I was born and lived in london my whole life but I do that if a creepy man approached me 😂 - If possible, tell a guy friend even if they’re not in the same country so that he can call your phone and pretend you need to leave immediately like an emergency I hope you never experience it again but just incase, i hope this helps🥺🤍

So sorry this happened to you, but you have to be very street-smart when alone in a big US city like Chicago(I lived in several big cities, including Chicago). It is NOT like Korea. There are a lot of people who are "weird", even dangerous roaming around. They could be mentally unstable/ill, high on drugs or just looking for an easy target to criminalize. Your instinct was right when you instantly felt uncomfortable and you should not even let a conversation to get started. There are different ways of doing this in a way that is not rude, but you should absolutely not give out ANY personal information including your name or even your social media info, as it is not very hard for people to find you that way if they really wanted to.
That guy sounds so creepy, even though the US is more open to physical touch it is NOT acceptable to try to hug a stranger. I have a feeling that guy might have been on some harder drugs, which sadly is common to see especially in big cities in the US. When I travel if a man approaches me like that I always say I'm traveling with my dad, brother, or boyfriend. I've also acted like I don't understand or speak the language many times. But sometimes they're so persistent you get scared, that guy knew he was making you uncomfortable and wanted to scare you into doing what he wanted. Once when I was in another country I was walking on an empty street and a guy approached me and just kept going even after I said no, no, no to the point I started crying and he started cursing at me calling me a crazy b*tch, etc. it was horrible.
