Heck our Royals are German too. LMAO
They've really dumbed down the styling of the R9T.... it could be any bike from any manufacturer if you ignore the drivetrain.
Another great review Kate, are you planning a review on the R12 cruiser as well?
Looks terrible. They modernised a modern retro, whats the point 🤷🏼♂️
Don’t buy, my advice go for the Speed Twin, had nowt but trouble with the R12 Nine T. Still being repaired or replaced?
running out of fuel 🤦 ... honda sh125i have this function at the display of the ~6.9liter but it starts to blink and at the petrol station i almost can read 5-6liter of refill ...so 900ml is left this is not excact calculation like our good old german VDO instruments !
shoould i spend more on asia-products or italo-sladge with asia cpu's ?
munich does the same like few other brands
look at airbus/boeing how to calculate each fuel-drop right (not ana of course 🙄) brit.airways , france , lufthansa/eurowings etc. ✌️☘️
Be tempted if they do a “Pure” version, I don’t need adjustable suspension, and would rather spec it up with a few key things that are important to me and save £1000’s
A bike that starts at £14k but needs best part of £1000 for things that most people want is just too much for what it is .
You paying a fortune for this bike but some clown 🤡 at BMW decided to not fit a fuel gauge how crazy great review.
Being a fellow female rider, I love your Vids. Now that you’ve ridden the R12 and the R129T, which did you like more?
Oh, I would find it sooooo difficult to choose. I'd flip a coin 🤣 and thank you! 🫶
I gotta laugh at all the commenters crying about the lack of a fuel gauge, perhaps these people should stick to public transportation.
