Yeah, that was a hell of a concert, I bought the video a long time ago. It was so psychedelic, especially since Morrison was on acid. I don't know how he maintained a remembered lyrics. It brought the best of the Doors. It was bizzar and mesmerizing like I've never seen before. I could just watch it over and over!

I really like what Ray Manzarek says at the end. It was fun ....his youth. Too many people take all this way too seriously...JIm wasn't a sourpuss and gloomy ....he was a fun interesting guy. This was a great band...wish I could have seen them live with Jim. Records will have to suffice and just have to take the inspiration from their message....stay open to possibilities ....drugs not necessary...just like Bruce Lee said too ..water can flow or it can crash ...be water my friend....

He passed on shortly after this due to bile duct cancer, you can tell he was kind of jaundiced but still was upbeat and positive. That's what's great about good music. The artists don't live forever but the music does.

Rays words at the end brought tears to my eyes...i'm 38 years old you know. I discovered the band when i was 13 and a couple years later i realized that i would never have the chance to see them performing live on stage...Years later a friend of mine called me on the phone and told me that the Doors will play live in Athens!!! It was the year 2004 and one of the best nights of my life!! Please excuse my English...

    I recall it well.
We had been setting up for the Concert approx. 6 days Prior.
I believe at the Time it was the Largest Audio system ever put together for a Live performance at that time .
Each side of the Drum river was like 20 or 25
Amps setup and even had onstage monitors
    and mixing boards etc.
We d gone thru sound checks daily so as to try and be flawless as the entire show was being filmed with 5 seperate 35 mm Panvision sound Movie Cameras , cutting edge at the time.
Alot of UCLA Film School friends of Jim and Ray were brought in to make the film .
One guy I met was named Harrison Ford
    on Camera #3 .
Another, a kind of strange guy advising was named Frances Ford Copala .
It was a very big deal in 1968 LOS ANGELES .
All radio stations in LA THAT DAY were playing non stop doors and TV interviews
The Audience was said to contain every Rock Star in LA . Along with every major male movie star , all wanted to be somehow have the Morrison Mystique rub off on them somehow , have their Photo or Image next to Jim the most handsome man in the world at that time .
    Even at Alta Cieniga
The press were thick and When I let Mick Jagger in the front door It was intense ..
Mick in his get up was not prepared for what he got when he saw a real rock star as he stood in the very small and cheap motel room was Jim Morrison standing pissing inthe Toilet as he spoke out the 2nd floor widow to a few girls on the sidewalk below .
Ignoring Mick Jim picked up his book and resumed reading.
    Babe Hill said to Jim
Mick stopped by to wish you well tonight
Jim High on Acid looked over and said oh cool thanks man .
Mick looked to see what Jim was reading.
    THE WILL TO POWER
    BY F. NIETZSCHE
    LSYCHOLOGY IF XROWDS ANDAYDUANCE
    MANIPULATION.
    WOW, THATS HEAVY...
JIM IFNORED MICK AND JUST THEN THE HAUR AND MAKEUP CHICK SHOWED UP
and Jim started to get ready
He stripped naked and put on his leathers and black blouse .
The chick hooked his silver cross , brushed his hair couple time and split.
    He is Jim Morrison
I mean what are you going to do ???
    He is perfect.
They poured a few whiskies but Jim was not in a Happy mood .
    THANX to Pam.
    Already on a bummer
Jim refused the Limo and he and Babe split in the Mustang go a few blocks to the show. Myself and Vince left in his car to follow the as an in case team .
It all ended ok as Steppenwolf was playing and bout 45 mins to go. Jim took his other Tab of Purple Qwsley sent over by means of the Grateful Dead family and began smokin this excellent Thai Weed and passed joints for 20 mins none stop.
The band arrived andJohn started up as usual and put Jim on more of a Bummer saying thatPam was sitting in the front Row with Mick Jagger who's just been at the room an hour ago.
Jim had a look on his face like he wanted to kill some body , asked me if I had any shrooms and I didn't.
    I'd already taken them myself.
With the weight of Hollywood Bowl concert all eyes on him
Under 2 hits of very good LD Thai Stick the press radio stations
20,000 fans his old lady being with Mick Jagger all of it ,
Jim stepped up onto that stage 24 yrs old
The Biggest Rock Star on the planet ....
I've often what he must have thought at that moment as he stood there in the Dark as that 100 thousand candle light sot hit him and the announcer said From Los Angeles Calif , Ladies and Gentleman
    The DOORS .
UNBELIEVABLE REALLY THE CROWD ON ITS FEET SCREAMING AND YELLING HIS NAME
    JIM HIM JIM JIM

Well done compilation footage and pics.... the shirtless one is very rare.... Morrison was in his absolute prime here. Messed up or not his singing was spot on at the show... jagger was at this show b/c Morrison was replacing him as the top dangerous lead in rock.... at this point he could’ve done anything in multimedia, star in a movie, direct, stage act, write etc... he looked very healthy a good 10 lbs heavier, filled out and strong vs the lean Venice London fog days.... it would all be over less then a year away in spring Miami. Jagger was lucky Miami happened b/c he was being eclipsed, hence jaggers reboot of image and songwriting in ‘69... always remember the doors dominated 68, the most dangerous year of the decade. The center of the center in the cultural and music AOR transition. Mt Rushmore stuff here in rock.

I liked to record as a kid, I'm old, lol, saw the Doors in 68, they came to our little town, six months before the Hollywood Bowl show.

I remember my trip to LA and walking up to the Hollywood Bowl one morning from my bed and breakfast on N. Sierra Bonita and Hollywood... I just walked in and wandered around and took some pictures and then was told it was off limits to the public by the staff... they let me stay though to take some pictures.
I then went to the gift shop and met a beautiful girl from Conneticut...
I wish the Doors would have been around longer...

All the good stuff dissipates, Life 101, right J/M? All glory fades, savor my friend savoooor. The Hollywood Bowl is legendary for many reason to us locals. Growing up we'd go to the 'Summer Concert Series' during the late Fifties and Sixties, my Pep's dug that sort of thing. Later before we had jobs and doe, we'd sneak in over the hill in back. How about a little something for the effort? Birth of a Nation sucked but Old man Griffith gave L.A. one hell of a park..Easter Sunday we would go to the 'Sunrise Service' Now I go the a few times a year for kool concerts, it's truly halod ground in my sojourn. As Hope would say, "Thanks for the Memories!"
