I’ve been on the fence for YEARS about getting an OTF. Never could get over the “more working parts = more likely to fail” hesitation. Then I heard about the microtech service personnel program a little while ago, so I started looking into the Ultratech a bit more. This video right here is what got me to hop off the fence and order one. Thank you, it arrives next week.
Damn now that was a review! I have a whole collection of Microtech Knives but had no idea they could stand up to that sort of abuse. My brother has the PD version of that knife and said he’s put it through car doors and cut aluminum with it no problem but always thought that was a tall tale until now. You sir earned a subscribe!
Wow,I’m absolutely blown away..I always thought OTFs were really cool but more of a gimmicky toy than a highly functional knife..you put this knife through things I wouldve only done with a fixed blade..It was crazy enough seeing it batoning through a 2x4 but then being shot too..now I understand why these knives are so expensive
Cool video! This is why they cost more than other knives. Just the hammering would've destroyed many other knives.... never mind shooting it. lol. Great shot btw.
I just bought one of these, I'm not a knife collector or anything, I actually plan on using it for everyday tasks that you would typically use a knife for. I'm happy to see that it looks like it will hold up.
Finally, a review that shows all the dang people that say Microtech knives are not built to handle any sort of abuse and should not be trusted with any other than personal protection. I REALLY like my Halo 5 tonto , Halo 6 hellhound, Conbat Trodon tanto, hellhound and my UTX85..... Excellent knives..
I know that MicroTech knives were tough, but I always just assumed (sorry Jason) that you had to be gentle with the OTF knives and that the could not take the rough stuff. I'm wrong. I held my breath when you drove the knife through the board like a nail! Unlike Michael Leon, I have no doubt that the video was genuine. I'm impressed with the knife and your testing. Shooting the blade was the icing on the cake! Thanks for taking the time to test, shoot, edit, and post!
I have always thought that knifes that open up like the knife you are reviewing had weak locking mechanisms that when used to try to pierce something a bit hard the locking set up would let go or break, but watching you pound this knife into a block of wood at the 4.30 min without the blade retracting tells me that these knifes can take some punishment without the locking mechanism failing. Rick you were blowing hard there for a while , I think XRing needs to whip you into shape with some more running in his next video. Cheers 🍻
I’ve always thought the same thing but never wanted to ask that question cause it seems shady lol. But yes I was very surprised.. no way that thing is gonna work after this and boom.. works perfect. Microtech and Deadlock are my dream OTFs
I'm convinced that the locking mechanism is strong enough but how about force exerted sideways with the blade out? I'd be curious how much of a beating it could take before failing.
@@appv12 I think he meant putting a sideways force on the knife while it's in the open position. Since the blades locking mechanism is sturdy enough to be driven downward as a nail, he's Wondering how much pressure it could handle being hit sideways or being used as a pry bar. If the knife can take what you did to it then for me it's gonna last so long that my great great great great great great great great grandchildren will be able to use it cause i only use my swiss army knife to cut open water bottle packs, boxes, and occasionally make featherings to start a fire. I might get the smallest model of the ultratech since I don't need all the extra size. Thank you so much for your review, not a second of the video was wasted on anything!
Kevin Laney lol Pvk is the biggest microtech dealer why would microtech follow them on Instagram if they sold “fake microtechs” sorry but that’s just not true lol
My dream knife right there. my budget allowed a lightning though lol. To me this variant is the best looking (by far) and the best blade/action in an OTF that's not a Deadlock.. but this also costs a fraction of what a Deadlock does. This is where its at. Dope video dude thank you very much!
Well Bossman you just convinced me to go and buy one. When doing the first responder program do you get a choice in color? I am a LEO and I am not crazy about the blue color
Dang brother, you were beating the crap out of that awesome knife!! I need to look into those, never had a microtech...yet! The bullet splitting was awesome, that's one sweet knife!
I want to be a pilot for my local Fire department in a few years, do you know how a someone would be able to go about and obtain this knife once you meet qualification requirements for this program?
Second time watching in a half hour. One day I will own a Microtech.. I always assumed they’d break if used to pry or “stab” and this amazed me. Then you shoot it… not even a chip or any damage. This is easily the coolest thing I’ve seen all week and I watched a video of a fucking UFO too.
The pain I felt watching this video. But damn, it’s good to know what they’re capable of at the cost of someone else’s knife! 😂 I’ve got three of my own, an ultra, an 85 and a 70. All of them are as bad ass as the next for their own reasons.
Man, I just reread my comment. And it is chock full of innuendo. Stuck, pulling, tugging, splitting from behind. The tip. Splitting wood. Screwdriver. Smack it. I’ve got problems

this is a great knife (i own the same one with a tanto blade but all blacked out) but to say the blade suffered no damage after being shot is a ridiculous claim, at the very least the edge is not going to be as sharp in the area hit. i also find it rather convenient that the footage cut out right before he could function test the knife for the last time, leading me to believe that some lead or copper jacket might have caused friction while operating the mechanism, therefore causing malfunctions that they probably would rather leave out of the video. not saying this is what happened, i believe this is a great knife and it is very strong, but i also understand how companies market a product to their consumers, and when a knife malfunctions even though totally reasonable in a lot of knife abuse scenarios, isn't a good look for brand image, especially when your knives are so expensive (relatively speaking).
