I think hidden gun should've be used itself as a counterable weapon, not with the sword like in Brotherhood and Revelations (basically no dual weapons). It's a missing opportunity to see new animation and counter kill mechanics.

Because firearms are more developed in Syndicate's time. It had Derringers and revolvers (as well as an anachronistic autoloading mag fed pistol, which is the Mars), unlike last AC games which only had flintlocks.

You have to reload in AC3-AC4 and it only gives you 2-4 shots, while a Hidden Gun maintains it's speed and can shoot all your bullets. And it doesn't give any suspecting vibe within the public's eye, cause it just look like a bracer when you covered it at the right time. Plus it can give you an advantage on close combat without making your enemy getting scared of you pulling out your gun on your holster.
And instead of reloading you just kill the rest of the enemies with other weapons? Did you forget about dodging? Should’ve dodged whole time until you were able to reload your pistols man. Waste of potential here
It's funny how almost every Assassin throughout history has utilized a pistol yet modern Assassins never seem to have one on hand.
